Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

I've read in a few places that they are removing all clocks from Disney Hotel rooms and that you now have to request one. What's that all about!

What you read is true. From their research/surveys 89% of WDW guests use their phones as their alarm clock. They will be removing the clocks and installing a USB charging hub in those rooms that have not been refurbed recently.

I read in the DVC forum that they are not even available upon request

We just got back from the BC CL and had to request a clock- it took 2 days to get it but we finally got it.

I had issues with my phone, so I'm glad we had a clock for the early morning reservations!!

Well then, I guess buying that mini power strip is still an ok idea but that works for charging some of out stuff, and just so odd to know we leave so soon.

Really? I use the clock to tell the time. I like to turn off the cell phones at night so nothing wakes me. Why would they remove the clocks when they can just leave them until they break, then take them out. :crazy2:

If you are staying at the BC- I found that there were plugs everywhere!!! the desk had 3, the dresser with the TV had 6 (3 on each side on the bottom below the TV). There was 2 on each of the nightstands. I always bring a plug strip too, but didn't need it on this vacation.

I though it odd that there was no clock, I thought that it broken and that they didn't get around to replacing it.
I usually shut my phone off too, so that all the notification dings (facebook, email...) don't wake me or my husband up.

For those who use their phone for an alarm clock, I found a free app called "Timely"...you can set an alarm and there are several different notifications. It starts out softly, then gradually gets louder. I use this all the time on my Android phone when traveling, and really like it.

Many alarm apps allow you to keep your phone on mute, but will audibly ring or play music for the alarm.

Anyone stay in a standard view room where the view wasn't so bad? The best of the worst? Any within easy access of the quiet pool? Thank you! We stayed once at the Beach Club a few years ago and really liked it but I like to try a different resort each trip.
While it might not be ideal for all we were assigned a ground floor water view one year. Near the exit (but not too near). We liked seeing the Board walk across the way as well as being able to get in and out quickly without winding passageways. Another year we had a ground floor view of the wedding gazebo. Didn't stick around the room waiting for a wedding but it was a better view than many. All booked as Standard Views.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but, I just received the letter from Disney Destinations that the BCV will be under refurbish during my stay. Will be there end of may till Mid June.
I also received a letter and posted asking about it here too :( So upset we were moved from WLV due to that construction project to be moved to another potential construction zone? I didnt get any info on what exactly will be going on, hope someone can share some info! I called and they had no idea what would be happening at BCV.

Its normal room rehab ... just like what just happened at the BC. Now it's the BCV's turn and the YC's turn.

THanks Teena! So just rooms being redone I can handle! The project over at WLV was not what we had in mind for our family vacation. We need the quiet villa pool, so we were moved to BCV! Thanks again!

I want to apologize- :flower1: I saw your question, yesterday I think, and I was going to respond and then it all hit the fan!

Yesterday we had a family emergency and then a minor car accident. I'm ok, but the sleazeball who backed into my car while I was stopped is disputing my account. Fortunately the accident happened right in front of a police station, an officer was on the scene in about a minute and his report matches mine. But spent all day yesterday and today on the phone with insurance companies and the police and then visiting my father-in-law.

Oh yeah, and a 12 page senior thesis to proofread last night.

I did manage to see the post below on the Resort Forum this morning and I answered that, and intended to post it here, but again, got distracted and never got back to this thread.

:(

This is my understanding of what is going to happen and then a couple of questions for people who have been paying more attention than I have!

I received a letter yesterday from Disney saying there will be construction going on at the Beach Club Villas during our April vacation there. It did not specifically say what was being refreshed, but did say that all resort amenities will remain open.

Does anyone know if the villa rooms are being refurbished? When construction starts? Any chance our room will already be updated?

I'm hoping that this is good news. Maybe we will have an opportunity to start in an updated room. I have read here that the villas are currently in tough shape.

I manage the Beach & Yacht Club FAQ thread. We try to keep the first post in that thread updated with the most current refurbishment news. So far we know the work will be started in 2016, I believe in January from what we have heard. The rooms will undergo a hard refurb with replacement of furniture and décor. I believe the studio villas will be receiving some sort of pull down bedding to sleep an additional guest. There should be some info on the proposed changes on the DVC sub-forum. I'm guessing the hallways will be refurbished as well. Not sure about the public areas on the first floor- some work was already done there recently.

I don't think there are plans to build additional villas, so it is not construction work like other resorts have experienced.

We really don't know the timetable at this point- how long the work is scheduled to take or how far along they will be in April.

According to guests who have stayed at Disney resorts during refurbishment work (which happens all the time), Disney does their best to minimize disruption to guests who are there during the refurb period.

We have heard mixed reviews about the current condition of the villas on the thread. I'm not sure anyone has reported back on the thread that conditions are unacceptable, but there have been some reports of wear and tear, some dings and scratches and outdated décor.

Hope this helps.

:goodvibes:

I can't possibly imagine how upsetting all of this was, but I'm glad that it wasn't worse. Sometimes, we never realize how resilient we are, until something puts us to the test. With the other driver's account not being verified by the police officer witness, just think of how upset he must be! :guilty:
