my mom's manicurist --- who is also a friend -- told my mom an incredible story today.
the other day, she went home early because her last two appointments cancelled.
she lives on a dead-end street. there are only four houses on the street. none of her neighbors were home.
when she got home she noticed a strange car on the street. at first she didnt' pay attention, but then she got curious. she walked over to the car.
the engine was running, and there was a hose leading from the exhaust back into the car. a young man was sitting on the back seat.
she made him turn off the engine and tell her who he was. he lives around the corner from her. she called his father and told him what was going on. the young man was distraught because he was going to court the next morning to be sentenced for theft.
she told the young man that she usually doesn't get home this early and he said "I know." as if to say he chose that time and place because he knew he'd be alone.
