Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Hi all, I have a few questions that I'm hoping any of you that have been to POR recently can answer for me.

I have our trip booked for mid-October 2016, and on my original printout it says that we have a "Standard View" room. When I look at my reservation now, it says we have a "Garden View" but the price has not changed at all. Has this happened to anyone else?

Second, if we wanted to go see Yeehaw Bob, do we need reservations or is it first come first serve?

Next, can I get some opinions on the quality of food at Boatrights and the Dining Mill? I've been looking at reviews for Disney restaurants in general, but I was curious to what you thought of the resort food?

Lastly, if you have a lazy evening and you just want to have pizza and eat it in your (apparently upgraded Garden View ;) ) room, where's the best place to get it from? We're a simple taste family, not really interested in super gourmet toppings etc.., Just a pepperoni & bacon kind of deal. I've heard that many of the Disney pizzerias are not that good.

Thanks!

Just booked our November 2016 stay! First on property stay and I am sooo excited! Thanks so much to Andre and everyone else here for all your helpful information about the resort. We currently have a standard room booked but I'm hoping for a discount to come around and potentially make a Royal Room a little cheaper and then we'll switch to that! 284 days!

Nice Upgrade, we have been upgraded like that. Couple day before you, go send a fax with where you would like to stay. This works great.

No reservation for Bob, but get there early if you want a seat.

Boatrights is OK, but the Food court has my favorite counter service food on property. PASTA BOWL. Ton of food and its make your own. and cheap.

Pizza is non-memorable, but they will deliver it. Just take a walk to the food court.

Just going to answer one of your questions and leave the rest to the experts....
The food court at Riverside is thought by many to be the best of the Disney Resorts. LOTS of choices!

I don't know that much about Disney pizza but I would suggest as an option ordering delivery from offsite(non Disney company) Thanks to the dis boards and trip reports on our last trip we ordered Giordanos, who will deliver to on property( only to the lobby though, not your room). We called and they gave us a delivery window and we just chilled in the lobby till they showed up. We got the meat meat and more meat pizza and the Dfi is in love. It's a must do on our next trip now as we don't have them up here in Canada.

All of the preferred rooms are in Alligator Bayou - in fact, booking preferred is the only way to insure getting in Alligator Bayou (well, that or having five people). I'm confused, though, if you booked garden view, you can't request a preferred room, since that's a different booking category (well, you can, but getting it would be an upgrade, so it's not something you're likely to get). If you want to be in Alligator Bayou, just request that.
Yes, I'm trying to decide whether it would be worth changing from garden view to preferred just to be sure we get Alligator Bayou, but I don't want to look at a parking lot, either. There's only 2 of us, so we wouldn't be put there automatically, and I don't know how often requests for Alligator Bayou are honored for small parties. Just trying to figure out the best way to get Alligator Bayou, but not look at a parking lot.

I will pay extra for a preffered room to be close to food court, etc... But only at a deluxe would I pay extra for a view. Moderates and values have no balcony so I've never seen need for a view there. Last time we stayed at wilderness lodge and I paid extra for woods view and had a view of MK fireworks from our balcony. That was worth the extra money....but at POR I wouldn't spend time outside my room just hanging out enjoying the view as there's no balcony to sit on.
So, if you really want Aligator bayou, if it was me, I would book the preffered room.

I requested Alligator Bayou for the two of us and we received it. We booked a king room and I requested a corner room. We ended up with a pool view and it was lovely. :) Although, my husband kept the blinds shut because he didn't like people to be able to see into the room, so I don't know how valuable a view at a moderate really is. People walking past your room in a deluxe resort can't see in unless you are on the ground floor, whereas with the exterior doors people can see in the windows on any floor.

I noticed from the pictures of the rooms that the bedding has changed since we were there before. We are staying in a royal room this trip and I was wondering if there are any extra blankets stored in the room? My family tends to like to sleep in a warmer room at night. It doesn't look like there are many covers on the bed beyond the sheets and I'm afraid we will be too cold. Do I need to bring our own blankets?

I just wanted to say, "Enjoy the Beach Club!"

We are booked at POR on a magical deal in April and I'm wondering how my family I'll deal with not being at BC. Did you find the A/C to be noisy? Also, is the only clothing storage the hanging rod in the sink area?

Have a great trip!

Last stay we had at WL there was an extra blanket in the room. In the closet I believe. If POR doesn't have one, you can always request blankets from Mousekeeping. Don't bring your own,

The top sheets are layered in a sandwich of one sheet, one blanket, another sheet. You can request more of anything you need though.

Great! Thank you!

We leave for POR the end of March. I booked a royal suite room standard. I figured the two little ones won't care that much about the view...hopefully.

My concern is how much preplanning of dining should we do?

Well, you booked my favorite Disney Resort and your little ones will love your Royal Room. The room views at POR are not important because you don't have a private balcony and with people having to walk past your window to get to their rooms you will want to have your drapes closed anyway. There is a great counter service food court at POR and also a family table service restaurant called Boatwrights. In addition there is a boat to take you to all the restaurants at Disney Springs. The little ones would enjoy TRex there. You will want to make some dining reservations ahead. But you can always cancel by midnight the night before if your plans change, so no reason not to.

The only "closet" is the rod in the sink area, but there is also a small chest of drawers. Enjoy your stay! It is so beautiful at POR!
