Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

How do you request buildings? It wasn't an option at early online check in? By faxing the requests?

You would have to add it to your requests by calling the Disney resort reservation number. But we didn't request that building. We were just lucky enough to get it. :)

You can actually fax a request, which is supposed to be better than calling. There is info on the first post of this thread.

Right, I knew you could fax thanks to the first thread (hence my mentioning of it :) Just wasn't sure if requesting buildings was even allowed or ever honored since it's not an option online.

Hi everyone! I'm so excited, we are FINALLY staying at POR this October. I've always wanted to stay there, but it's just never worked out, so I'm ECSTATIC. Doubly so that we get to stay in the Royal Guest Rooms. princess:

I have a quick question about the carriage rides. I'm hoping to try to book one as a surprise for my mom and my aunt as part of our girls' trip, and I was curious, is it better to try to book for a time before or after sunset? Are the pathways well-lit after dark or would it be difficult to see? We're going in late October so sunset will probably be around 6:30 or 7. If you've done the carriage rides, what was your experience?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions! :goodvibes

You can always ask. It has always been suggested to me that you ask more for what you need than just the building number. You can say "Closest to the buses, like building x," rather than just what building you want. That way if they can't give you the specific building number you want, they can figure out the next best thing.

We did a carriage ride last month. DH walked up and managed to book it for that night. We went at 8:00, so near dusk. Our route went through POFQ. We saw everything very well.

When you use Uber, is it easier to have them come to your building, or do you just meet them out by the lobby?

When we used Uber I don't think we requested a specific pick up place beyond Riverside. They came around the outer loop of the drop off area where Magical Express would pick you up. She had to circle back round for us, but said that's super common. I think next time I would just tell them to meet us there.

I just did our online check in and floor and corner room are an option so if that's what you would prefer (if offered) I say go for it.

That's exactly what I did :) I can't wait to see if they honor the request. If they don't I will still be more than happy to stay at POR :cloud9:

They stop at South last. We have encountered more than 1 time where the bus was too full for more guests by the time it reached South. But, another bus was already on it's way and often could be seen right behind the other. Maybe the drivers let them know to send more? No idea. We did prefer the East stop in the mornings for this reason. From the building with the pool the walk will be about even. We were in 95, the building next door and it was just another minute or so to East, since the South stop is clear across the front side of the resort.

Thank you so much!! That was exactly the information I was looking for! I will just use the East depot :-)

This is exactly what we requested (although we were in AB), and the requests were granted. Definitely worth a try. Have a great trip! :wave2:

Thank you  How awesome that they granted your requests. I will keep you updated if they honor mine as well!

I like corner rooms, it gives you an extra window, and upper floor. Less foot traffic going by room. We prefer the East Depot. The South (main) stop always seems very crowded and confusing. People Queue up on bus line, even when it's not their bus coming. So you can't tell who's in line for arriving bus and who isn't. At the satalite depots people just sit on the benches and wait, it's a lot more relaxing.

Thanks for the information. I can imagine that people get confused at the South depot. I try to avoid it if I can ;)

The whole thread has been so helpful. Thanks to all of you who contribute to it. I already learned so much and I feel much more prepared. I am sure it will make my trip more magical :wizard:

...I still have to find out if it makes sense to order online from Amazon and ship it to either POR or AKL

We booked a last minute adults only trip and as of now staying at riverside. I will be using an ECV and a bit concerned ab the busses....that they will have both ECV spots filled by the time it gets to me. What area should we try to request? Anything else I should know? I wil ask on the disabilities board too but figured you guys are resort experts :)

Can't wait to be coming home soon!!
Will be staying at POR after our EBPC cruise ^_^ So excited!! :goodvibes

I prefer checking in with a person on site, however, I do have some room requests and will on a cruise prior.
As I obviously cannot fax 3-5 days prior, would the online check in be best?
Can I still check in with a CM when we arrive at the resort?

Thank you :)

I would call the Main Reservations line and have your room requests added to your reservation. This way you're not limited to the options during Online Check In. Whether you do Online Check In or not you can always still check in with a CM in person. It's what we like to do also.

Thank you :) I believe I have the requests noted via phone already but I shall double check.

Wonderful! I shall have to do that tomorrow, thank you :)

We are not going until next August :( but I have a question about refillable mugs. Can you ask the cm behind the bar at the main pool to fill your mug instead of going to the main quick service restaurant? I know it's not far but I would rather not go inside wet and wearing a swimming costume. I know they do at the Springs at SSR. Thank you

Well you could, but they would charge you the regular menu price for the drink. To get free refills though, you need to go to the food court.

Does anyone know what the closest grocery store is to POR? Walmart, Target, Publix whatever. I need to get a few items and trying to figure out if its cheaper to take Uber to a store or just go with Garden Grocer. Thanks!

We will be staying in POR with FD on 9/2. I am thinking of arriving a day earlier. Their is room availability and we will be arriving after 6pm. What is the possibility of us keeping the same room for our whole vacation?

The closest is the old Goodings store at crossroads, followed probably by Walmart on Vineland Rd (SR-535). The gas stations have a few essentials too.

Pretty good, they will certainly try their best to continue your room if they can (booking the same room category helps of course). Make sure the two bookings are linked on the system in advance, and perhaps fax 3-5 days out.

We really liked being in building 25. The pool there is very nice. The building is close to the west depot, which is usually the first stop for the park buses. And it didn't seem that far to the food court. :)

ETA: I checked the room map and it looks like building 16 has a lot of pool view rooms. It would be close to both the food court and the south bus depot, which is the depot closest to the food court.

Thanks for the help!
