Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

And this is how 2016 looks in graphical form:

Royal Room pricing seems to have flattened out a lot - there is often very little difference between the price of Standard View Royal Rooms and the various higher categories (and at many times of the year, Garden, Pool and River views are all exactly the same price).

my feeling is that if check-in time is 3 pm and you get to check-in earlier you are lucky. But if you aren't able to get in your room earlier than 3, that is ok since any earlier is a bonus. Not something to be expected.

I just switched my October Beach Club reservation over to POR (River View)to save some $ as I'm booked on a Disney Cruise this May. What are my chances of being assigned a river view room in the Alligator Bayou section? I looked over Andre's POR property map and it doesn't appear there are many water view rooms available in the AB lodges.

Pretty good actually, if you check my maps again you'll see that there are 45 River View rooms (shown in dark blue) in the Alligator Bayou section, versus only 27 in the regular mansion buildings. So if you put in a request as well, there's every chance you'll get what you want.

I know I've seen the answer somewhere before and I apologize as I don't remember where. But, are the refrigerators at POR large enough to hold 2 gallons of milk?

I am hoping to book for November 2016 and POR is the resort that is #1 consideration right now. We will be traveling with our two kids (6,4,) and my in-laws so we'll be booking two rooms. I am hoping for Royal Guest rooms in the Oak Mansion, anyone know if there are connecting rooms there? (not even sure my in-laws will want the royal rooms, but we sure do!)

Yes, about 50% of the rooms at POR have internal connecting doors. Make sure you request Connecting rather than just Adjoining though.

He did on Friday 5 days late and 9lbs 9ozs! We weren't expecting a monster! I was able to change Arthur's name on our reservation even though we booked through a travel agent.

He's precious and I bet he's looking forward to his first Disney trip! Our 2nd was also a surprise 9lb monster. I was able to change my baby's name online as well. Did you say you are going in August? We are going in September but haven't told our other 3 kids yet...we were waiting to make sure baby is healthy. Now I get to figure out how to surprise them with the announcement! We have a group of 16 staying at POR...it's going to be magical!

Holy cats! A river room at POR going for $350 ?? Are we sure we are talking about a mod here?

Yes we're going in August, my sister is getting married on the Boardwalk and we are staying for two weeks for the wedding, our 5th anniversary and to celebrate Arthur's arrival.

As everything is listed in a spreadsheet now anyway to generate the graphs, I've been doing some more price analysis...

And by far the biggest shocker comes when you contrast the daily rates for the traditionally lower-priced months of September and October. At POR, the premium categories such as Pool View, Preferred Location and River View have gone up by between 21% and 27%! For example, a River View room would cost $236 per night in October 2015, whereas in October 2016 that exact same room will cost you $299 - a massive 26.7% increase!

Given that this is (no doubt completely coincidentally) the same period that the Disney Dining Plan is offered for free, it does rather confirm the old truism that “There Ain’t No Such Thing as a Free Lunch”.

I'm staying at POR for the first time in February. I reserved a Standard room but I would like to know, how far of a walk is that from the food court and boatwrights.

From the food court to boatwrights it's about 12 seconds if you take your time. If you mean how far is a standard room to boatwrights or the food court it depends on where the standard room is, it could be just about anywhere.

I wonder if there is some type of error or glitch for some of the pricing at POR. Like at POFQ, where there are many time periods where the garden view is less expensive than standard view. A river view at POR during most of October 2016 is $266/night which is up from $210/night in 2015. That seems like an excessive price increase given that the standard view and garden view rooms only went up around $7 to $8 a night for October 2016. The POR river view is actually more expensive than the royal rooms - doesn't make sense. Also, the pricing for garden view, pool view, and river view royal rooms are all priced the same for October 2016. It will be interesting to see if there are changes to the pricing for POR and POFQ

So....we just got back from WDW a couple of weeks ago. We stayed at CBR because POR wasn't available with a discount for our time frame....and our 9 yr old really wanted to stay there again since it was 6 years since we had stayed there. We sure missed our favorite resort...POR!!!!! Not that there is anything wrong with CBR at all...but we just really LOVE POR!!! So....we had received a PIN Code several weeks ago and we decided to put it to use and booked a quick weekend before Christmas and go to the MVMCP and just a couple of days at the parks!!
We have never been to POR during Chritmas season and are looking forward to seeing what it looks like all decorated!
:cool1:

Yes, that was exactly my point in the message you quoted. It seems to be related to the fact that the block from 18 Sept to 29 Oct is now classed as 'Regular' season rather than 'Fall' which it was in 2015. Whatever names they give it though, to the guest it means the price hike is huge! As it's a seasonal blocking change it won't affect just POR but other resorts too (depending on their differential between Regular and Fall rates).

I have raised this question (and the POFQ Garden/Standard pricing) with someone in a position to investigate it anyway.
