Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Magnolia Terrace mansion building has some ongoing roofing work, so you might prefer to avoid that building (although the areas immediately beneath the work area are closed).

Thanks! When we were there in 2002, we were in Acadian House and I really liked the building, but, in truth, all of them were gorgeous (esp at night!).

Is there a rhyme or reason to who gets a mansion and who gets a room in AB? I know parties of 5 will get AB, but does that mean parties of 4 are more likely to get a mansion? I am ok with either - just wondering what to expect..

We are a party of 2 and have always gotten AB. I would like to stay in the Mansions, but we love both equally so its never been a big deal for us. I'm not sure how they determine where you go!

I've only been to POR twice, both times solo, and both times got AB. With half of the mansion rooms being Royal rooms (which are a separate booking category), there are more AB rooms than mansion rooms, so you should have a better than average chance of getting AB.

As you say, there are certain groups that they need to put in AB (families of five) but otherwise there is no particular logic applied. There are more AB rooms than there are regular mansion building rooms, but that balance also varies depending on your choice of room category. So I guess the slightly higher chance is probably for getting AB - especially with some of the Magnolia Terrace rooms temporarily out of use during the roofing work. Just put in a request for what you want and keep your fingers crossed.

OK well just added another day! We won't get in until late and I was going to stay off site but hey why bother to save less than $100 . They can't guarantee that we will be in the same room but I'm thinking positive.

We travel to WDW tomorrow! Unfortunately we can't stay at POR this time (6 people, a second room was not available) so we are at AoA. However, we plan to visit POR tomorrow evening to see Yehaa Bob, and maybe take a carriage ride.
Wonderful! Enjoy!

YeeHaw Bob is so awesome, and worth the trip! We are already planning on seeing him again in November when we visit. I did overhear one of the carriage drivers saying that you have to book in advance. I'm not sure if this was due to the business of the time or just how it works so you might want to consider calling ahead if you'd like to do a carriage ride. I'm sure there's someone more experienced with the matter though who could comment on it.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but a search of the thread for "roof color" says no :) Looking on Google Maps, I see that Alligator Bayou has 2 different roof color sections. We've stayed in Buildings 25 and 26-- both are white/silver roofed. This time we booked Preferred, and I notice that 14, 15 and 18 have the brown roofs. 27 is white/silver. Is there any difference in the rooms as well? Trying to make it interesting for flyovers? Ran out of one color? Trying to make people like me crazy with curiosity?

Really it makes no difference, but every time I look I get curiouser and curiouser...

Thanks, again, all!

One more question - Yee Haw Bob - I have heard so much about him! Are kids welcome, or should I plan on them being back in the room? I am ok with some adult drink/snack time...just want to know what is the standard :)

I am DEFINITELY not an expert, but I recall reading...somewhere...that in AB, the sections, as they go further back, get more and more "rustic" in appearance. That some have a "tin roof" and some are "wood"...

On our first 2 trips to POR I requested AB for our family of 4, then 3. (A drive through on a previous trip to the Poly had us in love with POR and the AB section!!) I made no other request since all I wanted was AB. Both times I got placed in the Mansions, once even with an upgrade to Garden View from my Standard booking. Both times I got it switched to AB, but the 1:30 to 2:00 a.m. front desk room switch was a real challenge for me :hourglass. This time I simply booked preferred so I know I have AB and for the extra $$ at least the location should be better for the DS boats, food court and Boatwright's. The CM at the front desk told me they "save" the AB rooms for parties of 5. So I think it depends on how many are requesting mansions for their parties of 4> and how full the resort is/time of year/ all but random.

So they place you in the mansion and then switch you to AB in the middle of the night???
I am going to request AB for my trip for my family of 4 as well. But my priority request would be to be away from the smoking area, followed by to be in AB section.
I wonder what the job of room-assignment would be like. He/she must be very good at solving puzzles...

Kids are very much welcome. In fact, when we were there, he went out of his way to make them part of the show. Yee Haw Bob was actually one of the highlights of our all-adult trip. He had my fuddy-dud dad and uncle up out of their seats beating their chests and screaming like tarzan. I haven't belly laughed that hard in a long time.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick response :)

LOL, no! I tried to re-read that, but since I knew what I meant... sorry for the confusion. :rolleyes1 Magical Express got us to POR at 1:30 a.m. Finding out then that I had the furthest back Mansion room after requesting AB made me want to cry. That and having traveled so far, and so late in the day after a whirlwind trip to the midwest for my niece's graduation, then surprising my two DD's in St Louis at the airport with the WDW detour, and having the 15 year-old nearly lose it because she thought we were headed home. First trip to WDW without my husband for the girls, and an all-honors student worrying about missing yet more school. Kids. I am extremely sensitive to smoke, and except for needing ot detour my walking path, I have never smelled smoke from the Smoking Area in any room we've had anywhere. That does not mean it can't happen of course. Don't forget that you can always pay a bit more for preferred and then request away from Smoking Area.

Question re: walking. We have booked POR for a trip in September. When we last came to WDW, we stayed at Caribbean Beach Resort. We really enjoyed it, but the only complaint from my wife was about walking distances. I was wondering if anyone had any firsthand knowledge of walking distances in POR in direct comparison to CBR. Looking at the map, it looks like it could be similar or likely a bit less walking to get out to the island than with CBR and getting to the main pool. But it looks like we might be looking at close to the same distance from a guest room to the main dining area. Any information would be helpful for this general lurker.

Thanks!

Yes, and he definitely involves them in the show! The table next to us had two kids and they were having the BEST time! It made me want to bring my kids! They would love it!

Now, take what I say with a grain of salt, as both were years ago.

We stayed at CBR, in Trin South…building 39 (or whatever the furthest one out was in 1999).
We also stayed at POR in 2002. At that time, Ol Man Island pool was closed, as were all but one path (I know when we crossed from the main building, to the island, we had to go left, only).

The walk from the main building (drawing a blank on its name) was a much further FEELING walk than from Trin South. It was truly a drag. The pool opened up our last day there (and it was pouring…figures), and cutting the other way around did make it feel shorter. But, it really did seem comparable to CBR.

That being said, the worst “distance” I have had at a mod was CSR. None of them are excruciating, though.

Thanks for the info. To me, it's looking like it will at least be "similar" and both have had so many changes over the last several years (with the bridge at CBR and renovations at POR) that many people may not have a really good gauge... And after the trip, I will post my feelings as well in case anyone else is curious.
