Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Just received this about our upcoming YC stay in August:

Yep, got the same for July trip. Normal work like this never bothers us, it's stuff that has to be done. Plus I got the email warning Stormalong Bay will be closed during our stay (1st week July) but I'm hoping they are just protecting their own interests as it was previously reported to be done in June. Fingers crossed!

Not overly worried, as we have a water view booked, and I assume the maintenance will be focused on the front of the resort. My only question is, if the porte chochere is closed........how will one enter the resort from the front?

Got the same email - everyone in our group (5 rooms reserved) got it. We are optimistic on the pool given we're there in mid July and did not get one regarding that. But this was unexpected. And VERY upsetting. It's our 50th wedding anniversary and the whole family (kids/spouses/grandkids) are all coming. Started planning this 7 years ago and I'm paying for all the rooms. Obviously not cheap. At our age this may well be our last time there. I don't expect perfection but why disrupt summer visitors so much?

As the email you posted indicated the porte cochere will be closed but you will be able to enter and exit via the front doors, and have access to all services. When they have redone the porte cochere at other resorts, they did the work in sections so the front entrance was always accessible.

Yes, I did read that part. I was just wondering how it would work. That's all. :)

When Dolphin was reworking theirs they skrimmed off sections of the area. The email implies full closure so one would expect the worst but because it also says everything will still function my expectation is it will be more like walking through a Disney work zone- noisy and impeded views, but clean and safe with well noted walkways through the area.

I feel so bad for you! That’s a lot of money for very upsetting. If it is that upsetting I would be on the phone to Disney today to find out if you can get 5 rooms at another resort. The sooner you get on this, the better. (If Disney can’t help and you are still upset give Swolphin a call at their in-house number and see if they have anything available. They have special rates for multi-room bookings sometimes by calling.)

As for why summer visitors- they gotta do it at some point and summer is a slower season now. Rough there wasn’t more notice.

We’ll have to see what all they need to close off for the work they’re doing - could be in more manageable chunks that allows for closer front door access, but the Convention Center has a bit of a Porte cochere of its own that could be put into use that isn’t “that far” away.

I'm working with an agent and we do have backup reservations at another resort - which we did because of the uncertainty of the pool. Thanks for your response - and I did suspect summer isn't as busy as it used to be.

We also have a backup resort booked, and by August, we are not worried about the pool, but this sounds like a bit of a mess. But ugh, that pool in August! It's hard to give up and we have a nice long trip (10 nights) planned so we can really enjoy it.....

Regarding the exterior work being done (from the email):

"In addition, the resorts are undergoing exterior maintenance. The ongoing enhancements may impact views from several places within the Resort hotel property."

This has been going on over at the Yacht Club side for a while now. Is it just painting or is it siding and / or roofing?

Do they not assign off the rooms where the scaffolding is? We requested a full balcony - it it possible it will effectively be unusable because they will be working right outside?

I realize they don't work at night but it's possible naps for the little kids (and this big kid too) ones will be challenging.

Got the same email today…does that impact bussing for MK and AK at all? We have never stayed at YC before so don’t know anything about the bus routes

We really don't have any additional details on other work on the front side of YC before, during the Porte Cochere work or after.

Here is the latest Note:

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will be undergoing routine exterior maintenance from early July through October 2025. During this time, the porte cocheres will be closed. While efforts will be made to minimize disruptions, construction may be noticeable during daytime hours. All services—including valet, luggage assistance, and transportation—will remain available, and most Resort amenities will continue to be offered. Additionally, Stormalong Bay and Shipwreck Pool will be closed for routine maintenance through June 2025.

They assigned rooms during the work on the siding / painting / roofing on the Crescent lake side. The balconies were available unless the workers were standing or working on your balcony. Yes even with all the scaffolding just outside.

Ouch. And still have to pay full price - no discount offered. Times 5 rooms. Happy 50th anniversary - it will break my families heart - especially the grandkids - but seriously considering cancelling the whole thing. I don't what this to be our last Disney memory. Had they told us this before today we would have rethought the whole trip. No one wants the Swan/Dolphin again (been there last 3 or 4 times) and we're not excited about the Boardwalk either yet we want the Epcot / HS area.

Sorry - just venting here. Saved up 25K for this and no one is excited anymore.
