Disneyworld August Y/N?

It is hot but try to remember that by August most of the country is hot. You are a little more acclimated to dealing with heat by August so it is not quite as large a shock to your system. That is not saying that it is not a shock but your body is probably more accustomed to heat by that point in the year. We always went in late May and early June and would go from 60's and 70's to here in Central NC to 90's and 100's in FL. It killed us! We actually find it more bearable in late July as our bodies have become accustomed to 80's and 90's, so the 90's and 100's are not quite so unbearable. At least that's the way we look at it.

We have gone in August two times and this will be our third (8/9-8/16). Usually, we go later in August as others have said because of my work schedule. We didn't mind it. Yes, it was hot, but the lines were a lot shorter so you were in air conditioning a lot quicker lol. I'm not sure how it is around the time we are going this year (we are going for our 1 year anniversary on the 13th), but I'm sure it will be a little more crowded. Not much, just a little. Just allow yourself to take a break if you need it, go to the pool, drink lots of fluids, and I bring a little "ice pack" that normally doesn't last long but it helps in the beginning of the day. When we stay at DH's parents condo in Kissimmee, I put a washcloth in a sandwich bag and fill it with water. I put it in the freezer the night before so by morning its frozen. Like I said, it doesn't last long, but it helps in the beginning of the day. Hope you have fun!

We always have gone at the end of August. It is hot but bearable if you have a plan, stay hydrated and take a break every now and then.:)

I would not go in August. If I had to choose between August or not at all, I would choose not at all.

I'd rather wait until a time when I can go in a cooler time.

I've been there in May, and September. Even those months were too hot for me! Other trips have been in February and twice in November. Our next trip will be in February again.

As someone once said, I'd much rather be hot and miserable at Disney World, than hot and miserable at home! -couldn't agree more!

We're also going Aug25-Sept 2 to POR, & are already testing various misting fan brands to take with us! We're planning on rope drop arrivals, afternoon swims, then evenings in the parks. I'm trying to tell DH I'll have to do a lot of shopping just to be in air conditioning for DS6 and DD4! Not sure if he's buying it though :rolleyes1

LOVE IT!!!!!!!

We've been a number of times and miserable... never! We love it!:cloud9:

As others have said, if it's your only time you can go, then go, but I wouldn't recommend it. My folks went once for their anniversary in August and saw CM's literally dumping buckets of ice from a golf cart in to the pools, because it felt like bathwater.

We did it a couple years ago with some friends, and as a previous poster said, you can stand still and start sweating.

The best advice I can give is to go earllllly when the parks first open, hit the pools or the bed for a nap at midday, and get back out to the parks when it gets dark. It still won't be cool, but it won't be as unbearable after dark.

We go in August every year. It's hot but I don't mind at all. Crowds are thinner than most other times during the year, which is the most important thing to us.

We'll be at POR, same days, with DS8, and DD4!

Since my oldest granddaughter started middle school we had to change from Oct to Aug. Its hot but by the end of Aug when we go, we are used to the heat and its not such a big difference.
I can't wait:hourglass

Have a great vacation when ever you go:goodvibes

This will be our second time going to Disney in August. It is very warm but we take lots of breaks. During peak times we head over to the resort for a swim or a nao for the little ones.

It will be hot. Hot. HOT. That being said, the heat can contribute to thin crowds, even during free dining times, because I think many people don't go as hard in the parks/hang at the resort/pool more during the day.

This works out for us, with younger children, as they don't want to stay late, so we can get back early, and swim before bed. We try to swim at least twice a day while there anyway, we just try and also fit a down day or two in during our August trips, where we spend a day NOT at the parks, or leave the park at noon and spend the rest of the day at the pool.

We are going Aug 25-Sept 2, POR. Have a great time!

These are my dates too! Staying at Pop. We love August because of the low crowd levels. I make this even better by skipping EMH every days. We try for the outdoor rides early, do indoor rides during the hottest part of the day, make lots of use of your hotel pool - we swim every day. LOTS of sunscreen, and the heat is a great excuse for daily ice cream ;)

It will also rain almost every day, usually only for a short amount of time. If you have water-safe shoes, just keep swimming (not literally). The rain really makes crowds even thinner for a bit.

The worst part of a August trip to Disney for me... I tend to want to hurry the summer along just to get there :rolleyes1

Now that our kids are older (16 and 11) we don't take them out of school anymore so August is our month.

You can expect:

Heat
HUMIDITY
Rain
Very manageable crowds

You should:

Stay hydrated
Take breaks when necessary - swim, people watch, etc.
Stay hydrated
Bring ponchos or lightweight rain gear
Enjoy the waterpark(s)
Stay hydrated
Use Fastpasses

We keep our expectations on "normal" and are rarely disappointed.

We have been going in August for the past ten years. And I love it! Especially in late August when they still keep the late hours, but the crowds have thinned out. It makes for premium park time.

Here is how we do it without getting overheated:

1. Get to the parks early. Take a break at the resort mid-day during peak heat (swim, nap, recharge). Then go back to the parks in the evening once the sun starts to go down.

2. Try to alternate between indoor and outdoor attractions as much as possible.

3. Drink plenty of cold liquids. Water, Propel/Gatorade, etc.

Is it hotter than Hell there in August? You bet. But if you plan it right it is totally manageable.

We filled the camelbacs with ice and used those to keep cool during the August trips
