If I have posted this in the wrong area please move it to the correct area.

We went last week. I have very mixed feelings about it. First of all it is very nice to beable to see and touch the horses before the show., Their paddocks are in the front of the building and there are there for you to see.

When you go in you are herded into a large room full of tables for a pre-show. Much better than other horse shows in the area. Of course there are bars around for you to purchase drinks from. the pre-show is great. a man comes out on a horse and rides among the tables. this horse even climbs stairs to the balcony and comes back down. If you know anything about horses, they just don't do that.

Then you are taken into the arena. Then the show starts. I noticed when we sat down there were place settings but no silverware. Now they start to serve food and still no silver. then I find out there will not be any silver. You drink your soup, they serve a small whole chicken, a biscuit,a piece of pork, a large chunk of potato and corn on the cob. I really wish I had known before we went, as I had a nice pair of pants on and shirt and after eating chicken, etc with my fingers I had to watch there I put my hands. Now they did come through after desert, apple turnover, and give you hot towels to wipe your hands.
1/2 of the show was alright but then they had pig races, ostrich races, no audience, just the people performing and some other lame stuff. It seems to me they ran out of things to do and used this stuff to fill in with.

I asked if they did have silverware you could use if you did not like eating with your fingers and the answer was no. You can bring your own. I feel there should have been some mention in the brochure about this. I really don't know if I would spend the money and go back or not.

I am so sad to hear you didn't like the Dixie Stampede. Being from E. Tenn, I love attending the Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge. I did know that you didn't get silverware ahead of time, and I am sorry you were not aware of that as that does turn people off.

We loved the show, even the little races and goofy things at the end, but the show and dinner isn't for everyone.

Atleast you can say you tried it - and now you know that it is not something you would like to do again (atleast until they start to offer silverware).

Every website or brochure I've seen for Dixie Stampede has always mentioned that it's an "eat with your hands" type of place. Maybe it was in the small print and you missed it?

I've gone with various groups of people and have always requested (and received) plastic utensils with no problem. I think that they figure part of the "fun" is the picnic-type atmosphere of eating with your hands. But they'll give you utensils if you ask. They'll also load you up on napkins if you need them.

As an FYI ... this same "no silverware" thing is true at Medieval Times and Arabian Nights too.

:earsboy:

I have eaten at Arabian Nights and had silverware and did not have to ask for it.

One thing I did forget to mention was, how in-expensive the gift shop was. I could not believe the prices. They were truly affordable to buy stuff for you kids.

They had dolls there , that I know anywhere else would have been 50 or 60 dollars and they were betwee 12.00 and 20.00. I wanted to buy one so bad, but have no little girls to buy for.

I asked about silverware and was told no, they did not have any to give.

I would go back to Arabian Nights as I feel their horse preformance's were better than at Dixie Stampede.

I have not been to the Dixie Stampede in Orlando, but have gone in Myrtle Beach. I really liked it. I definitely like it better than the Spirit of Aloha luau at the Polynesian. I believe Dixie Stampede is around $35 for adults. The luau and other Disney dinner shows are $50. If you ask me, Dolly has Walt beat on this one. Dixie Stampede is a much better value, has great food and is a much better show. I would go again.

For adults it is $43.99
children 4-11 $18.99

I also forgot to mention Unlimited soda, water, ice tea.

WDSearcher mention " Every website or brochure I've seen for Dixie Stampede has always mentioned that it's an "eat with your hands" type of place"

I just went to their website, figuring I had been blind and did not see it mentioned about no silverware. I went into everyarea of the website and no where is it mentioned you eat with your fingers. If you could find it please let me know.

Thanks for this INFO,,because we are planning on going over Christmas,,but NOT WITHOUT A FORK (LOL)... did they say you could bring your own in???

Tink

When I found out there was no silverware, I was a little put off and wished I brought my own. You really don't need it though. The food is all made with eating with your hands in mind. I was most skeptical about slurping soup, but it's really thick and quite easy to drink out of the little crock its in.

I thought Dixi Stampede was a blast, and I recommend it to anyone.. I went to the one in Myrtle Beach... The food is great, the show was great, and eating with your hands was fun... there are napkins, just wipe your hands.. Lighten up and enjoy I say, I would love to go back there... I would love to go to Medival times when I am in Orlando, but time just does not allow it..

I've been to Dixie Stampeede twice and I have to say it was a lot of fun. It did get a little silly at the end, but it's still a lot of fun (and I'm usually the type that thinks shows like this, especially when they arn't done by Disney, are pretty corny). I would definatly recommend it.

Sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers are made to eat with your hands. Greasy chicken, potato wedges, piece of pork are not food you eat with your hands. If it had been fried chicken it would not have been that bad. Yes the soup was alright, but the soup we had was not thick. It was very thin.

" there are napkins, just wipe your hands.. " Yes there were two paper napkins and as everyone knows with gressy chicken they stick to your hand and fingers when you try to use them.

Now that I go back and check, it wasn't from the Dixie Stampede website that I got that info ... I was headed to the one in Branson, and had read the "no silverware" disclaimer on www.branson4kids.com. And also in a couple of on-line reviews of the dinner and show that I read prior to making reservations. Sorry for the mistake!

We went to the one in Myrtle Beach and loved it. I don't think dh would go back though as he was selected to do the "pitching" LOL

(I don't want to elaborate and spoil it for the next victim.........err I mean participant!)

Sorry you felt this way about Dixie Stampede. As far as dinner shows go, we have gone to Medieval Times, Arabian Nights, Hoop De Do Revue and Dixie Stampede and we rank DS as our favorite! Both the food and the show were terrific and the pre-show was hands down the best of the bunch.

Our chicken was not greasy, the potato wedge was akin to picking up a large french fry and the pork was delicious. Our soup was thick, creamy and delicious (and I'm a soup junkie, so I'm not easily satisfied!) Yes, there were only two napkins but in each section where they had salt, pepper, lemon juice, sugar, etc. they also had any number of wetnaps that you could clean your hands with. I was quite surprised to find that I really didn't need to ask for anything, it was all right there on the table. Our drinking glasses were never empty, the servers were excellent.

I haven't re-visited the DS website, but I know that I was aware in advance that there would be no utensils. I did find this out somewhere on the internet.

I have yet to see anyone eat a chicken leg or wing with a fork, but I suppose there are those who do. If I'm dining in an arena with a dozen horses kicking around in the dirt I'm not going to worry too much about a little grease on my fingers.

Dixie Stampede is my favorite of the 'adventure' dinner shows and the piggie and ostrich races are part of what makes it unique. How often in your life do you get to watch women riding an ostrich? In my area, that's not a real common occurance! :teeth:

Thumbs up for Dixie Stampede, and be sure to bring a sweater because it can get a tad chilly in there.

I will agree the waiter service was excellent and our drinks were never empty. I guess I am one who is different. I do eat my chicken legs and thighs with a fork and knife, especially if I am out.

I am use to being around horses doing more than just kicking up dirt. My daughter owns two horse ranches, but that does not mean I have to eat with my fingers. If I am paying that much to eat then I would like to have silverware. If they choose to serve this way alright, but at least let people know or have the choice of silverware or no silverware. I know if my mother-in-law had went and found out she had to eat with fingers she would not have eaten at all.

Concerning the ostrich races, pig races, I can go to a county fair and see that, I paid to go see a horse show and and not pigs running around a fence woman riding an orstrich.

I have also been to the other shows and I personally would put this to the bottom of the list. I love horses and I came to see horses and not other animals. I can go to a zoo or AK to see other animals.

I also feel the the grounds at Dixie Stampede are great and beautiful. I was very impressed with the initial presentation when we arrived. Having been to the others. I also liked the pre-show area as the other make you feel as if you are being herded into an area just to buy drinks. Being able to see and touch the horses was great.
