Divine meal at Victoria & Alberts on 12-13-13.
We celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary (when did we get so old???) so we splurged on the Queen Victoria Room and its 10-course tasting menu, plus we added shaved white truffles, Japanese Waguyu beef and a bottle of Italian Barbaresco wine. (We are fans of Barbaresco since our trip to the area in Northern Italy in 2012. We thoroughly enjoyed the red wine with all the tastings.)
The room was lovely with subtle lighting, and just four tables. Sharon and Chris were our servers, and they were awesome! Lets get to the food:
The breads we were offered included a wonderful French baguette roll, a black truffle brioche with black truffle butter, and a multi-grain bread. The black truffle brioche with the black truffle butter was my favorite so good!
1. Amuse-Bouche Maine Lobster Jar with Siberian Osetra Caviar. Wow! What a start!
2. Octopus A La Plancha with Black Garlic Aioli. I was a little hesitant about this course, but it was wonderful. If I had not known, I would have never guessed that the small, white oval slices were octopus.
3. Hot Smoked Niman Ranch Lamb with Fuji Apple and Curry Dressing. Outstanding!
4. Nantucket Scallops in a Salt Bowl. Succulent, best Ive ever had.
5. Poached Chicken Egg and Sausage. The white truffles went really well with this dish. Delicious!
6. Colorado Bison with Caraway Seed Vinaigrette. Very nice.
7. Australian Koby-Style Beef with Potato Sphere & Japanese Waguyu Beef. As mentioned above, the Waguyu beef was an additional charge. Awesome! Both were outstanding however, the Waguyu beef was the best Ive ever had.
8. Selection of Cheeses with Accompaniments. Four wonderful cheeses.
9. Hawaiian Kona Chocolate Soufflé. Did not disappoint perfect and luscious!
10. For DH, Apple Quark Panna Cotta. He said it was very good.
For me, Peruvian Chocolate Timbale with Roasted White Chocolate Gelato. Yummy!
I finished the last of the wine as DH had an after-dinner Grand Marnier while we polished off the chocolates that were brought at end the meal. The atmosphere, the service and the food were divine an evening in dining paradise! They sent us off with a custom menu, a note wishing us Happy Anniversary, a loaf of bread and a long-stemmed rose for me. This was a once in a lifetime meal that we will never forget. We were not sorry we splurged!
