Dissapointment in DVC

We specifically request those rooms adjacent housekeeping stations when visiting BWV. We love them as we are early risers ourselves and hope to protect neighbors whose headboard would otherwise back directly into ours from our early morning conversations. Those stations create a bit of privacy between guest occupied units.

If "early morning conversations" is code for something else, this is REALLY funny.

We had a really loud 1 bedroom villa at BWV a few years ago. It was on the 1st floor, directly behind the clown slide. We heard no noise from the pool, but we were woken up early each morning by the workmen pushing metal carts on the walking path to DHS, which was also right by our villa. I don't think it was luggage carts, we thought it was housekeeping or landscaping carts.

We were woken up around 5:00 am each morning, so the OP could have experienced something similar.

We did not complain, we just chalk it up to the fact that someone has to have the bad rooms, and it was our turn.

At BWV, the standard view rooms facing the driveway near the elevator can be noisy in early morning due to luggage being moved about.

Fortunately for me I can pretty much sleep through anything, including leaving the tv on all night. So, for me, this is a convenient room.
Also, rooms by elevators at BCV - I can hear the elevator but it doesn't bother me at all.

Now - put me in the HA room right across from the noisy BWV room near the driveway - which is garden view (when I've booked standard) and I'll be back at the desk in a minute. I need a bathtub. And I would never book a garden view at 11 months - if I want to spend more points I'll take boardwalk view (I usually do the weekends in BW view).

The other problem that I can't deal with is smoked in rooms. Still a problem.

At OKW, we're frequently awoken around 4:00-5:00 am by the groundskeepers at the golf course driving their carts all around. And like a PP here, we also like the rooms next to the housekeeping rooms since we're "early to bed, early to rise" type people. It's much preferable to the people who run in the hallways, yelling and screaming at midnite.

We live in a rural area, and therefore there is no noise around us at night. We have stayed at OKW (bus noise), AKV (pool noise), BWV (pool cleaning noise), and BCV's (pool cleaning noise, bus noise). The only time it was unbearable to us was when we were at BCV's and were give a room right where the buses going to the park drive along the road along with delivery trucks and cars. Honestly, even with the balcony doors closed and the TV on, we could still hear the bus engines and the announcements from the bus telling us how late MK was open that night. It didn't help that this was a time of year when MK EMH's were 3 am. We insisted to be moved and were granted our wish the next day. That particular stay was frought with problems; front desk calling our home phone 1400 miles away telling us our room was ready even though we had given them our cell number 3 times and having the same thing happen the next day when were moved to a new room after again giving them our cell phone number again. It was just not a nice way to start out a vacation. No compensation was offered or even something as little as candy on our pillow or something. We never got maid service at all that visit either (10 day stay).... had to take the garbage out myself, call down to front desk for dishwasher soap, towels, etc. Lights were blown in various sockets in the villa and some were even missing light bulbs.

I am all for having a new booking category added to avoid these types of issues. It is Disney after all and they should be more understanding to the needs of every member.

BTW- the point's charts just got considerably bigger to accommodate this new category

New Room category- not adjacent to any road, restaurant, lush greens requiring mowing, large trees that require pruning, swimming/play areas, service room, elevator, noisy children, loud drunk adults, people who stomp, golfers who call out "fore!" and guests that snore, snort, cackle, or are clumsy in any way..

That should do it.. ;)

You forgot the "early morning conversations." I've overheard some of those!

I just wonder what resort the OP is talking about? I've never seen housekeeping staff out and about around the the OKW campus at 4am.

And didn't just recently add several discounts for DVC Members...like 10% shopping?
That was my first thought as well. I have seldom seen any housekeeping staff around after 4/5pm. And early in the morning? Nope. I have watched them start coming in to work, but it's much later than 3am!!!
I have been awoken at BW when in a boardwalk view room very early (6ish) when the carts hit that wooden boardwalk!!!!
Otherwise, no noise from housekeeping, and we've had villas right next to their 'supply' rooms before.

Well, I didn't buy for perks, I bought into a timeshare. For the last 12 years, I've gotten clean, well appointed villas, and thankfully I've had little to nothing to complain about! DVC has met my expectations!

Perhaps DVC/Timeshares aren't for you or maybe you might want to try another resort next time!

OKW is the resort we stay at the most and thankfully this has never been an issue! I don't sleep much but after a full day at the parks and a glass of wine or two at dinner, the few hours that I do get in, I sleep like the dead!

Booking categories complicate reservations. Would you be OK with it if it meant you didn't get your reservation instead?

I've often wondered if Disney has a way of making notations on our accounts such as "didn't complain about noisy elevator room" or "didn't complain about being in Carousel section of SSR." As with the OP, we were assigned the same noisy room we'd had on a previous trip when we returned a few years later.

During one vacation, we were assigned a studio at BCV that shared a wall with the parking lot elevator. Every time the elevator ran, we could hear a loud humming in our room, and when the counterweight would go by our floor, our walls would shake. It was so absurd that we would laugh out loud almost every time. The first time it happened, I asked if we were on Candid Camera or something. We later decided that the room must be themed after the scenes in Mary Poppins where everyone positions themselves to catch things whenever the Commodore fires his canon.

We were doing a multiple-split stay that year, and were only going to be in that room for two nights. We decided not to say anything. Also, the use of the parking lot elevator really slacks off at night, so it really didn't disturb us while we were sleeping. The room had a huge balcony and an extra long hallway from the front door where we could store all the luggage, so the goods and bads balanced out.

A few trips later, we were back at BCV for another studio stay. Any guesses on which room they wanted to put us in? It just seemed to me that it was too much of a coincidence to actually be a conincidence. When the CM gave us our package, I recognized the room number and asked for a re-assignment before even leaving the desk. They happily granted it.

That's when I wondered if maybe our account had been annotated. On the other hand, that seems like some pretty complex software, and I'm not sure I'm willing to give Disney's IT department enough credit to think such a thing could actually exist.

Isn't "early morning conversations" the number one reason cited for members' purchases into DVC? ;)

I guess we are pretty lucky to never had the kinds of issues and complaints I read about on this site. Although one time we stayed at the GF and were awake by the MK train whistle. Oh the horror!

Seriously??? You request those rooms?? :confused3

We faced the quiet pool and heard this as well.very annoying. I live in SoCal and wake up daily to lawn mowers....was hoping to escape the sound of lsndscaping on vacation.

They also know sometimes when a room has a maintenance issue but they will leave the room in service. We had a bad refrigerator at BWV after a rehab and the Maintenance man told us that they knew that the unit had been reported before but they were told to wait and see if the new guest reported the problem. They know that some guests will complain about those rooms and their policy is to deal with the guest on a case by case basis.

Had that experience at a timeshare in AZ last summer. Booked the place for a dream price (after all, July in Phoenix) through hotels.com, and the first night we sat down to watch TV and the TV didn't work. Called down to Maintenance and they sent someone right up with a brand new flatscreen TV. They were slowly putting them in all the units, but only as the old TVs broke down and they were informed.

We got the new TV hooked up and we also had a fun conversation with a talkative and amusing maintenance guy. Nothing wrong with that!

I have never made a request and have always been happy with the room we got.

Believe the thread starter could well be a Troll but judging by replies there are plenty of rooms that are much less desirable at DVC.

We had issues with bus noise at OKW until 3am due to EMH and then greens being tended at 5am. I wouldnt say I am a light sleeper but I was seriously irritated after our 4 night stay. Having waited a long time to get our room after check-in (and why on earth wont Disney phone a mobile number registered in the UK to let us know when it was ready?) we couldnt be bothered to complain but has left a bad taste and I can't see me wanting to stay at OKW again.

There seems a lot of NIMBY attitude, obviously most of the DVC rooms are fine but when you are using a lot of points I think you have every right to moan when you arent happy. Look at BLT, enough complaints about the dreadful TPVs from some rooms and Disney did take action, I am a BLT owner so was affected by the change in points allocation but that was preferable to using extra points and looking at the underside of the monorail!
