Dissapointment in DVC

Which is why if you don't want those rooms you book a preferred view or something similar.

While I'd agree in principle, I think it would depend on specifics. I get the impression the poster was struggling with the suitcases and walked by bell services in view of them. IF this was the case in a more extreme situation, they should have at least asked. I would agree that not everyone who walks through with suitcases should be hounded by bell services. Certainly the poster could have marched up and asked but not everyone will be comfortable with that if they already feel like they're being avoided.

I'll add one group to your list of those that would prefer not to use them or at least a variation of the first one listed, those who have a problem with other people messing with their things. I don't want bell services, valet parking or maid services if I can reasonably avoid them. It's a personality quirk though not quite to the level of a neurosis. I can handle all if I need to but strongly prefer not to.
Dean, you sound like my DH. He does NOT want anyone else handling his things or parking his car.

Just wanted to say that there is a methodology to complaining. Remain calm, explain the problem clearly and why it is causing you an issue. Then make a reasonable request that would fix the problem for you and be open to alternative fixers. Treat the other person as you would like to be treated. May not always work but more often than not it will.

I agree totally with this statement. It really depends on how you handle the situation.

In a trip back in 2008, my wife, mother and twin boys had a two bedroom BCV for one week. After we checked in we found that they mistakenly put us in a lock-off room with only one bed in each room.

After talking with the CM we politely said the room we requested was for two queen beds in the second bedroom. The CM explained to us that all two bedrooms were taken. However, after few calls he upgraded us to the AKL grand villa.

That is right Disney went out of their way and gave us a grand villa at a different resort just to help us out.

That was an amazing thing and why I always tell people Disney DOES care about its guests. Plus we had an amazing CM helping us.

It's funny that folks will spend big money on a vacation and then begrudge a working person a tip for helping with luggage.

Very true. When Valet was free, it was very convenient, and worth the tips. Of course I would forget something or head right back out so the valets would do fairly well with me.

Going back to OP's complaint, I believe after getting the undesirable room the first time, if it was that important I would have inquired at checkin where my room is the second (and third) times to make sure I wasn't at the same location. It is a whole lot easier to have your room changed when you're standing at the front desk than after you've gone to the room. The only really undesirable room I've had is the dumpster room at VWL. Now I know to ask at checkin if we're close to elevator. That keeps us away from the dumpster view. As a fallback, I've even asked for 1st floor which would keep us from that view also.

What OP's complaint has to do with a reduction in perks beats the heck out of me. I've been very pleased with what we get from DVC, especially the new PAP and hopefully the free D23 membership. Not sure what else OP wants.

So happy to see so many calm, humorous, positive posts in this thread.

Just sitting here bemused, waiting for someone to call, "Troll alert!"

I'm going to do it, disneymaverick is a truck, um no....disneymaverick is a trout, um no.... disneymaverick is a trull, um no that is a real word........ Augh!

In reality, it can and probably has happened. We stay at BLT and need an accessible room and we always get one right next to the housekeeping closet. But except for the occasional bang they are pretty descent neighbors plus if the resort is full it is full... Disney tends to smooth things over with money so if this were true i would bet you would get some points back.

I actually have been pretty happy with DVCs actions during issues. I can't remember a single time i genuinely walked away mad. I guess we have been lucky. Or maybe the Contemporary just has a better staff and managers...

I had a garden view studio at BWV last April. My room was over the entrance to the pool between the Boardwalk and Wyland Galleries, so I could also see the Boardwalk if I looked to the left, from my balcony. It was a lovely view, on the same level as the lobby, and I loved the location. The downside was the deliveries every morning at 4am, outside, and the rolling carts. OMG, it was so loud! Nothing I could do about it though. If I had known ahead of time, I would have brought earplugs.

My opinion is not every trip can be perfect. Pretty amazing any vacation spot gets the amount positive reviews that dvc stays get.
I will not get into detail, as I did when we first came back form a trip that we experienced a bad room. Ours was a GV that had a mildew smell. Eventually, we got a different GV, same resort. But had to spend 1 night in a 2 bdrm. Points were adjusted appropriately. A hassle, yes. Ruin our trip or future trips, no. They also mailed us 6 FP's for a future trip as a gesture of good faith, which I thought was nice of them.

There are many things that are simply part of owning and using a timeshare. Things like construction, pool closed for refurbishment, not great view from a given unit, can't fulfill requests, get a HC unit etc are part of the risks accepted though one doesn't have to like it, it's just not reasonable to complain for items on this side of the ledger. OTOH, there are unacceptable situations. I'd put the mildew as one, with the NS situation, cigarette smell, unit not functional, etc. IMO, how early one booked or how much a special a trip is does not affect this issue from a technical or reasonableness standpoint though I do understand it affects the emotions involved.
