Hello again. I was just wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea of how long it take to go from plots 1500 and 2000 to the main buildings, at a leisurely walking pace? Also are there any hills (even fairly minor ones) along either route?

Thanks guys!

There might be a gentle (very gentle slope) but no hillls. On a bus it only takes 5 minutes but I don't think that I have walked it. We do so much walking in the parks that we want to save our feet.

It is competely flat. W
Which main building do you mean the reception/check in area or the marina/trail's end area I would say each side is probably a 30 minute walk, we have bikes so I am not sure how long it would actually take to walk it.

I meant the marina end, sorry for not clarifying. Half an hour is quite a trek. How frequent are the buses in that area and how late do they run? Just trying to work out my options before I look at booking. At the moment I'm torn as to whether to get a preferred site for a shorter journey, or to go on the tent site to be with other tenters and avoid being crowded in between a couple of RVs (no offence intended to RV owners, I'm sure you're all perfectly lovely neighbours). All suggestions / opinions / ideas greatly appreciated!

Thanks all!

It won't take a half hour from those loops - it takes me about 23 - 25 minutes from the parking lot to walk to the Trails End area. I have this walk starting on http://www.denisesfitnessblog.com/disney/?pg=2

At the bottom of the page, you can hit "next" for more of the FW walks (they are now on 2 pages). If you are near the Meadows, that is close to the main area - about 8 minutes walk for me.

Wow! That's a great site, thank you so much! I love the photos, and the timings will really help me too. I'm guessing you walk at a reasonable pace? If there aren't any real hills, I should be able to wheel fairly quickly myself, though.

Sorry, rambling a little, but :thanks: I love it!

Thanks, I am glad you liked the photos! I had posted the links previously, but they are somewhere probably on the 3rd page or so of posts. :)

I walk at a normal pace, about 3mph (not fast, it just feels fast to me!)

There really aren't any hills. The meadows area has a little bit of slopes - but definitely not hills.

And the buses run till 2 am.

Don't worry about being squeezed in between rv's--most of the sites are roomy enough. Not like that episode of RV Roadtrips I just saw:scared1: That was just a parking lot with only about a foot between rigs!!!

Nbodyhome, thanks for the information. I'm used to hills at home (I study in Exeter, and that's basically just one giant hill) but I was worried about shoving up them in the heat, especially after a few full days at the park.

Campingcorgi, thank you for letting me know about the buses, it's reassuring to know that we won't have to walk home when we get in from the parks dead on our feet (or, in my case, wheels).

I'm getting rather excited about the idea of camping at WDW, my only worries now are whether my mother will like the idea, and whether we'll be able to get a pitch when I finally find out whether I've got this summer job or not.

:thanks: so much everyone for all the help and advice. I love the DIS and I love this forum; you're all great  !

First time I went to FW, I reserved an RV spot for tent camping. Once I saw it, I had them move me to the tent area. Much more scenic and woodslike in my opinion.

One Little Spark -

The little rolling areas (and I can only think of them around the meadows) are going to be nothing compared to up north! Most of the campground is flat as a pancake, and the buses do come often.

Thanks pmm0724, I was thinking it might be more scenic in the tent area, but as I've not visited since I was tiny (my father's been berating me for not remembering exactly what it looked like) and I've never stayed there, I've only got photos from the internet to go on.

Nbodyhome thank you so much for all the information, I feel a lot happier about staying in the tent area now. Gentle slopes I can manage no problem, it's just big hills I was a bit worried about.

Thanks again everyone :thumbsup2 !

Just a note, if you are in the 2000 loop, because of the way the sidewalks are laid out, it is kind of a roundabout way to get to the Marina area (you have to go backwards to go forward). It might be easiest to just hop on the bus to go to the marina from 2000. The bus goes on a back road not available to the public and goes directly there. There is a shortcut through the group camping area to the Meadows area, but would be quite difficult to navigate the wheelchair through that area.

I'll try and mark what I'm talking about on a map and scan it in and post it for you.

As promised. The area highlighted in blue is the sidewalk path you would need to take in your chair from Loop 2000. Although I didn't highlight it, as you can see the sidewalks from 1500 to either end of the campground are fairly straightforward.

I'm hoping to get us on 1500 so we're closer to the pool (with the jet lag and everything it's great to get up at 6ish and have an early morning swim before breakfast), but if we do end up on 2000 I'll bear that in mind.

1500 loop is a really nice central location - Meadows right across the street and over the bridge (which may actually be the biggest hill you will go over at FW), and relatively short distance to the Settlement. If you want to walk/wheel to the Outpost area, there is a nice path over there so you can avoid the roadway. I ride my bike to the kennels over there to walk FWdog.

Clkelley, thanks for the map, I think I'll do my best to avoid 2000 then. FWGuy, thanks for the recommendation. It looks like, if I'm camping, loop 1500 is the way to go :thumbsup2 .

Thanks again everyone!
