Dive schools in The Keys

DH did an introcutory scuba session on our recent trip to Vero Beach and is now keen to do more (well, it would make a change from fishing! ).

Has anyone here any experience of hotels with/near dive schools (preferably in The Keys) where DH could take lessons and go out on novice dives?

I'm sure Virgin used to offer a kind of dive package that included instruction, etc, but I couldn't find it in their current brochure.

When we went to The Keys in 1988 we went snorkelling on the John Pennekamp Reef in Key Largo. This is the only living Coral reef in the continental United States. We had a fantastic time.

I have looked at their website and they do scuba tours - might be worth getting in touch and see if they can do something for your husband and recommend a nearby hotel etc.

DH is actually staying one night in Key Largo next month on his way down to his Keys fishing trip, so I'll definitely suggest he looks into it when he's there - although as the 3 fishing buddies will be zoned in on starting their fishing trip , I won't be completely surprised if the interest in scuba diving slips his mind while he's there!

I will second the John Pennekamp Reef it was absolutely brilliant and they do allsorts of different things to keep you occupied while your partner is diving,i would reccomend the Glass Bottom Boat ride it was alovely couple of hours relaxing, also when you come out of the National Park on the other side of the road there is a lovely diner for a meal (my DH's Fave of the whole holiday) when i remeber the name of it i will let you know it is a good meal for a good price.
