Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

- Party of 5 means you will be in Alligator Bayou and there are no elevators in those buildings.
- If first floor is important then I would make that a request.
- Last I saw the online requests were only for Floors or corner room, nothing else so I would call to add specifics.
- Alligator Bayou is going to have about 1/2 of the buildings truly close to food court and most are preferred.
- We have had an AB Pool View in Bldg 16. Loved the location in proximity to all but removed enough from Food Court to avoid the noise.

Thank you !! Bldg 16 is my preference , the walk to the buses & main bldg does not seem that long judging by google maps

I agree! I've had well water for 40 years and just can't get used to the intense chlorine taste. But the filtered water at the drink stations is much better.

I'm not too keen on the tap water warm (as you say, it tastes a bit chlorinated), but chilled or from the drinks fountains it's fine. However it's preferable to dehydration! I often add a squirt of those concentrated flavouring bottles (orange & peach is my favourite).

It's looking like the footbridge and for the most part, the pool refurb should be nearly complete when I arrive on Feb. 28. Hoping that most of the blocked pathways/bridges will be down by then.

Not sure if I can ask this here or not.....we are arriving next Thursday the 25th. Looking to order some water but GG has a $40 minimum. Any other suggestions that won't break the bank on just water?

Much cheaper to order for Amazon and have delivered to POR the day before your arrival!

Where are the outlets located? Are there any power outlets beside the beds? I don't mean between the beds...I'm wondering if there are any on the walls on the outside of each bed?

I have skimmed through the last few pages of this thread, and the unofficial info page, but haven't found the answer I'm looking for. I guess I'm apologizing in advance in case this has already been asked & answered!

We are hoping to stay at POR the weekend before our fall break cruise because it's our all-time favorite for a mainly resort-only stay. My MIL, however, was pricing rooms out (they're coming with us) and she said there was a large message in red at the top of the page saying that the resort would be under construction at that time (October 8-10). I've read about the pool refurb and the roofing project, but they both have expected completion dates months before our trip. Anyone know of any construction projects projected to be going on in early October?

We were in a river view room in building 14 a few weeks ago and my only compliant was about the power outlets. Couldn't reach one near the bed and there were only two that we could find; one near the table by the TV (which was behind a chair) and another in the bathroom. None of the outlets had USB connections, so bring your full chargers.

Thank you. This is what I was worried about. We have 3 cell phones, an iPad and a battery pack to charge. Looks like I should pack a power bar and extension cord.

That's us & that's exactly what I do & plug it in by the table. That works best for us.

There is one double-outlet on the wall behind the table, another double-outlet beside the bed furthest from the door, another double right behind the bedside table (one socket of which is usually in use, and it is a little hard to get to as the table needs to be moved a bit to access it) and another double on the wall next to the wash basins. We tend to take a couple of 4-way strip sockets with us, and connect one under the table and the other behind the beside table, so we only need to reach down there once. That's enough even for me running Mission Control from the room. :)

Disney doesn't announce construction work much further than three months out, but as far as I'm aware at the moment there's nothing specific planned for POR in October. The red message is a generic one about the resort currently, not about October bookings in particular. If your MIL had clicked on the "See Details" link, she would have seen:

Andre, you are certainly a Port Orleans expert. You do a wonderful job on this forum, and I really appreciate it because POR is my favorite for so many reasons. I've stayed at GF, VillasatGF, WL, BWI, AKL, Swan, OKW, SSR, CBR, POR, POFQ, AoA, ASMo and VBR. I enjoyed all, but POR is, for me, just the best of all. So thanks for all your expert advice and information.

:thanks: I like the idea of using a 4 way strip. My boys seem to need their phones within arms reach when they are in bed. So if they use the bed furthest from the door, they should each have an outlet. One behind bedside table and one by bed on other side. I would be fine to use the one by table with a 4 way plug for my stuff.

The only problem with the outlet by the bed is that there's nowhere to actually put the phones (or whatever you've got charging). I was hesitant to just plug in a phone, set it on the floor and then flip off the lights. We stayed at CBR last year and I thought the power/charging options were more thought out. Multiple outlets (with USB plugs) on the nightstand and a better overall placement of the plugs around the room.

This is how we utilized the plug next to the bed furthest from the door. We stood up one of the long cylinder pillows in the small space between the bed and wall. This acted like a small night stand. It seemed to work well for us. Liked that better than putting my phone on the ground.

Hmm, I never thought of that. The inconvenient outlet locations are a hassle

I place one of our suitcases between the bed and the wall, it makes a perfect night-stand and also helps with the storage issue that was created when they stopped you being able to slide your cases away under the bed.

OK - I know this is silly, but please tell me they plan on reinstalling the blue tiles that depict the frogs and lilypads around the inside perimeter of the pool! Those tiles gave the pool so much character - it is truly all about the little details.

Sadly I think you may be out of luck. They have just started to replace some of the pool edging, and the new tiles seem to be a generic brown/beige mottled design - rather like a darker version of my bathroom at home in fact. I guess they just got a job lot from Tiles'R'Us. I suppose the best we can say for now is that the colour scheme matches with the whole Ol' Man Island 'muddy swimming hole' concept, they look kinda 'rusty'.

What does surprise me though, given the scale of the work that is being done, is that they didn't decide install a new interactive water play area (like the one over at French Quarter) while they've got everything gutted. I'm sure one will come within the next few years, so why not do it now?
