Does anyone here know someone with this disorder? I have an 8 year old DD with this disorder. She was diagnosed at age 6 by the state of wisconsin. She has been through some pretty severe trauma. I am currently a college student studying to be a police officer. In my written communications class we are doing a research paper and i have decided to do mine on this disorder. I just need some personal stories. I am pretty much done with my paper, but need some more personal stories to add in. There is not many statistics on this disorder. When i am done with the paper I will gladly post it for all to read.

any help is greatly appreciated! TY!

DID is the current moniker of what used to be known as multiple personality disorder. I saw a lot of this when I was in practice (now retired). It was commonly as a result of severe physical and/or sexual abuse. Unfortunately, I cannot share any real life stories as confidentiality applies, but you might want to look at research about multiple personality disorder as there is a great deal of research on it in the professional literature.

That is the first thing to do. Everyone always jumps to the worst possible scenario. Dissociative disorder is on a spectrum from normal to severe (multiple personality disorder). It is in fact believed by many to be a coping mechanism vs a DSMIII diagnosis. A kid who daydreams in class is dissociating from them environment, that would be the normal end of the spectrum. We all do it at times. When people have been through stressful events they learn to escape the stress by going within. Don't take your info from a board like this. Get the facts at a reliable source.
