:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1.

:cool1:

The YC room refurb has been pushed back several times. Latest chatter is that the work will start in November, but that has not been announced by the resort. IF they start in November of this year, I think most, if not all, of the room will be completed by the time of your trip.

::yes::

:goodvibes

Thank you for responding. It's IF they start in November though isn't it. I'm tempted to switch just incase as I don't want to leave it until the BC doesn't have any availability at the same rate. We've stayed at the YC before but not the BC. The new rooms at the BC look lovely too.

Eeek. Decisions :hyper2:

Well it's official! WE'RE COMING HOME! We just booked our next Disney Adventure, getting a 2BR villa at our home resort, BCV! We'll be there from 5/22/17 to 5/27/17. Total case of wanting more points, but it's not in the cards for the immediate future. It'll be our first trip as parents, as we are expecting our Disney Princess to be joining our family at the end of this summer. This is also the first year that my wife and I have not gone to Disney since we started dating, but the birth of our daughter IS about the only thing that would prevent us from hopping on a plane right now (My wife is banned from travelling now....believe me, I thought about a solo trip, but I do want to live and my wife would literally shoot me if I did!) Totally excited! A couple of questions for this wonderful group of people...

1. Joining us on this trip will be my wife's family, including her Mom and Dad, her brother and his family (wife and two kids, ages 5 and 9 mos.), and her sister and husband. More may join, who knows? I would like to keep our group together as much as possible, but obviously I can't fit everyone in our villa. I thought about renting points from David's,but just how flexible can they be? As a DVC member myself, I know how difficult it can be to change dates and other things around, but I know the ramifications using my own points. What worries me is the cash layout for my wife's family, especially in light of the fact that we still aren't sure of the size of our party with the exception of ourselves. Should we just reserve rooms in the main hotel knowing we can adjust to the variables? Thoughts??

2. As is our usual custom, my wife and I always like to stay at a different resort before our DVC stay to just unwind and truly relax before the madness of going to the parks daily sets in. These days are usually spent playing golf (me), hitting the spa (my wife), lounging by the pool and heading to Disney Springs for a nice meal and some shopping. Now with a 9 month old in tow, we may have to adjust things somewhat, but we still would like to essentially relax on that weekend before. If you look below you'll see where we've stayed in previous years, but I'm open to suggestions. I'm leaning to our old reliable, Port Orleans Riverside, due to costs savings plus boat access to Disney Springs (We used to stay out late night staying here, but that's not happening in the immediate future!), but we are looking to knock off another hotel off our Disney list of stays and thinking about the Yacht Club. We've never stayed since we own at BCV, but would it be enough of a difference from the Beach Club that we would experience another different adventure staying there?

3. Last, but certainly not least, as new parents we are beyond excited to begin sharing our love of WDW with our daughter (even if she is too young to remember right now), but any tips staying at BCV and the parks in general when caring for an infant would be greatly appreciated. I pretty much know all of the tips and strategies that most WDW vets have, but I must admit, I don't know all of the little tips and intricacies that one needs to be aware of when going to WDW with children. A little nervous, help a new father relax!

Been waiting along time to say this, but put us on the Be Our Guest List!

We have stayed in a 2 BR villa at BCV and had additional family members stay in a regular resort room at the BC and it worked out fine. There was also a group that stayed at CBR and they drove over every day to meet up at the villa. Families traveling together need a little time to themselves. So it worked out well to have the villa be the main meeting place.

The Yacht Club would be a nice place to stay because it has a balcony that you and your wife can relax on while the baby sleeps. :) We stayed at POR in a preferred room earlier this month and really liked that resort.

A nine month old is a good age to travel since they are big enough to sit in the high chairs but young enough to fall asleep in strollers. My only suggestion is the bring a stroller that is easy to fold and carry around. I've seen a lot of fathers struggling with huge strollers on the buses.

My only thought there is they do have them in the villas so I am thinking you would be okay?
I thought of this too when reading Dee's post above. However, the BCV is set up in a "kitchen" format where the toaster is sitting on a surface meant for this type of kitchen appliance. Not really sure the room at the resort has similar accommodations. I guess I am in the camp that doesn't want a roommate above, below or beside me that could have something that just might set off that alarm. It's never easy, is it?

Toasters and Microwaves

Just when the Marketplace is open.

As I mentioned in a previous post, you can request a microwave for your room which will be provided free of charge subject to availability.

:thumbsup2

Thanks for the reply. Just a bit concerned about the "subject to availability" part.

Hoping to stay on track with lifestyle changes while at Disney. Being able to make my standard breakfast after a way too early in the morning workout will make fitting in treats later in the day easier.

1) Bus from resort to MK- you should be able to get one that will arrive at MK in time
2) Uber or Taxi- note, they can only take you to the TTC, so you will have to take the ferry or monorail from there, adding time. You could ask to be dropped off at the Contemporary and walk from there (about 10 minutes) but I have heard that lately they have given people a hard time about pulling into the resort if you don't have a reservation at the CR.

:car:
:goodvibes

Is getting an uber from YC to GF and then jumping on the monorail faster than getting dropped off at TTC and taking the ferry? Anyone know if they're just as hard on guests getting dropped off there as they are at CR? We also have a PPO ADR (8:10 at BOG), and I'm still weighing up options on getting to the park...

I don't think there is any way to know which will be quicker- the answer changes depending upon how long you have to wait for the monorail vs. how long you have to wait for the ferry.

I think anyone who is out at the bus stop by 6:45, and as late as 7, will have no problem getting to the MK in plenty of time.

Hopefully the new bus boards can help determine when the early morning buses will arrive.

The ride from the BC stop to the MK bus stop is 15 minutes.

I plan on using the bus for my PPO breakfast in October.

:welcome:

No toasters in the room. There are toasters for guest use in the Marketplace, but I can understand being concerned with using them with your son's allergies. I honestly don't know what the rules or suggestions are about bringing your own toaster.

Pinkgirl raises a good point about the smoke detectors. Toasters may also be considered a fire hazard if left plugged in. I'll see if I can get some info about whether it is permissible for guests to BYOT.

Would a microwave help with your breakfast options? (See above)

:thumbsup2

Thank you for the welcome! We usually stay in a villa (never at BC though...super excited!!!!!!!) so I am used to having both a toaster and a microwave. A microwave might be fine so I will start thinking through those food options.

I saw on Tikiman's FB page that pool hours for the Lava Pool at the Poly are now 9am-11pm. Can anyone confirm if SAB has extended the hours until 11pm? Also, has anyone gotten the July recreation calendar yet?

Thanks for the heads up!!!

We probably won't have the July calendar until Friday, unless someone staying club level in July has it emailed to them earlier than that.

::yes::

I have been spiffing up Post 12 (Club Level) a bit this morning. I just learned there is a toaster backstage that is used exclusively for gluten-free items. The CMs will toast your items for you before they are brought out to you if you ask.

Not sure if there is something similar for people with nut or other allergies. I'll check.

I came across this list of amenities that is somewhat outdated. Can anyone help with the comments I have highlighted? This list actually applies to all Disney club levels, not just Y&BC

Wow! I did not know this! For years I have been upset that DVC at the BC (our favorite resort) did not accommodate 5 in a 1 BR or studio. I might have to re-think the idea of DVC now.
Also can we be added to the list? Our dates are BC 8/15-8/23. So excited !!!
I know that they have added on the single murphy for the studio, however with the 1 bed you have to provide your own bedding for the 5th person...we have an air mattress for the kids :)

Hello All! My family will be arriving at the BC in mid August. What is the best way to go about trying to make sure we have a full balcony? I do know that not all of the BC rooms come with a balcony. I have heard about faxing requests. If this is the best way is there a specific number we should fax our request to? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, thank you! I am thinking of buying a small toaster and bringing it if that is allowed. We typically stay in a DVC suite with a full kitchen. My ds has allergies and it's just so much easier to cook in the room. Anyone know if that is allowed? If not, we will figure something else out. Thanks.

So, everyone, I checked with 3 different CMs that I know, including a manager. This was the first time they were asked this question, but none of them were aware of any rules or policies prohibiting a guest from bringing and using a toaster in their resort room. The comment that was used here, "there are toasters in the villas" was also mentioned.

So, as far as we know, it is ok to bring a toaster. I would recommend leaving it unplugged while you are away, and try to make sure you are not burning anything while using it.

Have a great trip!

Wow, thank you so much for asking for me!! I appreciate that. I will definitely unplug when we leave and be careful about burning. I will probably try to use it as close to the open balcony door as I possibly can lol!

There is no way to insure that you have a full balcony at the Beach Club. It is a request and only a request. About 50% of the rooms have them. Your best bet is to call the main Disney reservation line and ask that this request be added to your reservation. If it is really important to you make it your only request, or at the very least your first request.
If you do not get one on check in you can ask if you can move during your stay if one becomes available and you wish to move.
The only way to be sure of a balcony is to book at the YC where all (but one) rooms have balconies.
