Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Does that means if I do not plan to link a credit card to my reservation to use with my Magic Band and make no in-room charges I do not need to provide a credit card?

Correct, there's no need to put a credit card on file at all. I don't think you can do online checkin without one though.

I was just able book a Royal Room - Garden view for Saturday November 5th! My wife and I brought our children to Port Orleans back in the 90's so this will be nostalgic visit before we start the week at AKV with my brother and his family! This will also allow us to take a later morning flight into Orlando, instead of our normal crack of dawn flight o_O The plan is a afternoon jump to the MK to get our AP's and then drinks at Trader Sam's and dinner at Ohana (maybe?). Then back to POR by 10:30 for Yee Haww Bob!!!

The best part is we can sleep in on Sunday.............easy move to AKV..............and then off to Animal Kingdom!!!! The thought of no 3am ride to the airport makes this overnight stay so cool!8-)

We've never been in a Royal room..............what should we expect. How are the buses from that location?:listen:

I'm with you on going a day early to avoid a 3 am ride to the airport! I used to spend money on an airport hotel the night before departure until I realized that I could spend the same money on a disney hotel and wake up already where I want to be, fresh as a daisy, and ready to have fun!

We did the EXACT same thing for our past 2 trips...............now we'll take our time and enjoy Trader Sam's the night before my brother and his family arrives, instead of pizza and a long ride to the airport! I'm thinking what a "Dilbert" I've been.........:-)

Is preferred riverview a bookable category?

I was wondering if I could request a preferred location if I have a riverview booked. Thanks!

'Preferred River View' is not a specific category. However all River View rooms are equal, including those in buildings 14 and 27 (which are two of the locations where the Preferred rooms are also situated). So you could certainly request a room in building 14 or 27 if you have got a River View booking. For example:

Thanks Andre!
So if I booked a preferred room, and requested a Riverview room in building 14, would a person who booked riverview take priority over someone who had booked preferred? I hope I'm making sense.

If you book River View at Riverside (it is a pre-booked premium price category, not just a request) then all of the rooms are very well located anyway, as they all face out over riverbank pathway pointed towards the centre of the resort. Even the mansion building River View rooms are still a short walk across the Ol' Man Island footbridge to the main buildings. Other than building 14, they are perhaps a bit more of a walk to the parking lots if you plan to drive.

See the first post in this thread, and also http://www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php, for info on making requests. Add the request verbally to your booking at first, and then send a fax 3-5 days before arrival.

AWESOME INFORMATION!!

Thanks for the information about the nicest river view rooms are at the end of the extended wings with 2 stories.

Booked everything on Saturday, so hopefully all set. Put in my request verbally and will send a fax 5 days prior to checkin.

Thanks Andre!

Reading the information just now, it looks as though this is it:

Preferred Location (located in Riverside’s Alligator Bayou section ONLY): These rooms offer close proximity to the restaurants, transportation and main buildings at Riverside. Preferred rooms are ONLY located in Alligator Bayou lodges 14, 15, 18 and 27 — there are no preferred locations in the mansion buildings or at French Quarter. Views vary and can include parking lot or bayou/stream/garden outlooks — but not pool/river views. 2016 prices vary seasonally from $232 to $332.

Thanks. Yes. This answers my question.

Does anyone know if the rooms have, or could have, coffee makers in the royal rooms?

Preferred Location rooms are only the ones shown in yellow on my floorplans, not the whole of each building. So the dark blue river view rooms are not classified as Preferred Location in term of the booking categories, they are assigned to guests who have specifically booked River View (even if they are in buildings 14 or 27).

For those who have stayed on the first floor in AB section, do you often hear noises from the room above you? I will have a double stroller with me and would prefer a first floor room. But DH is a light sleeper and I worry about the noise from room above. TIA

I've stayed 1st flr AB four times and never heard a peep from above. Maybe we just got lucky.

The above post regarding credit cards got me thinking.....I work in hotels so every hotel I've ever worked in has had to hold an additional deposit if you will on a credit card when a guest checks in. Currently the hotel I work at now holds and additional $50 per night on top of your room charge. Are you saying that if I do online check-in there will be funds held on my credit card? I do plan on putting a credit card to make charges back to the room, will they hold money on my CC for that purpose. or just charge it all at the end?

No, Disney doesn't put a credit card hold on their resort rooms. They will charge it all at the end unless you exceed a pre-set limit. I am not sure what it is but it would be something like $1,000 or $1,500. Someone probably knows what it is. And if you hit that limit your credit card would be charged then. If you don't hit the limit then it won't be charged until your check out day, usually in the early morning hours.
