"Diva" Trip - "Cliff Notes" p.236 OLD THREAD!

Okay, I've got to hit the roads again, but please, please, please everyone take a look at the latest revision I posted on the previous page based on some of the comments posted so far, and see if that works better.

I'm not looking to plan the entire trip myself, LOL, so the more input the better. Obviously we cannot please everyone, and not everyone will be there the same amount of time, but we can throw ideas around until we find what works for the majority.

Also, I REALLY think we need a group photo op on Sunday. I know for some of you it's a pain in the butt to be pulled away from what you're doing to pose for a photo, but to me that's sort of the point of these group trips. I love the group photos the most, so I don't think one a day is too much to ask. :confused3 But tell me if I'm wrong.

Later!!!

Jess, I wasn't ignoring your post earlier about the group photo location for Sunday, I just don't know what "ROA with PLOTSI" means. :lmao:

ROA is rivers of America, but what is the other?? Something about Tom Sawyer's Island?

:rotfl: You got it - I was just using the entire current name for Tom Sawyer's Island, with the whole "Pirates Lair" part added to it.

So far the schedule looks good to me. :thumbsup2 I've already put my recommendation in for the character meal, lol. And I am always game for any group photos.

OKay, here is a quick revision based on what was posted by Linda, Sarah, Mel, etc.

I think we can all agree Thursday is pretty much set. After all, with various arrival times, and the Meet and Greet, there's not much wiggle room there. So that's one day set. :thumbsup2

Thursday, Feb. 23:
Arrivals at various times throughout the day.
Group lunch at new Paradise Garden restaurant area in DCA
Meet and Greet in the evening

Friday, Feb. 24:
Group photo at Princess Fantasy Faire in the a.m.
Lunch: Big Thunder Ranch BBQ
Dinner: Cafe Orleans (if we're still full from the BBQ, we can always share a sandwich, get soup, snack on pomme frites, or just get beignets. Lots of options to choose from)
Fantasmic Dessert Seating

Saturday, Feb. 25:
Group photo in the early a.m. - location TBD
Scavenger hunt in DL 9 a.m.-noon (times approximate)
Lunch: Hungry Bear after scavenger hunt
Dinner: Napa Rose/Jazz Kitchen (each person signs up for which ever one they prefer)

Sunday, Feb. 26:
Breakfast: Character meal (which one TBD)
Group photo either after breakfast or before lunch??
Lunch: Carnation Cafe
Dinner: Suggestions? Maybe everyone on their own?? (keep in mind many will have gone home by this point, so maybe the few who are left can meet up at a counter service spot that won't require reservations)
Trader Sam's after dinner?

Monday, Feb. 27:
Last official day
Breakfast: Perhaps those still in the parks can plan to meet at Riverbelle Terrace this morning?

It all sounds good to me but that's probably because I'm hungry right now. ;)
I will probably have a meal at Pacific Wharf while we're there, maybe Saturday night. I love their chicken apple salad in sour dough bread bowl. :)

Today was my Friday and I'm off until Tuesday. :goodvibes

Monday is Josh and my 14th anniversary.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend.

Steph

The funny thing is, I've been to Napa Lounge, Cove Bar, and Trader Sam's......and I don't drink!! :rotfl2:

I have been to all three as well, but I have enjoyed numerous alcoholic concoctions.

I didn't know what it meant either Beth. But that area would be a new place for us to try. Jill would probably know the best spot as every time I see her at work she seems to be around the ROA!:thumbsup2

Oh Steph, have a wonderful long weekend and Happy Anniversary!:lovestruc It seems like you were celebrating your 13th just a few months ago. Time flies.

I love the schedule. Every year we start with a base and it gets tweaked as the trip draws near. I hope you are staying cool out there Beth. We are gearing up for 100 degrees this weekend and I am only 75 minutes from DL!

Ah, got it.

I love Pacific Wharf! We could always add that to Sunday for dinner. We don't really have anything there, and a counter service would be easiest. No need for sign-ups. Just a thought.

Enjoy your long weekend! I know you will. :goodvibes And have a very, very happy anniversary with Josh!!

Yeah, maybe Jill can suggest something. I don't really care where it's at, I just think one group photo a day would be a nice thing to shoot for. It's not that hard and doesn't take that much time. And ROA would be someplace new for us. OR maybe even somewhere in DCA. Either way, I'm fine with it. :goodvibes

And yes, we have to start with a base and then tweak it as needed, which is why I make sure to put up there "subject to change". LOL I just figure we have to start someplace eventually so might as well get the ball rolling. ;)

As for weather......ugh, today wasn't too bad, but by next week we are going to have temps ranging from 106 to 111. :scared1:

You know a few of us did a group shot on the stairway in the Court of Angels.....it's beautiful back there & I think that would make a great place for the entire group!!!! Maybe we could arrange for a photopass photographer to come do our picture!

Another thought would be in the WoC standing area, down by the water with Paradise Pier in the background.

/
The two years I have been there we did a Disney Visa group shot in DCA park on Sunday. I would like that to be put in the schedule for one of the days if possible please. I believe it is open an hour after DCA park opening? Maybe someone who goes more frequently can confirm that for me.

The food is looking good!

SarahMay

Not yet.:sad1: I'm feeling ok, bruised and sore.
Still not there?? How annoying.

I'm glad you are ok, minus the bruising and soreness. Falls are so scary! Last time I fell was when I slipped on an icy sidewalk last winter. It's not fun.

I personally love the Court of Angels stairway. I just figured it would be too small for us all. :confused3 But if there's a way to make it work, then I'd be open to that.
The WoC area might just be easier......maybe.

I remember that, Sarah. I was there for one of those!! Do they still do it? If so, is it still with characters? If they do, I wonder if they could fit in a larger group.... That would be fun.

Hi girls!

I think the meal set-ups look good :thumbsup2 Especially the BBQ. I havent been to that one yet and it looks awesome! I am most likely getting there on Thursday and leaving Sunday so I won't participate in the meals on those days...not counting the M&G. But I am game for all the others.

Edited to add...I'd like to do the character bfast. However, depending on my flight, I don't know if I can make it. It is a wait and see sort of thing.

They were still doing it when I was there in December/January but I am horrible at remembering times. I just checked and it starts 30 minutes after park opening and is open for 90 minutes.

We just got our free 5 X 7 with the Disney Visa two weeks ago at DCA. It is a pretty closed in tight area. I would say no more than 10 people would fit. But you never know - we could ask about it ahead of time. We had Chip & Dale in the cutest striped ties and fidora type hats. It's a cute pic of Bree & I!:)

Good night ladies. Tomorrow is Friday!:yay:

Lately I keep getting Pluto but have had Goofy and Chip and Dale in the past.

Night all

Hi Everyone!
I have been skimming along as I can, and I am a go with the flow person. It all sounds wonderful. I won't be bringing a friend this year, because it really cramped my style of hanging out with all of you! Love her and everything, but just sayin...it does effect the spirit of the trip a bit for me.

It is supposed to warm up a bit tomorrow and I am glad as I have promised the boys a trip to Wild Waves. I am not that excited as my old aunt flo has been visiting for about 30 days now. Yes, the old bat even went to Yellowstone with me! Not sure what that is all about but it is a dang drag!

Just found out that I get to go back to DL this year. I am so excited, as I thought it would be a long time before I was there again. My cousin and her family are doing a road trip and ending at DL. When I said I should fly down and ride home with them, they totally took me up on it! Anyhow, Nathan and I are flying down on miles. I have an annual pass, and will just have to buy a ticket for Nate. I do have to get a hotel room, but I have one free night and then have booked two free nights at HOJO. The rooms are expensive right now! Since it is just Nate and I, I would love to get the costs down if any of you Moms are thinking of getting a short 3 night trip in, I would be willing to share! Well, heck I guess it doesn't have to be a Mom, just someone that can tolerate a kid who wakes up bright eyed and bushy tailed at about 6 AM. Just PM me if you are interested! July 23rd to July 26th.

Other big news is that Hubby and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary in Vegas! We will be there for 5 nights and so I should hopefully have time to meet up with some of the Vegas Divas this time again! That is Aug 29th to Sep 3rd. I would like to go to Dicks this trip, since I have never been.

All right ladies, I am falling asleep as I type so good night!
Tracey

Hi Tracey! It's Glenn's and my 10 year anniversary this year too. We will be in WDW and on the DCL in November about a month and a half before the anniversary so we are just counting that as our trip. I was hoping to get to go to Paris, but no go. Oh well, maybe someday!

Later,
SarahMay

P.S. I understand about the style cramping. Been there, done that.

Hi Sarah!
Congratulations on your 10 years! I would settle for WDW:) My oldest is going to Paris this Spring with Band. I thought I might go along, but really, the trip they are taking is not the trip I would take anyhow. But I am officially going to start planning our family trip to DW again. Everyone has committed that that will be our next destination. So I am not booking any worldmark reservations for next summer. If we don't go to DW in June then we will go camping and whatnot locally, while we save our points and our money.

PS I like the idea of a Rivers of America picture, or court of angels. Also I love how the pics turn out in front of Mickey Wheel.

New hotel dilemna: I can get Radisson in buena park for $80 a night instead of $120 for HOJO. It is two nights so would be an $80 savings. They have a dedicated shuttle, free breakfast and manager reception in evening (which I would likely miss), also a suite with two TV's. What would you do??

Good morning, ladies!! :)

I haven't been either, and I'm eager to try it. This trip is going to include lots of new meals for me. I'm excited!! lol

Aw, that sounds cute of you and Bree. Unfortunately, that does sound a bit too cramped for a large group photo. Hmmm.
Maybe we could just do Sunday's group photo in front of the Mickey Wheel. We have never done one in DCA and I like that area. :confused3
Then after that who ever wants to go over and do a smaller Disney Visa photo can do so.
How does that sound??

So we'd have the big group pics like this:
Thursday's group photo at the Meet and Greet
Friday's group photo at PFF
Saturday's group photo.....where? In front of the castle again? Keep with tradition? Or go over to ROA for something new??
Sunday's group photo in front of the Mickey Wheel (plus an optional smaller photo at the Disney Visa area)

What say you all??

Yay!! How fun! Dicks is a blast. But be prepared to be picked on. LOL And make sure to get a hat. :thumbsup2
By the way, Aunt Flo needs to take a hike already! What's up with the 30 day visit?? Yikes.

Happy Friday, all! Even if its my Tuesday, lol. I'm off to work so catch ya'll later :wave2:
Have a good day at work!

Are you talking about this place??
http://www.radisson.com/buena-park-hotel-ca-90620/cabuena

If so, I've stayed there a couple times and loved it!! That used to be our go to place when we first bought APs back in 2007. This was before I knew about the Hojo. But even now if I got a good deal there, I'd stay again. It was nice, and fit our whole family with the two beds and sofa sleeper. Plus the breakfast was a bit hit. Back then it was a breakfast buffet, not sure what it is now.

Anyway, it's been about 3 years since we last stayed there, but back then I loved it. Here is more info I wrote in a TR about it:
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25766994&postcount=127

Hope that helps!

Tracey - the savings alone would have me leaning towards the Radisson as much as I love the HOJO if you can't get any other discounts. I'm still hoping (although I know it's probably futile to do so) that they'll release their Retro Rate for my next trip.
