Can't we all just get along....We will get through thiss..Yeah, I forgot about everything you said before the income brag once I read that. For future reference, don't do that. It's obnoxious.
Apologies. The point was in no way to brag about income - but looking back I can see how that happened. I'm a modest person, and that came out all wrong.
The point I was trying to make is that, I (probably like many who are able to share a large amount of disposable income with Disney) I have my personal limits. The point being that I could afford the APs, but no longer want to based on the price increase. And if the price increases stay on this trajectory, then their will definitely be a point in the near future where I would not be able to afford them. So again, didn't mean any offense!

I think you also have to blame all of the people who purchased child APs and used them for the perks, solely because a child's pass was so much cheaper.
Between this, and the credit card deposits for meals, and the testing of mug chips, people need to get a clue. Disney is sick of people finding and abusing loopholes in their policies, and are now going to slam a gate down.
I'm sorry a trip to WDW no longer holds any appeal for you. But as another poster pointed out, a trip to Universal is no bargain either.
Folks were using child AP's to enter the parks?
Someone mentioned the local zoo not allowing in f&b-if Wdw did this perhaps they could slow the increases and maybe reopen the shuttered locations...
But seriously it ALWAYS has surprised me they allow this.1. At Universal Florida there is no pricing difference between child and adult on APs.
Somehow though - they have convinced us its a value thoughOverall I guess it can be.
We have AP's to both Universal and Disney. While there isn't as much at Universal - they defninitely are able to give the nod to onsite guests. We stayed at HRH for less than $200 a night - a much nicer hotel than anything at Disney. Their version of the meal plan is an excellent deal. Their food is far superior, IMHO. FOTL - unbeatable.
For the record - just because I'm more critical of Disney these days doesn't mean I don't still appreciate the magic and greatness of Disney, just that I'm disappointed in the complete and blatant focus on profit. I know its a business, but its a monster these days.
Although I've never purchased season passes (because we've never planned more than one trip in 12 consecutive months), I still think it's the best vacation value for my family of 5.
In Aug., 2010, we all enjoyed 9 days (5 of those nights in WDW) of vacation for approx $2200...for everything. This included:
5 6-day Adult YES tickets (basic tix - no p/h or non-expiring)
5 nights @ Wyndham Bonnet Creek 2-bedroom resort
3 nights @ motel on the way to and back (we drove from San Antonio)
All groceries and extra meals
Fuel expenses
Snacks, souvenirs, etc in parks
No way we could get 9 days of a this type of vacation for a family of 5 anywhere else for this cost. If you maximize where and how you spend you vacation $$, WDW is one heck of a bang for your buck!
They were buying one child's AP and using it to get resort discounts, free parking, TiW cards and the like.
See this is where they are lousing me. I've seen the prices go up but the value imo has gone down.
1) I don't compare disney to other venues. there are no other venues like disney. I do compare disney now to disney of old. I think that;s my problem, I've been going for almost 15 years straight and the cut backs and drops in quality are really taking a toll.
ITA with this...if you've been to WDW in the 90's, it is hard to continue going and not have the same expectations.
2) I still appreciate the magic but I've cut way down. Disney is no longer my premier destination. Cruises and all inclusives I see now as a better baragin and I have just as much fun.
I have a family of 5 so many other destinations are cost prohibitive for us especially since my kids are teenagers and need more space. But I see the light at the end of the tunnel...son is going off to college, so my daughters and I are scheming about new vacations as a family of 4!! (Sorry, Alex)
Also when I do go to the world, Ive changed touring styles.5 years ago I would have never gone offsite for a meal.I would have cut my foot off before stepping outside of the mouse world. Now, not only are the prices ridiculous, the food is not that good. so it's rare that we eat onsite. and it's not because of the prices really, we are just so tired of being disappointed in our dinners.
Before, any thing under a 7 night stay would be unthinkable. We still go 7 nights but now we spend 3 at universal or sea world.
