Caskbill has logged the distances for some of the more common walks around WDW, including the one you mention. I'm not sure where he keeps those links to those reports though. Hang around, and someone will have it I'm sure.
when you check in ask for the map - in the previous post that was the inside track - but they have an outside track (most of it is along sidewalk so it is safe) that goes all around BC/YC/D/S close to Studios then back to BWV and back again - I think this one is 3 miles? might be longer. the map has the details.
Originally posted by Disneyflyer I remember reading a post giving specific distances for walking/jogging around the boardwalk/BCV area. Does anyone have any info on this?
I like to jog when I am on the road, and as a rule of thumb at DVC, I just like to go out and explore. I don't worry so much ablout distance, I usually go by time, for instance, 15 minutes out and 15 minutes back gives me a basic jogging workout. Just a suggestion. If you have been jogging long enough, you tend to be pretty close in estimating how far you've gone.
Thanks all for the help! I'm sure a quick 3 mile run will suffice before chasing the kids around the parks all day! I will ask for the map at check in.
Last time we went to the parks we ate everything in sight (including, I suspect, a fencepost and a couple of tires off the bus). But we walked everywhere, and covered so many miles that nobody gained an ounce of weight. Certainly you can jog for the sheer pleasure of it at the parks, but you don't need to do so out of a sense of duty.
See http://allearsnet.com/acc/jog.jpg for an Epcot Resort jogging map. There is no need to use the large 2.4 mile route as three times around Crescent Lake is almost exactly 2.4 miles anyway (that's what I do).
If you run on a regular basis, walking in the parks is not really an adequate substitute if you're on vacation for a week or more. After a few days your legs start to feel bloated and uncomfortable. It's not necessarily a matter of obsession or duty, it's simply more comfortable to maintain your regular exercise habits. I get up at 6AM and sneak out of the room to go running my usual 3 days a week, though I don't run quite as far or as fast as at home. It's actually fun to be out and about that early. And if you are going to the parks with a runner, you will appreciate that a morning run slows them down a little for the rest of the day!
I enjoy my runs at WDW especially around Crescent Lake. It is so beautiful that I find myself visualizing it on my runs when I get back home! Since we usually only go to the theme parks once or twice each trip, I try to schedule my runs on our "off" days.
For a change of pace, I sometimes go down the canal by the BW and then up by the road which crosses over the canal and then back down along the canal on the Swan side. It's 7/8 of a mile.
Thanks for the link Erik. I'm with you! There is nothing like a morning run to get my day started off right! Of course when you're at WDW that has to be followed by a pancake and egg breakfast
Last Oct. I ran from the Swan to MGM,and back, then 2 laps around the lake. When I started my run at 6:00am it was still dark and I only noticed 1 other runner. It was a great run which I hope to repeat on future visits. This was on our 1st morning at WDW and we (DW & I) transfered over from the the Swan to BCV where we were joined by DS, soon to be DDIL, BIL & SIL.
BIL did join me on 2 more runs that week, but I could never get him out of bed and running till 7:00.
One nice thing about running in WDW is the vacation from hills
