If you wanted to get a military discount for 2018 should you book now and get it applied when it comes out or wait till it comes out to book?

Good Afternoon!

I saw a question posted on 'Official MNSSHP 2017" thread and I'm sure how to help this fellow DISer:

@abnihon "I've never been to Fort Wilderness before but want to check out the decorations while we're there for the Sleep Hollow event. Will there be a decent number of sites decorated by Oct 14th? Any areas in particular that are good? Can we walk around campsites from the Ranch or would we have to take the bus?"

If I'm not on the correct thread can someone please assist? Thank you.
This is the Wilderness Lodge Thread, not the Fort Wilderness thread. I'll see if I can find a link to the FW thread (don't feel bad, tons of folks mix up the 2 resorts)

Just found it thank you so much for your time!

Hi! I was wondering if you could help me I’m trying to find out information about the ”Legend of Sleepy Hollow” event at Tri-Circle D Ranch at Ft. Wilderness. I am staying at the BRV and plan to attend this event on Oct 28th with an ADR at Trails End. We are three adults. We'll be attedning the 8pm show.

What is the best method of transportation to Trails End from BRV?

How do I get to Tri-Circle D Ranch from Trails End?

Once the event is over how do I get back to BRV from Tri-Circle D Ranch?

I have seen others post similar questions but the reply's have been mixed. Here are the event details:
Legend of Sleepy Hollow @ Disney's Fort Wilderness
The event will include a showing of the 1949 classic animated Disney film, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, followed by another 1949 classic The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. Then guests will be able to have a M&G with the Headless Horseman. All guests of the event will receive a limited edition Headless Horseman pin, and Premium Ticket guests will receive an additional “goody bag.” The event will take place at the Tri-Circle D Ranch.

Dates: September 29th and 30th, Thursdays through Sundays in October, and the last Monday and Tuesday of October; the 30th and 31st.

Times: 8pm & 10pm

Tickets: Will go on sale six months before each date (for example, for the October 1st show, reservations can be made starting April 1st). Reservations, 407-WDW-PLAY.

If you are going to Trails End in the evening then you can take the MK bus. It goes to the Settlement area of Fort Wilderness for Hoop Dee Doo guests. But ask the bus driver before getting on the bus to make sure he is going there. The Settlement area is where the restaurants are. I would ask the bus driver how to get back to the WL.

There is also a boat that goes from WL to Fort Wilderness. It runs until 11pm.

I think the Tri-Circle D ranch is the one right next to Trails End, but I'm not sure. :)

Thank you so much! I'll add this info to 2017 MNSSHP thread.

I realized that I hadn't given my typical mini trip report from our stay at the WL March 24th to 29th. We had booked two standard view rooms with the annual pass discount, one for us and one for my sister and our friend. I didn't have any trouble getting the AP discount applied to her room, and it saved us 35%, which was nice. It was my sister's first time staying in a deluxe resort, she had only stayed in moderates before, so I was hoping that she would enjoy her experience. (She did, but said she missed the food courts.)

We checked in first and were given room 5088, exactly one floor above the room we had on our January 2015 trip. We had requested a room close to the lobby and got exactly what we wanted. I had our reservations marked as traveling together, and had requested rooms close to each other. They gave us connecting rooms, which was handy. They had room 5089, the last room on the floor. We had the second to last room on the floor. Neither of us had a room above us. We had a view of mostly trees. It was not a very good fireworks view. You could see them through the trees. But it was convenient to the lobby and we used the stairs a lot. And it was a quiet room since no one was above us and there was no reason for anyone to walk past our room. We didn't hear very much noise from the lobby below, either.

This was the view from right outside our room.

This is the view slightly to the right. This is the main gathering point for the construction. We saw the crew arrive as early as 7am. the buildings in the forefront include the smokehouse and other maintenance buildings. The cabins are at the back.

And this was our view to the left. It is the main driveway. We had beautiful weather on this trip, not a drop of rain, and we enjoyed sitting on our balcony.

This was our fireworks view, although it looked better in person. As you can see, the trees were in the way.

We had some construction pins waiting for us when we entered our resort room. We thought they looked a little different than the ones we received in January 2016 and when we got home we found out what it was. They shrunk a bit. ;)

I have already posted pictures of the resort and some of the construction. I'll repeat what I said before, Geyser Point is a great addition to the WL. It not only brought back the lake views that had been taken away during construction but it made the views even better. We loved eating there. The only facets of the construction that we found inconvenient were the closed main elevators, since we had a lobby room, and having Roaring Forks closed. Our room was about as far away from Geyser Point as you could get, which, by the way, isn't really far, but it didn't make it inconvenient to grab a drink. We ended up buying some snacks at the Mercantile, instead. Usually we buy one refillable mug on every trip. But this was the first trip we didn't buy one. Besides, I didn't want one of those mugs with the white handles. They looked very odd. ;)

One of the unexpected highlights of our trip was that I received an impromptu tour of the new Old Faithful Club. I was killing time before our dinner ADR and decided to try and get a few more pictures of the pool construction. I ran into one of the cast members who we met during our one and only club level stay, which was in January 2016. We had been unfortunate enough to arrive at the WL just a few days after they closed the old club lounge. When I ran into the CM during this March trip he offered to give me a tour of the new club lounge. It is a beautiful lounge and they left the view of the lobby open, which is nice. :)

All in all, it was one of our best WDW trips ever. The combination of the gorgeous WL and the lovely weather, along with traveling companions that fit our style well, made for a very enjoyable trip. I would love to go back there when the new pool is open. I think it will be lovely. :)

Go glad to hear you had a fantastic time & it was great to hear more details about your trip! That's great WL was the first stop on Magical express, I don't think that's ever happened to us.

Wow a marching band on the plane, sounds like fun o_O

Wolfgang Puck express sounds great, it's definitely on my bucket list.

That's so funny about the shrinking pins - it reminded me of the shrinky dinks toy :P

If you wanted to get a military discount for 2018 should you book now and get it applied when it comes out or wait till it comes out to book?

You could book, or you could wait. If you want it say in Jan or feb, maybe book now, but any later than that you can wait. If they have military rates they will most likely come out in late august, or that is when they have been coming out over the last few years. All rooms except deluxe rooms at WL have the military rate, so you should have plenty of rooms left if you are going after feb and the rate comes out in late august. Hope that answers your question, I am not an expert but I have done military, and we go in my this year and as of this week they still have military rates left for our my trip, but maybe not in all room categories. Not everyone knows a lot about the military rates, so I tried my best to answer you.

Thank You :love1:

We got checked in. Got a text that our room was ready on the ME, about 12. Not the greatest room but glad it was ready early.

We've grabbed lunch at Geyser Point. It's even better than advertised. Love it. They are setting up for a media photo event now so they are sprucing the place up

OK, guys. The hubs agreed to a last minute trip in mid-October. I usually plan way farther out, so I am feeling stressed. Take pity on me, lol. Right now we are booked at Yacht Club Club Level from 10-16-10/22. I'm just not feeling it for this trip. We have a lot of MK stuff planned (MNSSHP) plus we are wanting to do HDDMR and the new Headless Horseman event at the campground, so I feel like WL will be more central. I've skimmed the first few posts and the last few posts (I'm in a time crunch to re-book, so again, please take pity on me haha!). It sound like most of the construction will be done by mid-October, correct? And for sure, the OFC is completed, right? So if the answer to both questions is yes, which would you pick (there are only 4 of us this trip...my oldest will be going on a class trip during that time):

1) Club Level Standard room
2) Copper Creek Deluxe Studio

The difference in cost is that the Club Level room is about $1,000 more that CCV. We can swing either, but booking CCV would make me feel much less guilty for all the add-ons that I want to do. :D Thoughts?

Congratulations! Yes by October all construction should be wrapped up, even with potential delays. OFC is open now in its new location, and the CCV villas are scheduled to open July 17th.

As for which way to go, we would save the $1000 and go CCV. We used to dislike villas because they aren't in the main building, but CCV solves that issue. We have never spent the $$$ for Club Level though, so we might not be the best ones to recommend against it. Either way, WL would be a great place to stay.
