I've used my DVC membership twice since purchasing via resale prior to the March changes.
At Aninal kingdom, i uses points to stay in a savana view. We assigned to 7721 in the last building in Kidani, had to walk alot, not close to transportation.
So I learned. Just stayed at yacht club because SSR had no rooms avail for dec2-4 ( slow season). Had to use 120 points for two nights. Requested that my 9 yr old and I were close to transportation. Room 4231 assigned. Far from transport again. Could this be due to DVC being purchased via resale? Ant other resale purchasers having similar problems?

Given that DVC runs close to 100% capacity it highly doubt resale has anything to do with it. It's just luck of the draw. They can only give so many people request that are close to transportation.

I doubt if the room assigners at the resorts are even aware of which guests have purchased resale vs direct. And you might well have had the same situation as a cash guest at any Disney resort.

The CMs who assign the rooms do try to fulfill requests, but sometimes it's just not possible. Especially since 'close to transportation' is an option on the online check-in form, I'd guess that a pretty significant percentage of guests checking in on any given day will request that. As Denise said, they can only put so many people close to transportation.

Remember that Yacht Club is a cash resort, so DVC doesn't really even come into play for room assignments there. Given the design of both Yacht Club and Beach Club, it seems there really are few, if any rooms, that I would call "Close to Transportation."

The same is probably pretty true of Kidani, no matter where you'd stay, there would seem to be few rooms that are really "convenient" to the transportation system. And "close to transportation" is pretty subjective and vague, depending upon resort layout. Add to that the high occupancy of DVC resorts (and really any point based timeshare system), and there are only so many rooms available on a given day. That is why DVC stresses a "request" is just a "request." They are not guaranteed at all.

I've never had an issue as a resale purchaser. I did quickly learn that the odds are much better when booking at the 11 month window and making a request at that time than the 7 month window. We also book calling DVC directly rather than making reservations online.

I have had more luck upon check in when you are chatting away with the cast member anyway. We stayed last month on points at the Port Orleans Riverside . We arrived after our 4 day Dream cruise so earlier in the day-probably mid morning. Not only was our room ready but the Cast Member moved us to a closer room then what was booked. I think timing and time of year play a big part of what you get. Good luck next time!

No, I don't think it has anything to do with being a resale purchase and is just the luck of the draw.

On our last trip we had most every one of our requests met at both BWV and VWL. BWV stay was on direct purchase points (not BWV points though) and VWL was resale. I made most of those requests a couple of weeks before the stay by calling MS. I don't think the room assigners look at the date a reservation was made either.

I've had trips that I haven't gotten any of my requests - again, just luck of the draw.

Even though Dec 2-4 requires fewer points to book, it is far from a "slow season" for DVC. It is extremely popular and most members book it 11 months out.

As for your room assignment in KV, someone will have to get that room. You just were the lucky one this time. If you had a car, you could have parked relatively close to your villa on the bottom level.

DVC used to have a policy of filling requests by date of reservation but I don't think that's in place anymore. It's really just luck of the draw and what's available on your check-in date.

We get our room request about 50% of the time. It doesn't seem to matter if you do online check in, ME, or if I physically check in at 7:00 AM.

It's all up to the room assigner and that days vacancies. Sometimes you get it, sometimes they are close, and sometimes you get the complete opposite of what you requested.

I have found out that not all of the room request info is passed on to the room assigners due to the DVC and CRO systems being different.

The main problem is everyone wants the same thing. Impossible to give it to everyone and it's mainly luck.

When I made my request for BWV standard view I asked to be far away from the elevator. The CM laughed and said that was not a request she heard very often!

I make a similar request every year at BWV seeking to be at the very far end of the hallway nearest to the Atlantic Dance Hall. Once we were about to be given grief about our having a room request on file when the reservationist looked down and re-read the request. Visibly relieved, she said ours would be an easy request to fill. :rotfl:

Thank you all for the unbiased posts. I've used my membership twice and came across what I thought was an issue. I spoke to my 9yr old DD Darla, and she simply put it best: "Dad, We actually stayed on Disney property. Thank you for buying Disney Vacation Club.".
I officially quit my complaining

I can't see being a resale member having anything to do with room assignments.I can feel your pain on what room you get.My family laughs and never unpacks because I get the room from hell every time.I get the service area view or the last room which you need a golf cart to get to.This july coming up Im staying in a standard BWV room so I don't get disappointed. We think the screen blinks red when I check -in so they give me the room nobody wants. In the Boardwalk alone I got room x002 thru x010 three stays in a row and thats next to or overlooking the trash so don't feel bad.

Smart girl. :thumbsup2

For our last cash stay and DVC stay we had bad room assignments. But someone has to. We've had other stays with great assignments, so hopefully it balances out in the end.

Last Jan I had myself and mom who was 79 then and they put us at the end. I then walked back and said I refuse to stay in that room and they must find something closer! Or I would be on the phone to MS. Amazingly a new room was found.

Very wise. We should listen to children more often. Waiting 45 min just to get into Hollywood Studious behind a giant group of Brazillians brought me to near breakdown levels of frustration and anger while all it did for my kids was add to the fun and suspense and excitement. :)

And what if everyone did that, as said, someone has to have the less than diserable room. :confused3
