"Diva" Trip - "Cliff Notes" p.236 OLD THREAD!

I am going to WDW for the 1/2 Marathon, Oct 1. Not sure of the exact travel dates yet, but I was wondering if anyone was going around that same time?

Also, I would love to have a mini Diva trip to WDW someday. I know y'all used to have the Diva trip there... I'm from Florida, and I can get rooms at Lake Eve resort for cheap (a friend of mine from high school works there.) I don't want to post the rate I get, but it would be about $10 per person per night. They're really nice. I lived in Orlando after college 2005 & 2006, and worked for a Surveying firm that drew up the plans for them. They were supposed to be luxury apartments/condos, but that was during a housing boom. Anyways, I also have some CM friends that can help with admission to the parks (if we had a small group) including Disney water parks. So, if anyone wants to do a Marathon weekend sometime (I know Jen might), let me know.

But you know, Halloween is better. :rolleyes1 ;)

As much as you love Halloween......is how much I love Christmas!!

Oh, not sure if you've heard.... Elizabeth Taylor passed away. :( So sad, what a true legend.

I saw that this morning......my mom has to chuckle......it says she was 79, but when she was younger.....her & my mom were the same age & now my mom is 4 yrs older.....weird, I wonder what the secret is??

Hi Marie, this particular group, the Dis Divas, has only been at Disneyland. Our first trip in '08. And it's where we've gone every year since. We have had mini meets take place in WDW and Las Vegas, but the main group has always been at DL. :)
When I lived in Michigan from '04 to '07, I did start another group of DIS ladies-only trips, and those were to WDW. They called themselves the Blue Goose (after a drink made up of Grey Goose vodka and the blue slushies from the POP food court) and we had a huge thread here on the DIS at one point.

But anyway, I bet a lot of the ladies here would love to do a WDW Diva trip!! When were you thinking? Did you have a time in mind?
Great deal by the way at the Lake Eve resort. I've never heard of it..... I'll have to Google it and give it a peek! ::yes::

As much as you love Halloween......is how much I love Christmas!!

Fine. Whatever. ;) LOL  I've been at both holidays a couple times now, and really, they are both pretty amazing. You'll have a blast!! And I'll be eagerly awaiting your TR for that trip too!

Must be that Hollywood magic. :wizard:

I'm thinking Dec 8-12 (or longer). DH can't take time off during Novemeber or December, so that's when I do my solo WDW trip. There are lots of meets during that time (last year WDWToday had their Reunion event - but they have not announced official dates for 2011), AllEars has announced some meets and events for those dates.

Edit: I also wanted to do Expedition Everest Challenge May 7... but that is really short notice...

I've never been to New Orleans - that would be fun (Cafe du Monde???)

No kidding, right??? Some divas going on vacation???

Yay for leaving tomorrow and for painted toenails (and no Uggs!) Have fun, Jill.

I like being grown up - I get to make my own rules now :rolleyes1

BTW - I'm going to be in Disneyland in August with Jesse at the same time as the D23 Expo (Aug 17-20). He's not interested in going to that at all, but if anyone is there at the same time, I'd love to get together for lunch or drinks (or an ice cream) :upsidedow

I have been to NO, it was a blast, it was the late 1990's, early 2000's.

Of course, some Divas are going on vacation... what do you expect? We're Divas!! I still need to do my toenails...

I also like being grown up, just because I can make my own rules and make others follow my rules!!

I'm so glad you're going in August, we'll definitely see you there!!

Theresa - I'll be there during D23!! I know there are a few others as well - we'll have to plan a meal. I'll be there with my dh and two oldest kids. :cool1:

Can't wait, Becci!!

Wishing all the Divas headed to WDW safe and comfortable travel. Can't wait to hear all about your adventure!

Thanks, Kathy!

Welcome Patty!

Good morning all!!!

Like your ticker! It's getting so close!!

Is this some members of that group? They will be going during the Oct half Marathon...

Hi Laurie,

We live appx. 100 miles up the 5 from Salem. We used to own a camping time share at Thrill Ville and would visit Salem a few times during the year. We have not been back to Salem since Thrill Ville turned the private park into public camping and sold our membership to a VERY nice timeshare on Oregon Coast.

I understand how you felt taking a trip without bringing at least one family member. I would feel so guilty if I had a great time watching a show or having a meal that was affordable for one but by adding more people would be out of question. My way of making it all right is: I plan 2 trips --well used to daughter is grown now---one for family -one solo. When I go solo It's all about me and I have a Tinker Belle t-shirt to prove it. Family trip is all about "them" I am like the Trip Butler. I try to make what ever the family wants to do happen. I have been know to even cook all the meals when we go to WDW. Keeps everyone on a --LIKE HOME MEALS---plan. We have lots of treats though and one or two nice dinners at EPCOT. Gotta love the villa's at Board Walk.

Long story short-- Very close to Salem-- and even closer to the Outlet stores between me and Salem.

Angie I went to NY in 09 and I am sure there are a lot of people that prob have opinions but I can tell you that a lot of people prob try to stay up in the Times Square area as that is where a lot of the action is and you can prob get deals on rooms there but it was SUPER busy and I DEF would not want to be there. It is def the city that doesn't sleep and if that doesn't bother you then it prob wouldn't be a big deal but we prefer things a little more peaceful. We actually stayed down in Battery Park down by the WTC site and by the Statue of Liberty. It was a bit farther by subway or cab to the other attractions but we stayed in a REALLY nice Embassy Suites that had a view of the Hudson AND Liberty and we were still close to sites on that end of town. I can tell you getting a 1 or 2 day pass for the double decker bus is def the way to go also. It was the best way to get around town! It stops every few blocks and you can just hop on and off the entire length you have the ticket and we never used the subway or cabs except for the few times we wanted to divert off the route of the bus. We took the subway the night that we went to Broadway and then took a cab home because we didn't want to ride the subway that late at night. If you have any other questions feel free to ask but we had a BLAST and you will LOVE it!! :) Also FYI if you want to tour Liberty Island you need to get timed tickets ahead of time to go into the crown or the base of the statute! ENJOY!! :)

Thanks Kelly! I'll be bugging you with more questions!

Angie, what the hey are you doing up at 1:41 a.m. :confused3 Eek!
I have no life and it's so nice quiet once everyone goes to sleep.

Don't forget you can get 1/2 price tickets to the current plays by going to the TKTS booth the day of. We got tickets to The Producers and Beauty and the Beast this way - and good seats!
Thanks!

Hey, I have 2 friends who live in NY. I'll message them, and let you know what they say. What a super fun adventure for you and your honey!
Thank you!

Cool Beans!! I know of Thrillville......a family that went to the school I graduated from were the owners. Unfortunately, liability insurance forced them to close.....just go too expensive for a small business to pay out.

So you must be in Washington?? I believe Portland is 40 miles from me & the border is on the north side!

Are you talking about the Woodburn Factory Outlet Mall?? Drive by it a ton but have never once stopped there.....weird huh??

I think I'll be better prepared to do a solo trip next time. With this being my first time & having special needs twins that take up all 24 hrs in a day.....it was weird not having anyone on my lap, in my arms, tugging my pants & shirts, needing to be tube-fed, diaper changed, etc, etc. I really was lost at what I should be doing....usually my day is all routine. Once Mike got there, I was starting to enjoy my break......so next trip, watch out!!! lol

I am also big into coupons (or was!) I have stacks of them I have yet to go through! I even had my own blog for awhile but it was to hard to keep up. Other couponing blogs I like are moneysavingmom dot com forthemommas dot com and my favorite myfrugaladventures dot com.

I was MAKING money shopping at target for awhile with the gift card offers but lately I haven't seen anything really interesting on the gift card offers.

I also love shopping at CVS & Rite-Aid where the only thing I was paying was tax.

I got mine! I'll be adding it to my sig as soon as I am done here! I love it!!
I used to be a CVS crazy couponer. I had so much toothpaste, deoderant, lotion and shampoo...I could box it up and donate it monthly...LOL
I love doing the Target gift card deals, and then I save all the $5 and $10 gift cards all year and use them after Christmas. 2 years ago I had $180 in gift cards (a very embarrasing stack of them...lol), last year I had $125. They've really changed the gift card deals. I usually do the vitamin water, cereal and pharmacy transfers here and there.

My son had to get dress pants last weekend, so I gave him a $10 Kohl's certificate, along with a 30% off card, and then he had to return a shirt I had bought him a while ago. He was so excited that he got dress pants and a new suit coat for 80% off and only had to pay a few dollars :) I was excited, to see him excited at saving money! My oldest son sent me a link a month or so ago, about an awesome cereal deal on Amazon...I laughed so hard when I got the email. I didn't even know you could buy cereal on amazing...LOL

I love all the talk about mini meets, Halloween meets and my absolute favorite time of year...holiday time. First week of December is my absolute favorite time to go to WDW :)

Rain is on the way to OC...I need to finish packing when I get home from work...I can't concentrate on anything today...LOL

OK, that is my goal, to find you a Vegas Domo. :thumbsup2

That would be sweet!! :teeth:

Patty! :)

I would LOVE to do a WDW meet-up! I  WDW!! I really want to go during the food & wine festival sometime but I would be open to anytime!

I have a timeshare we could use... It's Bonnet Creek! Actually on WDW property but not WDW unfortunately. It is right next door to Caribbean Beach Resort. I only have the timeshare every other year on the odd years (so this year and then not till 2013)

Hi to all,

Nice to meet you all. (Even though I feel like I know a few of you already.)

I am finally going to toss my mickey ears into the Diva's trip planning thread and officially start planning my first Diva Trip with you all.

My name is Patty

Welcome Patty !!!!!! Glad to hear you're interested in doing the scavy hunt ! You'll love it. Plan on coming to the Meet and Greet too! Another thing you'll love !!!
But you know, Halloween is better. :rolleyes1 ;)
Of course it is !:rotfl:

Such a great time to go! Weather is much more tolerable. We did a family trip end of November once and loved it. We also did the MVMCP which is a lot of fun.
Sadly, I'd have to skip a WDW meet. My kids are cool with me going to Disneyland solo because they grew up going there and have been tons of times. But WDW?? Forget it. They'd never let me go without them. :rotfl2:

Hope you can put something together though! Sounds fun!! And that resort seems quite nice.

Of course, some Divas are going on vacation... what do you expect? We're Divas!! I still need to do my toenails...
Get crackin' woman! You need purty toes. ;)

They were. They went on the very first WDW trip, but then sort of dropped off on their own after that. We didn't hear from them again. At least I didn't. I don't know them very well but I remember those names.
The Blue Goose group is on another board now and only a handful of the original members still meet up now and then. :)

Drive by Hi!

Isn't that awesome! I love the deals at Kohls. Noelle found a nice pair of boots last month that were originally $109 marked down to $20 and then I had an additional 30% off card on top of that!

Of course it is !:rotfl:
:thumbsup2

We debated the October thing....but if I finally get to go during one of the holidays, I'm picking Christmas first!! It's my favorite holiday!

Christmas is my favorite holiday too - and we're going the last bit of November, first bit of December. Never been at Christmas, so I'm so excited :yay:

Theresa - I'll be there during D23!! I know there are a few others as well - we'll have to plan a meal. I'll be there with my dh and two oldest kids. :cool1:

Becci - yay, I'm so glad you'll be there. We totally have to plan something!!!

We are starting to plan a family trip for November (after Thanksgiving). The girls are getting so excited!

Dianna, do you mean planning a DL trip for November (after US Thanksgiving)??? That's when we're going too :thumbsup2

Theresa - at this time I am not planning to start a thread for this but maybe when it gets closer if other people are interested in going. I have not been before but it looks like it is all day Saturday, so if there are a few of us maybe we could get together for dinner. I am planning to stay the Friday and Saturday night, probably at the Embassy Suites.

It might be a good idea to keep the names of everyone who has already said they'd be interested on the first page then, so we can see if there is enough interest.

Rain is on the way to OC...I need to finish packing when I get home from work...I can't concentrate on anything today...LOL

No rain here today (you must be getting ours!). Have a great trip, Jill!

That would be sweet!! :teeth:

That smiley makes me laugh every time I see it - looks like that last guy is pooping flowers

I'd be fine doing that. It's good to know how many people are at least thinking of it, and if they'd be going solo or with family. Then you all can start to make some definite plans.

How does that sound, Carol? Would you like me to add a list of those going to the PNW meet to the front page?
If so, I need all those interested to post once again who's going and when they'll be there.

Well, we didn't get much wind last night. Now they are saying tonight/tomorrow morning and they upped it from 35MPH gusts to 50MPH. I am fairly certain that the 2 leaning sections of fence will be in my neighbor's yard sometime tomorrow morning. They tried falling over here on Saturday night and I propped them up and now they are leaning the other way. Hey, it's not my fault if the neighbor isn't checking the fencing and putting up supports on their side too..... :rolleyes1

My day has been pretty boring. Went to Target. Went to the Post Office. Browned some pork chops and they are simmering away in the slow cooker with cream soups and herbs and making me SUPER HUNGRY. Did laundry. The cat is snoring on the bed and I *so* want to join her, but I think I'm going to go into the craft cave and make a couple birthday cards I'm late on.... oops....

BBL

Oh, Rochelle.... I love the Vegas Domo pic. That is too cute!

Thanx Bridget!!!!

We debated the October thing....but if I finally get to go during one of the holidays, I'm picking Christmas first!! It's my favorite holiday!

We are doing Halloween for the first time this year but I have already done Christmas many many times over the years. If I had not done either yet I would recommend going for Christmas first as well. Don't forget to pop over to the PCH and see if you can get that tree to smile for the camera.
