Came back from Florida 2 weeks ago & desperate to go again. We've been a few times now & feel confident enough to book things independently rather than get a package deal but I need to make sure this is going to be a cheaper option - if it is then I might be able to persuade DH to go again next year rather than wait until 2005.

Can anyone recommend good flights (we've only ever been with Virgin), reliable car hire (only ever used Dollar) and any good house rental companies (or anyone you know that you would happily recommend). We would be looking at 3 weeks starting 13th August 2004 but not sure yet whether we would have 3 full weeks in Orlando or 2 in Orlando & 1 at St. Pete's. There will be 6 of us - 4 adults & 2 kids.

We've been twice and went independently both times. I am also now planning our third visit for next Easter.

We prefer to do our own thing, so don't really go for packages. However, when looking what was available for next Easter, we found that Travel City Direct were much more expensive than going independently.

Try Expedia for flights. The scheduled flights aren't always direct, but can work out much cheaper. We got flights for £420 each incl tax with US Airways via Philadelphia.

We use Alamo for car hire - if you get the Brit's Guide mentioned on these boards, there is a special rate available.

We have a contact who we rent villas from. If you send me a PM I can let you have her details. She has some new townhouses at Emerald Island (near Splendid China) for £350 per week.

Hiya. Try http://www.crescentvillas.com - we stayed there at easter and it was excellent (really close, too) and, although they were booked up for our next trip at xmas, they recommended us to some friends on same development who did us a great deal. For flights we have found teletext at least as good as the web, if a bit slower to browse! It's certainly better d.i.y, ...even if you don't save masses (we did at easter) you know where you are going!
