DIY Room decorating tips and restrictions?

If there is a thread with this information, please help me find it.

If I want to create my own "In-Room Celebration", what do I need to know about what is or is not allowed. Are there things that cannot be used to hang decorations/paper signs/etc on the windows or walls (I'm thinking tape or sticky putty)? What would be the best things to use to hang such things. I would have wrapped gifts, paper confetti, a home-made birthday sign, and printed Mickey footprints to leave on the floor.

Also, I thought I saw somewhere that it is possible to ask a CM (I'm assuming someone at the resort lobby) to help do the setting up of the gifts and decorations. Is this true? Would there be restrictions on what I could ask them to do, provided I were to have everything organized in a bag/box to pass them? Also, what would be an appropriate tip to offer to do such a service?

I'm trying to surprise my boys by letting them believe Mickey himself left these surprises in the room, but if I disappear from the kids and DH for a while, my older son may become suspicious. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this, having never stayed onsite before, and thinking if a CM could help out, it would be awesome. Otherwise I will most likely have DH take the kids to the resort arcade for a little bit and I will have an excuse to take care of "something."

I doubt if you would be able to get a CM to do your decorating for you.

Please don't expect a CM or housekeeper to decorate the room. They have their own work to do everyday. You might have read about something like the Disney Florist which will arrange in room celebrations, but it is something you have to pay for.

We are staying at POR if that makes a difference. Not sure if in the mansions or alligator bayou section yet.

I do recall hearing about no tape. So, what could be used instead?

Oh, it's not something I would EXPECT a CM to do. Just I thought I had read somewhere about a CM helping do something that was related to setting up gifts or decorations of some sort. But since I can't remember where I saw that, or in what context I even thought this was a possibility, I asked here to see if anyone knew.

What if you and DH split the decorating duties? He takes them to the arcade for a little while, you meet up with them and stay for a while, then maybe go get a bite to eat. Then DH "has to check in with work and will be back in a few minutes" so you go to the gift shop or explore the grounds until he finishes up. That way, neither one of you are away from the kids for long. Might be easier to pull off that way.

I would stay behind...make up some kind of an excuse, and let Dad take the kids to the park. Then you can decorate quickly and join them.
Usually, when you see that a CM has done something like this, it's through Disney Florist or such. And you pay for that. I doubt you'll be able to have a regular CM decorate for you. You can ask at the front desk but I wouldn't count on it.

As far as what you can do??? No tape. I would bring painters tape and use that...it doesn't harm the walls or leave a residue. You could order balloons from Disney in addition to your own decorations.

It is actually pretty easy to find; just google it. It is on the disney website. The policy came out a few years ago.

You can still decorate inside.

Also, you will see decorations. It is like posting a speed limit and then people still exceed it. There are only so many police to stop the. Few speeders they can catch.

People will be told not to put decorations on doors at the deluxes and they still push the envelope. The staff does not have the time to take them down. They have other tasks to do.

I tried to google this on the disney website but couldn't find it. I did ask the WDW Mom's Panel and this is the reply I received:

"Thanks for writing the panel. I have seen doors and windows decorated at all resorts, from value right through deluxe. It's a great way for people to express their love of Disney in a creative way. Be sure to remove everything you put up."

I have to tell you I have never seen more incorrect information than the Mom's panel. Some of the answers sound like they have never even been to Disney before.!

Why hang things? A couple of balloons (unless you are at AKL or AKV - no balloons permitted). A stuffed animal. A new Tshirt. Sing the song. Birthday button. And head out to the parks.

I've seen pictures where the rooms are decorated by extending string, say between the light sconces and attaching decorations to the string. Or thread across curtains, you can put string just about anywhere and hang pictures, signs, balloons, stuffed animals, etc

Thanks for your replies. However if you read my request above you will see I am looking for a reference about DELUXE resorts, not the DVC. Does anyone have a source for the deluxe resorts? A link to an official policy or official response would be appreciated, not just being told to google it, or a bus driver said it, etc.

I am thinking of doing something in Oct and I am trying to find out if it's allowed. I will probably just end up calling.

How about clothespins? Clip to the curtains. Or Command hooks. Use magnets to attach to the doors.
