Wow, I never knew families celebrated St. Patricks day. We never did...not once. Except for wearing green to school that day, it was just like any other day at my house growing up. I don't think my mom ever made corned beef and cabbage....ever. And she's half Irish - lol. :goodvibes

Well it is time you broke with tradition and did something I guess! My husbands family is ALL Irish and mine is 1/2 so it is a big deal around here especially with all the kids out of school! We all have buttons we wear that say "I am Irish every day of the year!"

my parents were married on St. Pat's Day so it was always a double celebration.

I am having my neighbors over, my Mom and Brandy. My friend Scott may come by for dessert--he doesn't eat beef so he is not enticed by corned beef. I told him he could eat the potatoes, cabbage and carrots and he turned up his nose (although he ate so many carrots in law school he turned orange). My Mom is making chocolate cupcakes and I am making Bailey's Irish Cream cream cheese frosting for them.

Need Need Need that frosting recipe...LOVE me some Baileys! Our boat is named Bailey's Irish Dream (our last name is Bailey)

Some of my friends celebrate St Pattys day by making their house a mess before their kids wake and blaming it on a leprachaun. They leave the toilet seat up and use green food coloring in the bowl so it looks like leprachaun pee :rotfl: Normally I just make corned beef (no cabbage here) and some potatoes.

Btw....I am officially caught up! Lets hope it can stay that way :surfweb:

We are so dying the toilet water green now! That is priceless!

We never celebrated St Patricks either Capri.

But once I was married I usually made corned beef and cabbage. Anyone that knows me knows I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to have cabbage. ;)

I like the idea of glazing it in the oven, Mel. To take away that "boiled" flavor. I am curious as well about the mustard and brown sugar. We usually just squeeze brown mustard on it after it's cooked, but I think I would like your method better.

I love everyone's menus.

HB to Anthony! He's hit the double digits now. :)
And BTW, loved your trip report Laurie. :cutie:

Well, I'm ready for tomorrow. Dug the forest green t shirt out of the drawer (I wear green ONCE a year. That's IT). Found the shamrock hair scrunchie. Have the corned beef and red potatoes. Need to run to the store for some Guinness and sour cream for the soda bread (recipe is from Trader Joe's).

DH likes the corned beef boiled. With red potatoes. Neither of us are fans of cabbage. I have extra spices I add to mine (Penzy's Corned Beef Spice) because that wimpy packet that comes with the beef is SO not enough!

Thanx Linda!! Anthony was sweet, he cried when he was reading the card from my oldest son & his fiance........ahhhhh

I'm glad you got over to read it!!! Thanx!!

:( Can I just say that family members dealing with depression just sucks all around.

Yes it does Jazz......I've been on both ends, the one with it & the one watching someone else suffer from it.

One thing Colton really loves on St Pats too is breakfast because I make green eggs & ham and we read Dr Suess while we cook.
I was thinking of going the green eggs route too.

Oh. My. Goodness. That sounds so good.

Here are my rainbow cupcakes

I just made a big batch, but is still not enough, so I have to run to the store to get more supplies.
Cute! I've made those before, and they are a bit time consuming. My hats off to you for making even more!!

:( I'm sorry, Jess.

Something dangerous happened tonight......
I found a new ice cream that I love!

It's called Sea Salt Caramel Truffle. It's chocolate covered salted caramels folded into caramel ice cream, and swirled with sea salt caramel.
If you are a fan of the salty/sweet combo, OMG, this is just the thing. I wasn't even sure I'd like it, but yep......I do.

So I'm gonna fix me a bowl and plop down to watch Survivor and Idol.
Have a great night everyone. :)

:grouphug: Thanks everyone. Tonight's not been one of the best nights but things have calmed down around here for the time being which is good.

My mom brought up the birthday-bash in Vegas in August again. I think I've decided to go provided I can get the time off work. We shall see. I suppose I can suck up a few days with the awful cousins to help my mom celebrate 50. We shall see, we shall see.

I'm off for the night ro go do a little reading. I need a little Rebecca Bloomwood logic to cheer me up for a little while.

Nummy :cloud9:.

You must be my sister from another mister ;). I love me some cabbage. I actually eat it at least 4 times a week.

:guilty: Sadly I know what you mean ((hugs)).

That does sound delish, but I think I may have to stay away from that one. I love sweet and salty so it won't end well if I get started .

Nighty night all.

Yeah my legs are done from standing in the kitchen trying to get each layer even. :faint:

Jessica~

Hola chicas! I hope you had a wonderful day!

The area I live in has had some crazy weather...snow storms, flooding, and yet I spent most of the day sweaty for some reason. :lmao: I was even wearing a skirt without tights or hose.:confused3 I blame the antibiotics.

AND...I have laryngitis to add to my week o' fun. I work retail and have to be chatty with the customers...so people were looking at me like I was a freak because I was whispering at them. Then when I did talk (cuz I LOVE to talk) I sounded like a dog barking.

Morning ladies!!

Today is Anthony's 10th birthday......I can't believe he's that old!!

Tomorrow is our 27th Anniversary & the twins 2nd anniversary on their adoption......so a couple busy days coming up!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANTHONY!!! :banana::banana:

Good morning ladies,

I just wanted to share this link I found online. It's of how to make cute Mickey and Minnie candy topiaries to use as centerpieces. It's so cute and I want to try it. :) lol. http://my2pinkladies.blogspot.com/2011/03/minnie-mickey-mouse-centerpieces.html

Oooo, I like :thumbsup2

delayed reaction, but :lmao:

So either you ladies need to stop chatting so much - Where is Capri with her Quiet Coyote?! Or I need to do something about all my school work! So much time is put into lesson prep. For the Divas who are teachers - :worship: It is so hard to find free time now!

Rochelle~ That engagement you posted was sooooo cute! I :lovestruc Disneyland proposals! I keep telling my DH to re-propose to me in DL. Our original one was a disaster :P

Here are my rainbow cupcakes

I just made a big batch, but is still not enough, so I have to run to the store to get more supplies. We do St. Patty's teachers grams at my kid's school and I am in charge of them. I am making 50 rainbow cupcakes for the whole staff, plus each person gets a lotto ticket and a little poem :) I think I am making extras for my kids and the high school kids in my youth group since tomorrow night is also youth.

Any talk of a mini meet on Labor Day weekend? :rolleyes1 I will be down for the half marathon and it would be great to meet up!

Btw....I am officially caught up! Lets hope it can stay that way :surfweb:

I love that cupcake!! I want to make some like that for Maddie's next birthday. I saw how to do it on a cooking blog. With my attention span I may lose interest after the first layer :lmao:But she would love something like that. Cool looking cupcakes taste yummier than plain boring looking ones. Although I don't think I met a cupcake I didn't like.:rolleyes1

Sorry to hear this, Jessica. Hang in there.

Good gravy! It's hard enough to stick to my stinkin weight watchers points without veering off to the disney food pics thread, seeing rainbow cupcakes, and now salty sugary cold creamy goodness. :sad2: Ugh, I guess I will have to pump up the jam and get to working out more if I'm gonna be hanging out on the dis again.

There is a shop here in Boise called Taters. They have chocolate covered potato chips that are so good! I love salty and sweet. When I was pregnant with Maddie I used to dip my Wendy's fries in my chocolate frosty. Yep. It's good!:thumbsup2

I fully admit to having done this in the past and I wasn't even pregnant. It is yummy! Back then wendy's was only down the street from me & on my way home from work...very dangerous!

Goodnight Ladies!

Happy St. Patricks Day

Those making corned beef and cabbage yummy. My kids don't like it and I'm not eating meat right now so not having any this year.

My kids (teenagers) are not into the whole green thing but I am a preschool teacher. We are going to have green healthy food snacks, the leprechaun is going to mess up our class when we are outside and after lunch we are having lime sherbert with lemon lime soda and green sprinkles.

Have a great day
Monica
