Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

34 days!!!

At SAB, is it easy to find an inner tube not being used? I read that they are pretty much floating around the lazy river, up for grabs. Is that right?

Also, how crowded do the hot tubs usually get at SAB? I stayed at Coronado Springs last year, and the main pool's hot tub was packed! I doubt I'll need the hot tub much in late September, but you never know. :-)
We stayed at the YC last fall from Sept 24th to 28th and we usually had the lazy river to ourselves in the afternoons. The weather was sunny and hot but SAB was not crowded at all. It was the most time we ever spent at SAB. We usually prefer the quiet pools because they are quiet. ;) I don't have an answer for the hot tub question since we haven't used either of the two hot tubs at SAB.

Through a lot of these pages there were postings about parents dropping their kids off for college. My heart goes out to everyone in this situation. I am already starting to miss my son Nate, who will be a High School Senior this year. I know this year will go by in the blink of an eye:love::woohoo::welcome::cool1::welcome:

:goodvibes:confused:
That pic of the little boy was SO CUTE! Made me tear up, but the beautiful thing is watching our precious children develop into independent bright adults! :goodvibesAn amazing process and BEST of LUCK to all incoming freshman college students this year and to those continuing their college journey!:banana:To all of you "empty" nesters for the first time, hope that you can take that trip that you gave been dreaming about without the kiddos! Enjoy!:cool1:

Is there anywhere I can find out what products are in Deluxe resorts? (YC and Poly?) I think I've read on here that most people like the stuff, so I'm leaning towards leaving my stuff at home. My hair will be hideous in the humidity anyway so it doesn't really matter what I use! Shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion all in room?

Thanks! 6 days 'til paradise!

I just found it! Sounds like I'm all set.

I know you found your info but I wanted to tell you I absolutely LOVE H2O products for my hair! I have naturally curly(I'm Puerto Rican) and my hair does not frizz when I use it! I usually only wash(shampoo) once a week but I use conditioner everyday and I also leave it in. I have to get extra conditioner because my hair is long and so are my daughters, especially my oldest(hers is almost to her butt and it is like a horse mane with curls).

You will love the products!

We were! My older daughter said tonight that Epcot is her favorite resort, which makes me so happy, because it's mine, too. We've had a fabulous trip that is ending way too soon. .

I'm really hoping to get a magical deal for next summer, because as hot as it is here, i just love it.

I'm hoping at least my oldest daughter will say those words! I love EPCOT, it took me a while when I was younger to appreciate it! Don't get me wrong, I love MK, but EPCOT is amazing!!!

Tarak, I wanted to ask you(or anyone else that is at Disney right now),
How are the crowds right now in the parks?
I'm thinking maybe 2017 we will go at the end of August. I don't mind the heat/humidity(more time to swim), but I hate long waits! I would love to be at Disney right before I go back to work for the school year, oh yeah I'm sure the kids would love it too.:rotfl:

Thanks, Sue! That's exactly the time frame we will be there. Woohoo!!!

I always hear people complain or comment their hair is bad in FL...am I the only one looking forward to how much fuller, thicker and wavy my very fine way too soft limp straight hair looks when down there?

It is totally fantastic! My hair is very long and straight as an arrow, and has no body or volume without lots of hair products. In FL, I literally just brush it and it turns into vava voom thick hair! I notice it right after a shower and it is not the shampoo! I am crazy but I am looking forward to less time making my hair look good! LOL!

About the characters not talking... Ninja Mom has been known to tell her children that Mickey and pals were out late last night drinking at the bar and they have really bad headaches so it's better that they not talk at all lest they open their mouths and a hideous morning breath seeps out and gasses unsuspecting children into unconsciousness.

Since my brother has threatened to have me arrested if I provide that explanation to HIS children I tell them that Mickey and the gang have to rest their voice since they are constantly singing and shouting to the audience during the stage shows and parades. When we went to see Talking Mickey in the MK, the first thing that I said when I introduced him to my Nephew was that I was glad he was able to talk now that his voice was rested from all the shows. Mickey was affirming this by saying Yes, yes and my Nephew's eyeballs POPPED out of his head. This is the same child who believes that we can catch the golf ball on Soarin while his younger sister rolls her eyeballs and sighs at us.

I'm also Puerto Rican with curly hair. I'm bringing my own products but I'm definitely going to try out the h2o products while there.

We did the end of August in 2011 and crowds were really low. We are leaving Wednesday and staying until 9/5. We are hoping for low crowds again.

We will be staying at the YC in December- do they still have Bounce Back offers at that time for 2016? Is the BB offer the same or better then the AP discounts?

Hey All, I've been quietly lurking and liking posts as our trip gets closer. I finally get to say we will be at the Yacht club Saturday!!

Quick question....We will be doing a water park for the first time. Can I borrow towels from the resort pool to take with us? I don't want to waste luggage space with towels if I can help it. THANKS!!

We are staying at the Beach Club October 9-13th, we are so excited. I am curious about some of the "perks" of staying deluxe. We have mainly stayed at moderates, and Pop Century. We did stay at Wilderness Lodge, back in January 2005.

Does the Beach Club do a nightly turndown service? What time do they do this?

Anything else we should expect?

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

:cool1:

Good question about the perks of Deluxe. I have only stayed at Values (AS Music and AS Movies) and the Beach Club. One of the things I have heard mentioned is that the values do not have covered bus stops at the resort.

Subsequent posts in this thread talk about turndown service. It is standard for the club level rooms, but may be done upon request for other rooms at the Yacht & Beach Club, if the mousekeepers have the time. And now that they are no longer leaving towel animal/creations, there should be plenty of time, right?

;)

I just watched the DIS Unplugged episode on the BC and the YC. These two resorts are on my wish list for next year, but I am concerned after watching. Are the food choices really that bad at the market place and Hurricane Hannas, Cape May, Beaches and Cream also the YC? I have stayed at two deluxe resorts and while I think that the food courts are better at the moderates the Poly and the WL were still good. Am I crazy to question staying at either the BC or YC on the bases of this Dis Unplugged episode?

:welcome: to this thread.

The Beach Club Marketplace definitely is not on par with the food courts at other resorts, but I have always found it to have adequate selections for breakfast. Pastries, yogurt parfaits, breakfast sandwiches. We don't usually use the resort quick serve places for lunch since we are always at a park or at dinner because that is usually a sit-down meal for us.

I do wish they had Mickey waffles at the Marketplace, though. That would be a great addition.

Do you have a trip booked? Please let us know if you would like to be added to the Be Our Guest list.

Just wanting to join the group. We will be staying at BC in January. My DH was one of the winners of the Disney FlipSide contest. We will be at the BC January 19-27 with 1 night at the castle suite on 22. Thanks for all the great info here.

:welcome: and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

What a fantastic prize!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list.

Do you mind if a few of us come for a visit on Jan 22?

Hi,

I am just in the beginning stages of considering our next visit to WDW. I have been to BWV once (17 years ago) and Dolphin once (10 years ago with infant). We have not been back to the Epcot resort area because the kids were tiny, and we placed a heavy emphasis on MK. Flash forward - DDs will be 8 and 11 next summer. Our trip will likely be short (4 nights), with a focus on Epcot, lots of resort time (or maybe TL if we don't have SAB), and maybe a side trip to Tampa for a day (to see Winter the dolphin). In 2013 we did an awesome mom-and-girls weekend to end the summer at WL (explored FW, WL and MK) and it was perfect. They asked to do it again, but this time they want Epcot.

I'd like your clarification on a few things:
1) Based on past experience, would you expect standard and garden view rooms to have a 30% off offer for summer (released sometime in the spring)? Since we always do WL or mods, I am not sure about what discounts YC/BC usually offers. A discount is what would put this in reach for us. If not 30%, what would be your best guess?
2) Would you consider a split stay between S/D and YC/BC? We have Starwood points to stay at S/D which makes spending the $$$ on BC (normally out of our budget) not really appealing. But I have this bright idea that 1 or 2 nights at BC would be worth it for SAB and EPCOT entrance if we are on points for the rest of our stay. I need pros and cons on this. I'm not sure how I feel about checkout and checkin disrupting our stay.
3) Can't decide whether BC should be first or last. First gets me help around baggage claim, b/c we would use ME (I'll likely be traveling without DH). Last saves the best for last, and we don't have to tear ourselves away from the magic.

I'm sure I have other questions, esp re: SAB, but I'll read back through some pages. Thanks for maintaining a great thread!

:welcome: to this thread.

There are a lot of pictures and tons of info about Stormalong Bay on Page 1 of this thread, Post 2 and Post 3.

You have some interesting options for your upcoming trip. I don't really have anything to add to suggestions and opinions others have offered. Just that you will have full access to Stormalong Bay, and any other resort amenities, on the day you check in and the day you check out. So if you book 1 night you can have 2 days of BC fun or if you book 2 nights you can have 3. And since your other resort will be the Swalfin, it will not take much time to get between the two places.

Please let us know what you decide to do.

:goodvibes:

We got a picture! Still catching up on thread but if I don't see one we will post it if I can figure out how to again. Although I'm not sure it is the same. Our Ally was ther for most of our trips but we heard rumors it had been removed.

Someone did post a picture of an alligator recently but one can't have too many alligator pictures!

Last night on the dis Facebook page someone posted pictures of a gator and a snapping turtle in the BCV canal.

:thumbsup2

only 296 days until we're back home at the BC!! :worship: and :sad2:...

this will be a 4 year gap since our last trip and can't wait to be back!!

I shall pass the time reading about everyone's trips!!

thanks again for the fabulous (and informational) thread!! :worship:

:welcome: back!

We never pack towels when we go to the water parks. You can take them from the resort and I believe there are bins right at the water park where you can return the towels rather than bringing them back to the resort. ENJOY!:goodvibes

Best Aunt ever! i'd be happy to have you provide either of those explanations to my kid. :)

Really??? That's incredible, but sounds a little too good to be true. Not doubting the veracity of your experience, just don't want to be charged by the hotel for "taking/loosing" a towel. LOL.

If you take them from the pool area, it shouldn't be a problem. I don't think they track who takes towels or how many. I'm not sure if you are supposed to keep them in the pool area or not, but I'm sure people bring them back to their rooms.

I have never been to quiet pools at the resort. Are towels out for guest use there, too?

Yes at the YC there are towels at the quiet pool.

Yes, there are towels at the quiet pools as well. We actually have found taking the towels from the quiet pools to the water parks the easiest instead of trekking down to SAB. Of course, dependent on room location. Sounds like we need to go on a quiet pool field trip next weekend. :goodvibes

We have done this many times in the past. Works out great. No need to bring towels from home or rent from water park. :thumbsup2

Plenty of towels out at the BC and BCV quiet pools :)

We just returned from our 1st stay at at the YC. We were there from 8/15-8/22. Just as some background we have been to wdw many, many times over the years & have stayed at a good number of Disney resorts, but we stay at the moderate level most of the time. In fact the only Deluxe level resort we've stayed at is the Grand Floridian & that was on our honeymoon 23 yrs ago. So we were quite excited to finally be staying at the YC. These past few months I have read & enjoyed this thread every day, though I do have to say that it somewhat set us up to be disappointed since everyone here is so in love with the Y&BC resorts, lol. There is no one who is a bigger lover of all things Disney than me, but I do tell it like it is even when it cones to my favorite place, wdw.

I would just like to share our experience with the whole no a/c issue that occurred at the resort last Sat. 8/15. We checked in about 7 pm after a lovely ride on Mag. Express with the friendliest driver we ever had. Dropoff order for ME was YC, BC, Boardwalk & CBR. It dropped off at Convention Ctr. due to construction at bus stop area. We walked through convention Ctr & into side entrance of YC, were met by a lovely cm who escorted us to a concierge cm to check us in since reg check in CMs were all busy. We chatted with this first cm about the horrible rainstorm that was taking place, yet surprisingly she mentioned nothing about the a/c not working. We did notice that it didn't feel cool in the lobby, but just thought oh maybe it's us. The cm proceeded to check us in & did not mention one word about the fact that the air conditioning was not working AT ALL at the Y&BC. Sorry, but that was the time when we should have been informed of that fact. Also, when I asked him if our room was located near an elevator since that was a room request I had made, he took out the famous room map, held it close to his chest so I couldn't see it, which was quite comical, spent what seemed like an eternity looking for the room on the map, & then said, " yes, when you get off the elevator, the room is right there". Well "right there" apparently means something different in his world because to get to our room, we made a right turn off the elevator, walked down a seemingly endless hallway, made a left down another long hallway, then another right and finally arrived at our room. We were laughing at this point, but I really didn't appreciate the cm blatantly lieing to me about my room location. No pixie dust, I booked a std. view & that's what we received, so not complaining about that. We kept commenting to each other about how hot it was in the room & hallways and couldn't figure out what was going on, since so far no cm had said anything to us about it.

Went to Crew's Cup Lounge for dinner & it was sweltering in there, not exaggerating. We ate at the bar, since the Crew's Cup is "seat yourself" & there were no tables available at the time. We were served by a super friendly CM who was literally sweating as she filled drink orders & our dinner order. My dh finally asked her what was wrong with the a/c & she told us the a/c units were hit by lightning & there hasn't been air conditioning for hours. Finally a tiny piece of info! We sweated through our meal, which was very good, left the cm a big tip since I felt terrible that she was busting her butt in that heat, walked around the inside of resorts, then went back to our room. When we decided to wash up & go to bed is when we discovered there was no hot water, lovely. Anyway, the a/c came back on during the night & we had hot water in the am. Not a horrible experience, but we definitely should have been informed by the staff.

Then when I read from a few posters on here the next day that they were offered free food & beverages at the Boardwalk resort, I got angry because again, we were not informed. Another poster said she got a credit for the night's stay, but only because she asked. Again, would have been nice for all guests to be informed & treated the same. & no, we did not voice our concerns to the front desk, which I know we should have. Will be sending an email to Mgr though, just so she is aware. It also annoyed me that people on this thread just automatically praised Disney for how they handled the a/c issue based on what one poster said. Just wanted to let you know of our checkin night experience. Will share other details of our visit after I catch up on some laundry lol. Sorry this ended up being so long.
