Hi all! We are arriving (by car-- road trip!) on NYE 12/31 and checking into POFQ that day (probably early evening 6 or 7-ish).
We are NOT entering MK or any other park that day, but our plan is to hit up the MK Monorail loop area for some "vibes" and very likely stick around until the midnight fireworks and at least glimpse them from wherever we find ourselves, even if the viewing isn't optimal. During the 8p-11p time period, we might try for a dinner reservation at Kona Cafe or Steakhouse 71, do a loop around the monorail resorts and go in some of their gift shops, maybe get a Dole Whip at Pineapple Lanai, things like that. We know the general area will be extremely crowded and I'm expecting that as non-guests we will not be able to, for instance, view fireworks on the Poly beach-- so I'm aware of some of those types of limitations. Not going to be trying to fit in any specific list of activities.
My question is around transportation and an "escape plan" at 12:05AM-- I am thinking that since we will have our personal car, driving to the MK parking lot and focusing on the TTC as our "exit point" will be our best option. I suppose if we have an ADR at a resort, parking there is an option but for some reason I don't trust that as reliable on NYE, especially if we park for several hours. If we took the bus from POFQ to MK, we're then dealing with heavy crowds trying to get on the resort bus at midnight (plus sitting on an undoubtedly crowded bus of tired and likely cranky folks LOL). This is generally my thinking and plan at this moment.--Maybe we try to end up at TTC around 1120-1130, catch whatever view of the fireworks we can from there, and we're set up well for getting on one of the first tram rides back to our car and a relatively quick "escape" out of the parking lot well before all the Park-goers arrive at TTC.
Flaws in this?
-Will the MK parking lot be at full capacity in the evening?
-Maybe TTC is still a good exit point but should we try to do a Lyft back to the resort instead?
-Other areas aside from Poly beach that might be restricted on NYE to those that aren't guests of that resort?
Thanks in advance to all of you that really know all the ins and outs-- we go like every 4 years or so, so even though I've studied the aerial maps further, this is sort of a unique logistical challenge
