Distraught over Haunted Mansion

I just read that it will be closed during our trip this year. In fact, it's closed all summer and that is UNACCEPTABLE. It's closed 6/6 - 9/12. We go 8/11. I'm considering changing my dates JUST because of this. I can't imagine being at the MK and the Haunted Mansion not being open. It would KILL me.

Have any of you been for your yearly trip and found out that your FAVORITE, or at least an attraction in your top 3, was closed? Was it miserable for you.

I'm distraught and want to cry now.

I just won't go. I'm going to be a baby now.

We went when they were refurbishing POC. Hubby was very distraut. We had to walk by the attraction every day just so he had his fix.

Honestly, one particular attraction being closed even if it is my favorite would not make me distraught. There are too many other wonderful things to do.

I have been when Pirates was closed and when It's a Small World was closed. I think those are both great attractions but the overall experience is what it is about for me and one attraction not being available is not going to get me down.

Thanks for the reply. We were there when POC was closed. That was rough enough but the Haunted Mansion....I don't think I can stand it.

Does anyone know if they are just refurbing it or are they going to ruin it by changing something that is already perfect. If the latter is the answer, there will be 1,000 happy haunts because I'm going to KILL whoever made the decision.

I almost wish I hadn't heard about this.

Splash Mtn was closed a few winters ago when I was there and I felt exactly the same way:scared1: be brave, wdw is still wdw and there will be magic around every corner

Pam, I have to agree with you! Our trip is 6/10 as the HM is one of my absolute favorites!! Summer is busy... not a time to refurb a major attraction...! :sad2:

You'll be okay.:) Hey, it's an excuse to schedule another trip.;)

Best of luck.

thanks everyone for trying to console me. It's not working, but I appreciate the effort. I searched and found the long thread on the subject. I'll have to say I didn't notice that it needed a rehab. And, I'll never agree that summer is a good time to close a major attraction.

I snagged $125 at the Swan in August, if I can get a similar rate I might switch my trip dates. I'm sorry but the Haunted Mansion=Disney.

Or, I could go twice I suppose. I think I like that idea. :thumbsup2

I want to smack someone in management for making this decision. I think a better time would be Jan/Feb/March. Or, Nov/Dec/Jan.

I know that would impact the holiday crowds but there are so many extra and wonderful things going on during the holidays. Summer is busy and summer is vacation time.

I suppose I'll survive but I'm just not happy about this. I suppose I sound like a spoiled brat but don't mess with my classic Disney attractions. I'm old school!

I agree...crappy time to close a major attraction:sad2: we were lucky enough to make the soft opening for POTC last summer our final night. over the years, it does happen--I tell my family well in advance so they can get their disappointment out and over by the time we are there:headache: We toured HM in the KTTK tour last summer and I remember hearing it would be up for the overall "freshening" that happens on a rotating basis to all the attractions. I just hope they fix the audio in the buggies...at some points in the ride you struggle to hear the words, especially through the cemetary.:rolleyes1 WDW June 15--here we come:cool1:

I do understand. HM is my favorite too. I hope you are able to switch dates ... Good Luck.

I don't know if you guys have noticed, but there no longer is a really SLOW season at WDW. So there is not a good time to close an attraction. No matter when they do it someone will be on here whining....

I can't believe they would close such a popular attraction during the busiest times! It just doesn't make sense to me!
We are going back in June...1 week too late for the Haunted Mansion! and while we were there in January, Splash Mountain AND RocknRoller Coaster were both closed! THAT was pretty hard to deal with but we still had a great time, as usual.
Lets just hope this is the only attraction closed for the summer.

On my last trip in January both Splash and RNR were closed while I was there. I was very sad but I got over it an planned another trip in June to make up for it.

I feel your pain. We are kicking around going in August if its free dining. Now DH says he won't go. It is his favorite ride. I think he is serious.
I really want to go especially if its free dining. It would save us like $1000. :confused3

Sorry to hear it's going to be closed when you're down there. :grouphug:

We've been the the World twice now, once in 95 and again last year. We have yet to be able to ride the POC. It was closed both times. Unfortunately, it's something that just have to grin and bear. :) The DS is so excited that he actually gets to go on the POC in a couple of weeks he's dancing around the house.

Disney already had so many attractions/pools/restaurants closed for refurb this spring that I thought people on this board were going to start a lynch mob!:scared1: I understand your being upset, I would be too. But it is just not possible for every refurb to be done during the off season. I think using the fact that the haunted mansion is closed during your vacation as a reason to go back is a great idea!

I am super dissapointed too but I am trying to be positive. My trip is planned for June 10-17 and my parents are going with us. They haven't been to MK since they took me when I was 5. That was 30 yrs ago. The biggest stand outs from that trip were Dumbo, IASW, and HM. I hate that we all will not be able to revisit the HM with my now 5 yr old DD. Just another reason to plan another trip soon!!:thumbsup2

I really can't believe they're closing it for the entire summer, that's ridiculous. I'm really annoyed by this too.

i am mad too ...wanted my daughter to see it god knows when i will get to go back again. the worst part is going on this thread and reading replys from the people on this site who always take disneys side....its the worst the couldof waited till sept .

I'm not POd about it, as I know I'm going again in December, but I think it shows just HOW MUCH work is needed on HM, and it probably can't be done a bit at a time. It is a shame that is will be down so long, meaning so many people WILL miss the chance.

If the work also involves replacing the chillers that keep the temperature reasonable during those 100 degree days, I'd rather they do the work than burst into flames...
