Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Approximately how long of a walk is it from Riverside building 25 to the main building. Also am I correct that I read somewhere that the west depot back by buildings 24/25/34 is the fist stop picked up when going to the parks. into my final 40 days before our trip so I am trying to figure out where abouts we would like to stay. I think I would rather be closer to the bus stop than the building. We have a garden view and are requesting alligator bayou

From building 25 about a 5 minute walk (450 yards or so) to the main building food court door. And yes, the West Depot is the first pickup for most of the bus routes now (but think of that as a guideline rather than a hard rule).

We have stayed at Deluxe resorts(AKL), moderate resorts(POR), and value resorts(ASMo), and by faaaaaaaar, POR was the best. We visited from April 7-9 pre-cruise and we chose the Royal room with river views. Oak manor was absolutely beautiful and the ambiance was perfect. The royal rooms are gorgeous and are very conveniently located, but I feel that they are way overpriced. We are planning another visit to WDW for November 2017 and without a doubt, we will be staying at POR.

Anyone know if they are still working on the roof for magnolia terrace? We want to request that building, but not if work is still working. We go in 3 weeks. I called riverside and the CM said there is no construction going on. But on portorleans.org it say there is work going on.

Yup. Scheduled to be completed in July.

When you called POR you didn't actually speak to someone at POR. The know what number you dialed and will answer like they are at that resort, but they are not. You spoke to a CM located at a Central Call Center. They usually have no, or inaccurate, information on refurbs at the resorts.

I was there last week and they were definitely still working on the roof.

We just returned from POR, and stayed in the Magnolia Terrace building. I took a chance, and requested our king room be in that very building overlooking the river. I did note on my faxed request (per Andre's advice) to please not put me there if we would be overlooking any construction or if they thought construction noise there might be an issue, in which case any king river view room would be just great!
We got exactly what we requested!
From our room (to include the whole general area where our room was), I saw no construction and heard no construction. While walking on the sidewalk in front of our building and down the way there was some scaffolding hidden by a mesh-like covering, but it wouldn't be something I would ever give a second glance or thought about. And I happened to not ever see any workers or hear any noise at all during our three night stay.

I have a WWYD question regarding room request and checking the box to get the room early and possibly override my request.

We are driving down to WDW in mid August and expect to arrive Disney around noon. We have a Garden view room and I would like to stay in AB with a murphy bed so my kids don't need to share the bed. I thought it would be great to have a room ready when we arrive instead of waiting until 3pm since DH might get tired from all the driving.

Would you check that box to get the room ready or not??

Another question: Is there somewhere at POR where we can rest and wait while waiting for the room??

:thanks:

Personally, I would want the best chances of getting the room requests. Your kids having to share a bed will affect your whole trip, not just the couple hours you MIGHT have to wait for your room to be ready.

Any one of the pools. I have taken many a nap in one of the pool loungers while waiting for our room.

If you don't want to be outside in the August heat/humidity,there are some VERY comfy chairs/"couches" in an area adjacent to Check-In.

The Food Court is right down the hall if you want a snack and/or drinks.

Perfect for relaxing.:)

Here now. Arrived Thursday (early morning, like 1:00 AM) and we were given the WORKS Alligator Bayou, building 14, corner room, river view! Amazing! It is really quiet, even a stone's throw from the food court and pool. I sit on my balcony and watch the water! Everything has been perfect...I have stayed at this resort before, but it is TWICE as nice as I remember. Things have been really nice, busses have been running smoothly, food court is fresh and everything around is in immaculate shape. Had an AMAZING trip down the Sassagula yesterday with an amazing Captain. If I can help anyone with any questions, ask away, as I am here for 9 more days and I can investigate anything, as we take a room break everyday for 2-3 hours. On a side note, don't believe the hype with the rants of the death of the Disney Magic. Everywhere we have been, from Disney Springs to the parks to the resort, has been spot-on, pure Disney joy! Keep the faith and plan those trips :)

You can even swim if you want, there are towels, changing rooms (with a shower) by the pool and even lockers.

14 days at POR would be awesome! Congratulations!

I have a 14 night stay coming up July 12-26! I am really excited to stay ay POR for the first time. We always go for 2 weeks so get a lot of resort time. Last visit we stayed at WL, but chose POR for this vacation as I have always been intrigued by it....and I have been getting so excited about it. I can't wait!

So wonderful to read such a positive review! I have 79 more days to go before I am there! I can't wait. It sounds wonderful! I will also be in AB, I have requested building 14 on my reservation, and will be asking for upper floor, corner room on my online Check in request. So wonderful to hear you say that the Magic is still there. Thank you for that!!

I am thinking about requesting a room with the TP website. I notice that some of the rooms in building 38 are a 5 minute walk to the lobby, which is the same as the estimated walk from building 16, which looks like the closest building to the lobby that isn't preferred. I know from the map that there is a bridge that crosses across the pool island so that the walk to the lobby isn't too far. Is one location better than the other? I am a little afraid that if I request 38 they may put me in one of the buildings further out. What do you experts think?

Then rather than requesting a building number and hoping that they will guess why, just tell them that you'd like a room as close as possible to the main building. Incidentally, while the walk across the island from 38 is lovely, and a great way to get to the main pool, it's actually a slightly shorter walk if you take the riverbank pathway to the food court.

UpstateMick,
If you ever go to the foodcourt for BREAKFAST during your trip, please snap some pictures of the menu. I want to know what type of breakfast item I can purchase with the snack credits from my dining plans. Items that are qualified as snacks used to have a purple lego next to it. I hope they still use the logo to mark it on the menu.

TIA!

Andre has the menu on his website:
