Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

We just back to the resort from Epcot! We were thinking about heading down to SAB but we are beat from the sun and rain all morning. Enjoy your dinner!

Just a note, the stairs only go to the third floor, so if you're staying on the fourth floor you have to do a lot of zig zagging. Couple options:
- go in the secret entrance, take the stairs to the third floor, when you get to the T in the hallway that says elevators to the left, go right. The stairs will be at the end of that hall to go up to the fourth floor.
- if you pass the secret door outside, there's a second door (which is where we come out when we take the stairs down from the fourth floor,) but we haven't been able to get our MBs to let us in from the outside.

We weren't able to get our MB to open that 2nd door either (our MB were a bit wonky at BC) sometimes one wouldn't work at the "usual" secret door either, and my son's charging privilege's stopped working on day 2...

My kids thought I was supermom for knowing the "secret" way back to our room when we came back from Epcot...

That second secret door is next to room 1530. We used that one all the time because it is less zigzagging through the hallways.

Those door sensors can be touchy. I discovered that you had to hold your Mickey head down near the bottom of the touch pad for some of them. I almost didn't get back into the YC one morning until I discovered that trick. :)

Narebenma, thanks for the warm welcome! :)

We do split trips when we visit DW, hence my board name. It's our 35th Anniversary, but since it falls on Thanksgiving this year we'll be coming down early to celebrate. Nov 8th-12th we're booked at the Yacht Club. Debating on whether to switch over to BC since I'm worried they may be renovating Yacht by then. Haven't heard much about YC so I'm holding off so far. Husband likes to sleep in a little on vacation and was annoyed when he couldn't do so during another resort renovation. Don't want a repeat of part time grumpy. lol Second resort we'll be staying is Contemporary. This is the first time we're staying in the BC/YC area. Everyone has me excited since they seem to like it so much and it looks beautiful.

Catho72 & SRUAimn have fantastic trips. SRUA, thank you for the photos you posted. Looks lovely!

Edit: Contemporary stay is Nov 12th-16th.
Just noticed there's only one T in my Splitter name. Oh well. Could be worse, could say Spitter. haha

That's funny! I actually found that other secret entrance when I stayed last August (I had a room on the 4th floor). But I really, really stink at directions, so I haven't attempted to describe where this is or how to use it. I did take a couple of pictures, though. It lets you out in between BCV and BC, right?

That's actually a different door than the one we used. It's about 10 rooms past the original secret door!

I also know some were commenting on bus experiences so I thought I'd share our experiences so far. It's been nice to not have had to use them much :)

Magic Kingdom - Sunday evening around 5:30. Bus had just left when we got to the bus stop. Another one came within 10 minutes. 15 minute ride, no other stops, bus was fairly empty.
Return trip to BC- 10:15 pm - bus arrived as soon as we got to the MK depot. Stopped at YC and then BC.

Animal Kingdom - Tuesday around 9:30am. Bus went to BB and then to AK. Total trip was a little over 20 minutes and was about half full when it arrived from the YC. We waited almost 30 minutes for it to arrive.
Return trip - 2:00 pm - bus arrived within 10 minutes, stopped at BB on the way back, YC, then BC.

Hi there!! DD starts her DCP in August, so we are taking Autotrain with her car, staying at POFQ for a week so we can be available for shopping trips and moving in etc, then flying home. DH told me to add the weekend, since it is my birthday, so we decided to try the Yacht Club for two nights. We've always stayed at the Dolphin or POFQ, so we don't know what to expect at the Yacht Club. Any suggestions? :-)

My oldest daughter just came back from her DCP!!! She LOVED it. She even extended it to stay longer! Your daughter will have such a great time and will make some of the best friends!!!

YC and BC are both awesome resorts!! We all talk here about loving to see pics, but it TRULY feels like being home when pics are posted!! Enjoy your trip, and tell your daughter to enjoy every min. of her DCP.

I feel like as I get closer (63 days), I'm starting to forget the basics of what I need to do. Can someone remind me at what point I would put in room requests and what number I call to do so? I'm in a garden view room and am hoping for something near the secret entrance side. What's the best way to word that? Perhaps near the quiet pool? Thanks in advance!

Truly tragic. I can't imagine. Why would people post their thoughts about blame ever, at all, or on a public forum?

I honestly don't know. It's one of the reasons I have a love/hate relationship with the boards here. I love the resorts side of things. There generally seems to be a lot less drama (at least in the resort-specific threads). And I adore this thread and all who post here. But when something bad happens, there are so many people who immediately jump on the bandwagon of "where were the parents? I leash my children to me at all times, so it has to be the fault of the parents." Honestly, one lady in the thread posted she would never allow her three-year-old to walk down a flight of stairs. Am I crazy free-range because I let mine climb up and down the stairs as soon as they were able?

DisneyMomx7 is so right - it can happen in a flash even when you're watching. My son and oldest daughter were out in the water together (we were at the beach). The second I thought they were going out too far, I waded out to tell them to come back. In that instant, Amara started screaming for help because her baby brother started struggling. I started out to them, got swamped by a wave from the side because I know squat about saving someone from the waves, apparently, and a total stranger from the beach came flying by me, followed by my husband. Everyone was fine, but Amara came back to the beach sobbing that she'd almost killed her baby brother. She said the worst part of it was having him ask her for help and she wasn't able to grab him. Are we bad parents? I don't know. I don't think so. But we could have been those parents at AOA and I can guarantee no one would have blamed us more than ourselves. I just don't get the need to assign blame to people who most likely are already doing that job for them, whether it's warranted or not.

Hmmm. I would consider sharing a meal, but I didn't think we could. The dinner and lunch menus just don't appeal to us, but I think it would be neat to have a meal there.

We'll probably order two meals and share with the toddler - she won't eat that much. I plan to get the egg sandwich and I think Amara is getting the puff pastry with the eggs and spinach. She won't eat the ham, so we'll give that to Aria along with the fruit from my dish. We're also staying CL that part of our trip, so I know we'll have had something earlier in the morning to tide her over. There is no way we'd get to the park without feeding her something first. Plus - nespresso machine in the club lounge has become one of my disney "must dos."

I caved and bought packing cubes

I did, too. They were on sale and I got 12% back from ebates. I'm telling myself they are a good purchase because we're having a split stay and we can pack half our clothes in one cube and just leave the ones we won't use in the suitcases. Not sure it's going to work out quite that way, though.

We are 3 Disney adults, so that's why I was wondering if we would have to order 3 meals. I don't think you'd have any problem not ordering for a toddler. We are also staying CL, so would be going more for the experience than the food (not huge breakfast eaters in the first place). We could easily make do with one meal, but I'd be happy getting 2. 3 would be such a waste of food it just wouldn't be ok with me. Since we have time before our trip I'll start reading about the breakfast on the restaurant board... hopefully I'll know for sure before we go. :)

I think a part of this is people needing to resolve the scenario in their minds as impossible to happen to them, rather than come to terms with the fact that accidents can and do happen to anyone. Its shocking to me that any fellow parent of a toddler could be that out of touch to not understand easily a 3 yo could run off or get separated....this one is hitting home for me as I have my own 3 yo son. And please, with the people saying "get kids swim lessons" -- I am fighting a battle to get him to go in with swimmies, and he goes every week to the Y for swim lessons and its sometimes good and sometimes not as easy with his cooperation. He's very nervous. Every kid is different and it is not as black and white as people may want to think.

If you MAY go, you should make a reservation if you can find it. They are hard to find. You can cancel no penalty up to the day before.

Tarak- you are so right. It can happen in an instant. We had so any adults watching the pool at our party and I truly believe it was a miracle that my son saw the boy at the bottom of the pool and pulled him up. It wS a "blind spot" from the sun. It wS a miracle that s cardiac care nurse was there to start CPR. HE HAD NO PULSE AND WAS BARELY BREATHING. It was a miracle that after being in a coma for 24 hours we woke up without any long lasting damage

We know how easily it could have gone the other way. The police detective kept telling us - you did everything right but accidents happen every day. Still. DH sand I felt like we were ready for a breakdown from the guilt

I wonder with all those assigning blame, didn't they ever lose track of their child for a few heart pounding minutes?

So I am going in December, and I have an offer for a very cheap room in the Yacht Club. Should I be worried about construction?

I'm grateful to hear a happy ending story...although I know it will always be traumatic for you.

Accidents do happen. My mom lost two of her best friends as a child, in different accidents.

When she was about 5, her friend was over playing, her mom called her for dinner, it was the house diagonally across the street. Both moms were standing in the doorways watching, she went out, got to the street, lighting hit her and she died.

When she was 15, caption of the swim team and diving team. Her best friend and her took 3 others out in a canoe. Her best friend was co caption of the boys swim team so they both new how to swim. The canoe tipped over, this was years before life jackets were required. The three other kids could not swim good. My mom grabbed the one who was struggling the most and went for shore, her best friend was helping the other two. My mom went back out and helped one and her friend was helping the other. Mom kept swimming. The one struggling with her friend was able to stand up. Everyone thought everything was fine, when mom got to shore the second time she looked around and asked where's mike, everyone said he was just right there. Mom tried for 15 minutes to find him before she could, the others had called 911, but by the time she found him and they came it was to late. Mike, co caption of the swim team died, swimming in water. Why, he had an asthma attack and could not catch his breath, but no one was paying attention to him because everyone was trying to save the three struggling swimmers.

SV or GV or WV? CL? If GV, go with "gazebo view" and you won't regret it. Otherwise, may I suggest lots of down time at SAB and enjoy the resort. Be sure to have one or two "Sunken Treasuer" drinks to celebrate your birthday. Get over to the BW at night and enjoy the street activities. Have your daughter stop by and go over and play some miniture golf at the course just an easy walk on the other side of the Swan. Have a great, relaxing weekend. Your daughter will have a great experience. Something she can add to her resume for years to come.
Any reason(s) to pay $100 more for a standard room @ BC over YC?
No reason to do this as far as I know unless you want to be a few minutes closer to Epcot or the Marketplace.
So I am going in December, and I have an offer for a very cheap room in the Yacht Club. Should I be worried about construction?
I'd love to know the same thing. Going in November.
Keep checking page one of the thread. the renovations are scheduled to start some time in September and best guess is that the CL floor (5th floor) is first to get worked on. It will move down from there but this resort building is really spread out (check out the resort map on page one of the thread) so if you are near the construction and it is a problem for you, discuss it with the manager on duty and see if you can be relocated for the remainder of your stay. Enjoy the YC. It's a great place to call home.
