Resort Thread Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE

Any word on when Christmas decorations go up? Considering a last minute trip for Tuesday!
That will probably still be early. In the past it's like the week before Thanksgiving and the decorations for each resort are put up on varying schedules. So one year it might be early in the week and the next later in the week. Someone might have some inside knowledge of where WL falls on the schedule this year.

Any word on when Christmas decorations go up? Considering a last minute trip for Tuesday!
If you check out Page 1 of the HOLIDAY DECORATIONS THREAD, you will see dates decorations went up at The Lodge in the past few years.

Just to note for the WL thread: it was announced by Disney, the Holiday Treat Stand will open 11/21. Last year, it opened about 6 days prior to the decorations, but wondering if they might put decorations up early this year, since Thanksgiving is so late in the month.

For guests taking a trip to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, nestled in the lobby, you’ll find a delicious selection of sweet treats. Starting November 21, get in the holiday spirit with bites like:
  • Dark Chocolate Bar
  • Cheddar Gougère
  • Molasses Crackle Cookie
  • Cookie Box

I certainly hope so as I will be there before Thanksgiving :).

I think one nuance is the tracker says "treat stand arrives" 6 days before the tree is up in 2023. So maybe it wasn't actually open 6 days prior, just set up?

I remembered seeing this article re: 2023. The article dated 11/21/2023 shows the tree and decorations up on the 21st with the treat stand set up but not yet open (according to the article).

https://blogmickey.com/2023/11/chri...tree-decor-installed-for-2023-holiday-season/

So it's a bit semantic, but perhaps the treat stand will actually be up earlier than the 21st ("treat stand arrives") but won't start selling goodies (open for business) until the 21st. Based on your post above from Disney that you can buy goodies from the 21st, and what the BlogMickey article showed last year, hopefully that means the tree will also be up by the 21st when they start selling from the stand :). Can be hopeful.

Out of curiosity, where did you see the posting on the 21st from Disney? Thanks for the insight!

According to the MICKEY BLOG article I posted in the Holiday Thread, their treat stand opened November 16, the day after it arrived.

THIS ARTICLE was posted 11/17, showing treats being sold.

THIS VIDEO was also posted on 11/17, showing what was purchased from the stand.

So, it ARRIVED 11/15 (6 days before decorations) and OPENED 11/16 (5 days before decorations).

The date of 11/21/24 was posted on the last page of the Holiday Thread I referenced, in the post you replied to above. All titles are links to the articles themselves. If you click on the blue links, they should take you to the blog article.

Hope that helps clarify a bit.

Does anyone know if there is a PhotoPass photographer regularly at Wilderness Lodge in December? Our family of 14, including grandkids, will be there in early December and would we love to get a few shots in front of the tree in the lobby. Thanks

Thanks. I guess the newsletter I saw was incorrect. Seems crazy that they would not have the tree up until the day before Thanksgiving (assuming 5 days after the 21st). When I look at that tracker it’s not been that late in the last 6 years. We will see..

No problem. Honestly, I think it’s possible that when they arrived early morning that day, they saw nothing on the shelves and assumed it did not open yet. But, WL puts the treats away at the end of the day and puts them back out on the stand when it reopens in the afternoon. Here is a picture I took myself on 11/24 at 6am.

We will be arriving early on check-in day in January and thought we might want to wander and "explore" a bit. I saw a post on FB that showed a seating area or something on the 4th floor. Anyone have any info on this?

Are there any other little things like this around the hotel? I thought I remembered reading about a small fireplace and seating area on one of the floors but maybe I dreamt that?

There are a few unique sitting areas around the floors of the main lodge.

I don't want to spoil your adventure but I suggest you explore all the different floors overlooking the lobby. The lobby is on the second floor so go up from there and check the front side and the lake side...

There is also the Carolwood Pacific Railroad Room within the Boulder Ridge Villas next door to the main lodge.

Lot's of good choices within the lodge and the villas, but don't overlook the outside areas if the weather is warm enough. I agree with the OP, it's more fun to discover these by exploring the lodge. Most have limited seating so depending on time of day, you may have to try more than one location for a seat.

There are also beautiful art pieces and geological displays around the different floors overlooking the lobby. There is a lot to discover!

There is a very nice seating area on the fourth floor, right above the main entrance. It has a fireplace, a couch, and I think armchairs. There is also a set of work stations next to it, where you can plug in a laptop and do some work.

The fifth floor, right above this 4th floor area, has a smaller sitting area. And there are random chairs to relax in around the perimeter of the area above the lobby. I think the 5th floor seating area has a fireplace, too.

If you want a little more quiet, there are a few nice areas in the Boulder Ridge building. And, of course, the WL lobby has plenty of chairs and couches. We like to stay at the WL in January and February because the fireplaces are going and very welcoming. :)

We love the Carolwood Pacific Railroad room over at Boulder Ridge Villas (short walk through a covered walkway from the main lodge). It is lovely, has a fireplace and chairs, and usually some board/table games out.

There are also a lot of little areas to sit throughout the Lodge on different floors overlooking the lobby. We like to get hot chocolate and sit in front of the grand fireplace or sit and watch the bubbling brook that is in the lobby. Geyser Point is also a great area to grab a snack or food or drink. There's seating inside the Geyser Point lounge area or there's also usually some outside along the lake.

We were there in 2022 and the tree was put up Tuesday of Thanksgiving week.

Rumor on the holiday decoration thread is that the tree is going up Nov. 20th. If they do it overnight, then it'd be up Nov. 21st, which is the day the treat stand opens. So maybe the 20th is right. Maybe. A lot of the other resorts are getting there decorations this week.

I am choosing to believe this means the tree will be put up overnight on 11/19 and fully ready by 11/20 but that's wishful thinking on my part since we head home 11/20 and I'd love to see the tree!!

To clarify, the exact quote was…

“I heard from a worker at the lodge “The tree” will be going up on the 20th.”

He also stated his wife works there, and she was the one who asked. We’ll find out soon!
