DD10 is into bath bombs lately and I think she would really love some with a little 'surprise' inside. I am not finding any with great reviews so I was wondering if anyone has made their own (without one of the kits) and could give me any pointers/advice.

Yes, I've made them with great success. Hints:

- You can find plenty of recipes on Pinterest.
- Your first batch will seem quite expensive, but that's really because the materials are enough to make MANY bath bombs; for example, when you buy fragrance, it's going to seem expensive at $6-10, but it's probably enough for two years' worth of craftiness.
- Success seems to be largely dependent upon the mold used to shape the bath bomb. I have a stainless steel sphere mold, which I bought from Amazon.
- The citric acid isn't easy to find locally, so I order it from Amazon too.
- You can easily tuck a small plastic something inside the bomb. Consider, too, pressing a small icing flower (purchase at AC Moore) into the mold before you pack in the baking soda /etc. mixture. But remember that anything you put into the bath bomb must either go down your drain or must be removed physically from the tub; for example, I would not use glitter.
- Consider buying Crayola colorful bath tablets. You can tuck them inside the bath bomb, and then the water will turn a pretty color. Yellow is a poor choice; feels like you're sitting in pee.
- Pack your bomb TIGHTLY ... then knock gently on one side of the mold and gently /slowly twist it off ... flip the bomb over into your left hand and gently /slowly twist off the second half of the mold with your right.
-Set your completed bombs out on wax paper for several days so they can dry -- then you can move them to a pretty jar or tray in the bathroom. I never bother to wrap them, and they don't seem to suffer from my lack of attention. If I were going to transport them /gift them to people, I'd wrap them in some way.

1 cup of baking soda
1/4 cup of Epsolm salt
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup cornstarch
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
1 table spoon of water
essential oils (4-8 drops)

mix dry ingredients, mix wet ingredients separately . Add wet ingredients to dry and mix thoroughly. Add food coloring if you want to. Press into molds tightly. Do not have sit in molds too long. I am having trouble with mine cracking and trying to resolve that by wrapping soon after.
