Morning everyone and happy Monday!

Andrea I so like your style! I sure hope that we get to meet at the Ladies trip this year!! I am still not 100% that mom and I will make it due to finances and such but you seem like my kind of gal!! ;)

My problem is most of my friends on the PTC are 4th grade parents and the few 5th grade parents that I have encountered this year are from the other class. I don't know if you saw some of my other posts but Katy is in a really lame class this year where NONE of the parents ever volunteer or even SHOW up for that matter. It has pretty much been myself and this one other mom the entire year and then the teacher or someone from the office has had to help out and even on this last field trip (that was supposed to happen on Wed) we couldn't get enough because the one other mom I KNEW moved! So they cancelled it! :( I know a FEW of the mom's from the other class but one of them pulled her kid out of the school after they confirmed that the 6th grade was leaving and the other ones that told me they were unhappy I only spoke with briefly during our SF trip. I don't know them very well but only had the opportunity to speak with them because of that trip. The 4th grade parents don't seem to care because it isn't affecting their kids. It is really sad. If I had been a room mom or something that had access to phone numbers or an e-mail list of all the 5th grade parents OR if this had been happening to the 4th grade parents I think things may have been different but this particular group of 5th graders just don't seem to have a lot of parents that give a rip or if they do like I said they don't want to make waves. It is truly sad! Now if this was happening to NEXT year's class it would be a WHOLE different story. I know a TON of those parents because I am really involved with that group. I volunteered in my youngest daughter's class for 2 years straight and I know those moms REALLY well and they are very involved but like I said since it isn't happening to THEM they don't seem to care. :( But to answer your question they have gotten SOME of the field trips this year that they would have gotten next year but not all and as far as the camping trip they will get a much shorter version at the jr high. At our school it is for a whole week but at the jr high it is only 3 days. Again kind of a cheat because it is not the same but what can you do! I have talked to the parents several times over the year and no one seems to think it is a big deal or they don't want to make waves like I said. They may say they are upset or mad but no one will DO anything so like I said I complained to the principal but he doesn't seem to care either because he thinks this "breakfast" is good enough. :( Kind of hard to do it all by myself.

Anyway yesterday was a crazy day! As some of the others mentioned we had some CRAZY weather. The girls and I went to mom's to do our canning and we had to run out to get some more supplies and grab lunch and the storm started in and it was NUTS! Thunder lightening and massive hail! CRAZY!!!! Then we came home and Katy made a batch of dill pickles and cherry jam so hopefully it turns out well. We can't taste the pickles for 3 weeks but they "look" good ;) And the jam should be able to test in a few days. We got all the forms filled out though so hopefully it all works out.

We also found out when our neighbors funeral is (wed) so dad and I will be going to that.

Katy is going to the jr high tomorrow for their visitation/picnic and wouldn't you know it is supposed to rain. The 5th and 6th graders are all suppose to walk over there and then get a tour and talk to the teachers and such and then they are getting lunch but now it is supposed to rain. I hope it isn't too miserable for them. Luckily it isn't TOO far of a walk!

Then on Wed Shelby has her field trip but Katy isn't getting to go on her's but at least the other 5th grade isn't going either. I still think the whole thing is lame but at least Katy's class doesn't have to stay at school while all the other classes get to go. And it worked out I guess since now I am going to the funeral.

Then this weekend we have our first real meet so I hope the weather is not yucky! I guess they had an invitational yesterday and had to cancel due to weather. Oh and also they had a clinic with 2 gold medalists a few weekends ago but it was during shelby's birthday plus we were short on money at the time and couldn't do it. But now it turns out that one of them is going to come and train the kids for 4 sessions so that is really exciting for them! The first one is Tues! So I am excited for the girls!!

His name is Randall Ball. Not sure which olympics he was in but anyway will be nice for them.

Anyway that's my news for the day.

Hope everyone has a good one!

Good morning, ladies!!! :sunny:

I am forcing myself to be way more peppy than I actually feel. I am not ready for this Monday morning. It arrived a lot quicker than it should have. Oh well, what can ya do......

I hope Monday is kind to you all and that you all have a great day.
TTYL!

Good news is I'm picking up more hours at work.
Yay for more hours! :thumbsup2

Does anyone know when we start planning the meet n greet? I haven't heard anything yet and was curious.
Me too!! I can't wait to hear the theme. popcorn::

Madison had her 11th birthday party Friday night - 8 girls for pizza, skating and slumber party. I may be getting too old for this - I was beat on Saturday. :rotfl2:

Beth-I would be interested in the exchange. Is it like the stocking exchange? I'm sure Madison would enjoy shopping for goodies.
My twins turn 11 this July. I was just thinking yesterday what to do for their birthday. It's more of a challenge to have a party since it's over the summer. Not as easy to get in touch with classmates and such. We might just keep it simple and stick with family. I'm not sure I have the energy or patience for a bunch of girls! My hat's off to you!

As for the exchange, yes, same concept as the stocking exchange, just with a fun summer theme. :)

We started up at the end of summer last year & communicated mostly thru FB.....not sure who will head up our team this time with Katie moving on, but you'll be messaged when we get started!!
This is who I have listed as being on the Meet and Greet committee. Is this still accurate:
Capri/disney-super-mom
Wendy/wendypooh22
Tammy/TTLee
Laurie/Diznee Luver
January/Daisy_77
Jen/MrsPinup

Come on girls, at least pick a theme! Don't keep us in suspense. We need a little sumthin'-sumthin' to tide us over...... :rolleyes1 ;)

Kind of hard to do it all by myself.
Yes, it is. Too bad more parents aren't interested. :(

I hope your crazy weather clears up. I know you are over it at this point. lol
And I hope the dill pickles and jam turn out great!!

Well, I hope everyone had a great weekend. We are counting down to the end of school here. About 3 more weeks. I'm already over it. LOL Bring on summer break!!!!! :cool1:  :yay:

Speaking of which, are y'all still interested in a "Summer Exchange"? Just want to make sure before I post it. :)
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who wants this year to be DONE! I'd love to do the exchange, is it kid to kid or how does that work? I have 4 kiddos so I can single-handedly double the participation, lol.

Well that stinks for Katy. We have an entire grade level at our school that is lame- I swear the parents couldn't even get it together to provide water bottles for their kids for our Walkathon. The parents were all too busy or well, just lame. I ended up buying 4 cases of water for the kids and I don't even have a 3rd grader lol.
I'm ready to fly up to where ever you are to crack the whip and get these parents to throw a party. I'm totally THAT mom that will make a plan and get people to carry it out by making them think they are missing out on something if they don't.
I hope you can go to the meet because I would LOVE to meet you! It cracks me up how similar our lives are, like Walter and Walternate in Fringe lol.

The Swim clinic with a pro sounds fun. I was looking at a camp at USC this summer but I don't want to drive it everyday (and the cost EKK!) . I don't think Mo will stay the night not knowing anyone there.

Oh my gosh Andrea I love it! You are SO my kind of gal and I WISH you were here!! We could do mad things girl!! ;)

And tell me you are a Fringe fan!! That is my FAVORITE show!! So I have to just say what did you think of the finale!! OMG Peter cannot be gone!! I know they will somehow bring him back but WOW! LOVED it and so can't wait till next fall! I was a huge lost fan as well and this is about the only show I truly love right now! All I can say is they better not cancel it!!! :)

Ok back to our regularly scheduled programming LOL! ;)

I had to rewind like 3 times to watch Pater vanish. I kept thinking there was an underlying message about when/where he might come back. For Gosh sake he finally hooked up with Dunham & made it real!
I'm thinking we'll jump back to 2011 and he will be there at the beginning of next season. Here's hoping!

Steph~ That sucks!!! Are they going to try again soon?

Jen & Kathy~ Congrats on finishing your 1/2 Marathons. You inspire me, but not enough to actually run one ;).

Hi Ladies!
I've been keeping up with this thread but haven't posted too much lately. Darn life getting in the way:( We've had terrible weather and a flu/cold that won't seem to die!

Sorry to hear you've been so sick Angie. Hope you get better soon :wizard:.

Hi Girls! I am so far behind, but I hope you are all doing well!

Good to see you Tina!!

Speaking of which, are y'all still interested in a "Summer Exchange"? Just want to make sure before I post it. :)

TTYL!

I'm on the fence. I may do it for Laila, but not me :confused3.

I have talked to the parents several times over the year and no one seems to think it is a big deal or they don't want to make waves like I said. You may not like my opinion, but I don't think it's a big deal. The kids are still getting most of the activities in one form or another and in reality, if the school is making changes, 1 year of students is going to get the short end of the stick and unfortunately it happened to effect one of your kids.

My belief is that there is always going to be change in life, both good and bad, and kids need to learn this and understand what disappointment is.

In the greater scheme of life, it's not a big deal and not worth stressing over IMO.

Good morning everyone! I had a very boring low key weekend (just want I wanted ;)).

Devin finally got his braces on & I really should have gotten them on a couple years ago, but I'm a notorious procrastinator :rolleyes1. I'm just hoping he'll be able to get them off before he graduates!!

Andrea that is funny that you feel the same way! I so know what you mean! I hope you are right and that they somehow "fix it" next season because I think Peter is an integral part of the show and I think they would really lose a lot of fans if they don't bring him back. But I think they will cuz they know he is important and a big part of the show. Like I said I can't wait to see how it plays out!

And Katie you are certainly entitled to your opinion but to me and to my child it IS a big deal. I am not "stressing" over it but I just think it is sad NOT just for Katy but for all of these kids. They did not CHOOSE this and I don't think they should just have to accept dissapointment because the shcools are only thinking about the all mighty dollar. Believe me the parents may not care so much about a graduation but there were PLENTY of parents upset about losing the 6th grade. MANY parents in our district were extremely upset and felt that it was not a good idea. There were several meetings and protests but like always what the people had to say in the end didn't seem to matter. I don't know what the bottom line is but I am CERTAIN it has to do with money to the schools. I have heard rumors that by eliminating the 6th grade they will be able to inegrate all day kindergarten and more programs that are state funded thus bringing more money into the school and to hell with the well being of the existing kids. Many parents feel that many 6th grade kids are not ready emotionally to go to middle school but the district didn't seem to want to hear it. And as I said we were forced into this and thus the kids were cheated out of their last year at grammar school as are all the subsequent kids. So it is really more than just this but this is just a side effect of the whole thing.

But I'm sorry I don't feel that ANY child should have to lose out on what ALL the kids before and all the kids after are going to be entitled to because the District and the current administration doesn't seem to care or "get it". These are easy things to do and fix and they just simply don't seem to even care. It may not seem like a big deal to you but it is CERTAINLY a big deal to my kid and I know other kids too. They do a big ceremony at our school where all the other grades bring flowers for the 6th graders and they sing to them and they basically get a whole day to celebrate them. My daughter has been waiting for "her" day her entire school career and I feel badly for her that she is now going to be cheated out of it because the school doesn't seem to think it is a big deal. It is not even like they "couldn't" do it they just don't care!

And I don't think ANY child anywhere should have to be dissapointed because a district simply doesn't care. Maybe it is not a big deal to you and that is fine but to us and others it is.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who wants this year to be DONE! I'd love to do the exchange, is it kid to kid or how does that work? I have 4 kiddos so I can single-handedly double the participation, lol.
I definitely try to keep it kid-to-kid, and try to keep the same age groups, but honestly it depends on sign-ups and how many we get. An adult might end up sending to a child, but I try to avoid that. If it happens, it's usually not a big deal because I for one love shopping for kids, especially little ones/babies as mine are starting to grow up!

It seems there is still enough interest, so I'll get it posted soon. Sometime this week for sure. :)

Devin finally got his braces on & I really should have gotten them on a couple years ago, but I'm a notorious procrastinator :rolleyes1. I'm just hoping he'll be able to get them off before he graduates!!
This seems to be the time for braces! Noelle got more spacers on this past week, and she goes in on the 24th for her actual braces.
One of Becci's kids also recently got theirs on, too.
I am a notorious procrastinator as well. Noelle should've been started on them a long time ago, but we kept putting it off. Finally we just had to bite the bullet and get going on it. Hannah needs braces too, but I can only handle one payment at a time!! lol

Hello!

Just popping in to say hi.

I saw the movie Bridesmaids on Saturday. It was very funny!

Have a great day!

Kelly we had the same situation happen to Derek.....after watching Nick & Tyler go thru 6th grade at the grade school & getting to do the 6th grade olympics & 6th grade play.....we were all very disappointed when they decided to move the 6th graders over to the middle school the year Derek was in 6th. We were hoping maybe they'd still try to incorporate those things in....but it didn't happen.

We were very concerned about moving 6th graders in with 7 & 8th grades, but they actually kinda kept the 6th grade classes & lunch times separate....so the transition worked out ok.

Unfortunately, schools are scrambling all over to make ends meet......we don't always like the decisions made.....but we deal with them the best we can. Hang in there!!

Happy Monday Diva's!
I'm totally annoyed because I multi quoted a whole page of stuff and lost it all when I hit post reply! Dang it!!

It went something like this:
Thanks Tracey for the event support :) If anybody wants to bid on the Disney Dooney, send me your final bid amount and payment info and I'll have a volunteer bid on it. I have no idea how high it will go.

Thank you for my signature help. I will copy it when I get home from work.

Steph, glad you are doing ok. Sorry they couldn't do the procedure...or is that a good thing??

Kelly - sorry for the school drama. They don't think about all these little things that effect the kids so much :(

Beth...40??? really ;) I liked 40...and have had ALOT of fun in my 40's. 50's make me a bit nervous only because it SOUNDS old...even though it's not. 60 Trudy?? nope, not ready for that yet and can't believe you are close to it. I believe Disney keeps us all very young at heart, which is the most important!

Today is Jordan & Jillian's 2nd anniversary. They bring me so much joy and they are a fantastic couple. We had them over last night to BBQ carne asada and played scattergories for hours, laughing our butts off. It was alot of fun.

Steve's been working on a new computer, so I have not been on it all weekend. I told him to please just save my photo's, Itunes and email/favorites and I'd be happy. Makes me so nervous to lose stuff. So far so good, although I don't usually find out we lost anything until I "need it" :(

I'm planning a family trip to Laughlin for Beau's 21st bday next month. Thats all he wanted to do...lol. I haven't been there for 7-8 years...anybody been lately and have recommendations of where to stay? I know there are some new hotels since we've been there.

wishing everybody well!!!

Yeah Laurie I know it sucks. I just don't see why when the schools do this kind of thing that they can't think a little bit about what they are doing to the kids that they are affecting. To me letting the kids have what the ones before had whether it be at the current school or at the new one should not be THAT big of a deal. We are not talking about rocket science or tons of money here I mean if they were able to do the olympics and the play for all the years prior why then was it such a big deal to not just move it to the 5th grade for the following years?? I mean everyone acts like these things are such a huge deal and I don't see why they are making it out to be one. I mean it would NOT be a big deal to let this one group of kids have an extra promotion or do the same field trips in the same year as the 6th graders but it is like they just don't WANT to even bother. And it seems like at your school it may have been the same. I guess I just don't understand why any schools think it is ok to do that to kids who have had siblings get things and for the younger kids to wait to have that same opportunity and then take it away. It just seems very unfair. And esp since it is not like they are now taking it away for EVERYONE from now on. In our case it is just this ONE year and starting next year the 5th grade will get everything that the 6th grade got THIS year. Seems just stupid to me. But anyway like I said I am not stressing over it I just feel bad because as I said my older daughter got these things and then didn't even appreciate it. I mean heck she dropped out of school and didn't even participate in half the stuff she COULD have when she was in school. And my younger one will get everything and HAS always seemed to get the best teachers and she always seems to get lucky and poor Katy got that horrible teacher last year and she doesn't have a whole lot of friends and I just feel bad for her. She always seems to get the short end of the stick.

On the good front my mom brought Katy's jam that she made in to work and it looks REALLY yummy!!

I can't wait for them to get home so we can crack it open and try it!! :) I don't know if we will use the other two jars we made yesterday for the fair or if we will make another batch but so far it seems like it worked so it is going to be exciting!!

Oh and Beth to answer your question about the exchange I would LOVE to do it but am not sure if I will be able to. I REALLY wanted to do this one since I missed the easter one but with our trip coming up money is going to be pretty tight so I will just have to see when it is and if it will work. But I am DEF interested and LOVE all the exchanges just not sure if I can swing this one. But I will def be on the sidelines watching even if I can't participate. I love to at least see all the fun stuff!! ;)

And I don't think ANY child anywhere should have to be dissappointed because a district simply doesn't care. Maybe it is not a big deal to you and that is fine but to us and others it is.

I think you totally missed the point I was making, but hey C'est la vie ;).

I never said you or the kids didn't have the right to be upset, but schools have to make changes and people will be disappointed. Kids NEED to learn about disappointment and how to deal with it.

Happy Anniversary Jill to your kiddos!! And Happy Birthday to your other son!

The trip sounds like fun! I've never been to Laughlin but heard about it. Your family always does such fun things together. I am sure no matter what you all do it will be a good time!! :)

This seems to be the time for braces! Noelle got more spacers on this past week, and she goes in on the 24th for her actual braces.
One of Becci's kids also recently got theirs on, too.

Are her teeth extremely sore? That is one plus to Devin having braces, he hasn't been eating as much and food is lasting longer . He actually told me he's going to loose weight since he doesn't enjoy eating anymore .

Adara needs braces too, but her's won't be as bad because she only has 1 tooth that's out of place. But I think I'll wait until Devin's done or nearly done before she gets hers.

No I got your point but I just don't see why they have to be dissapointed in THIS particular case when this is something EASILY fixable by the school. BELIEVE me my kids know ALL about dissapointment. My kids are far from spoiled and esp with my dh's current job situation they have def had to learn to live with dissapointment. I can't tell you how many times in the last few years we have had to cancel birthday parties, vacations, weekend trips etc because of lack of funds. I have tried to teach my kids that they don't get whatever they want whenever they want it and if we are short on money that the necessities come first and they know this.

But my point is this promotion, for example, is truly NOT that big of a deal. All the various parents donate a few items and the school doesn't put out any money or any real effort to do this. It is all pretty much done by parent donations and the PTC. There was NO reason why they couldn't set aside a day (seperate from the 6th graders day) for the 5th grade but they didn't even give us the chance. If they had even ASKED the 5th grade families I am sure they would have made it a nice affair and it wouldn't have cost the school a thing.

I totally get your point but I am just saying there was no reason they should have HAD to give this up and this particular event IS a big deal to a lot of kids and parents and it is not THAT big of a thing to put on and there is no reason why it shouldn't have happened. There are plenty of other things in life that these kids can learn lessons about dissapointment about and I know mine already know that and I am sure esp in this economy most of these kids already probably DO know that. I just don't think THIS particular thing is one of the things that they should have had to learn it from.

Hello!

Just popping in to say hi.

Have a great day!
Hi Sarah!!
Good to know that's a funny movie. It looked good, but sometimes they are over the top and silly, ya know?

We were very concerned about moving 6th graders in with 7 & 8th grades, but they actually kinda kept the 6th grade classes & lunch times separate....so the transition worked out ok.
I was so worried about Lindsey and Hannah going off to middle school next year, until we toured the school and they showed us how the 6th graders are basically kept in a separate area, with their own hallways, lockers, and such. Some of those 6th graders are so small compared to some of the 8th graders!! They'd get trampled other wise.

Beth...40??? really ;) I liked 40...and have had ALOT of fun in my 40's. 50's make me a bit nervous only because it SOUNDS old...even though it's not.

I'm planning a family trip to Laughlin for Beau's 21st bday next month. Thats all he wanted to do...lol. I haven't been there for 7-8 years...anybody been lately and have recommendations of where to stay? I know there are some new hotels since we've been there.
I think I will like 40, too. :)

Laughlin, huh?? Tell him to come to Vegas instead!! You can stay at the Golden Nugget with their awesome shark tank pool!! Or MGM with their cool, relaxing lazy river. So much more to do and see here. Just sayin.....
But if his heart is set on Laughlin, I'd check tripadvisor. They are my go-to site for hotels. And yelp for food suggestions.

The last time my mom and dad went to Laughlin they stayed at the Golden Nugget Laughlin, which was about two years ago, but I see it's still rated number 1 for that area. She liked it alright. Nothing fancy, but ok.
I still think he should change it to Vegas though. :rolleyes1

On the good front my mom brought Katy's jam that she made in to work and it looks REALLY yummy!!

I can't wait for them to get home so we can crack it open and try it!! :)
Good to hear! Now I want biscuits and jam. lol

Are her teeth extremely sore? That is one plus to Devin having braces, he hasn't been eating as much and food is lasting longer . He actually told me he's going to loose weight since he doesn't enjoy eating anymore .
Yes, they are. :( She doesn't even have the actual braces on yet, but just the spacers made them sore enough that she would only eat applesauce, pudding, jello, ice cream, and Top Ramen. :sad2:
I tried mashed potatoes, but she doesn't like those. A couple soft pastas, like the Pasta Roni, worked too.

Does anyone know when we start planning the meet n greet? I haven't heard anything yet and was curious.
Us Scavy people have been hard at work since right after the last trip.:rolleyes1
. 60 Trudy?? nope, not ready for that yet and can't believe you are close to it. I believe Disney keeps us all very young at heart, which is the most important!

I'll be 56 in July and that's closer to 60 than it is to 50. I don't feel anywhere near that age though.

Hi gals! :wave2:

I'm on day 10 of being sick, and it just sucks big time! I did my first 12k yesterday (Bay to Breakers) and it was tons of fun, but man am I sore. Pretty much anything that could go wrong did (both me and my running partner were sick, we somehow got put in different corrals, our alarm didn't go off in the morning, Aunt Flo was visiting, etc. etc.), but it was still tons of fun. I have 4 finals this week and am so looking forward to this semester being over.

I hope everyone is doing well. Big hugs to Steph, I hope they get everything all figured out soon. :flower3:
