Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

Hey all!

Just over a week away from my second stay at POR. Super excited!!!

Here's my question (I tried the search function and read the past 20 pages of the thread w/ no luck) -- what are the chances of meeting Louis? I see that there were "character interactions" listed for Mardi Gras, although it didn't say who the characters were. On my last visit I was lucky enough to meet Louis and Princess Tiana outside the main lobby. But it was Halloween so I'm wondering if he's only out on special days.

TIA!

Just booked our 1st trip to POR! We are going with family (8 adults and 3 kids) in November for 8 nights. We have a royal room and 3 standards booked (our kids will love the royal room plus it gives us a little separation). All rooms are standard. I am SO excited!!

Yes, absolutely. Any and all requests are up to the resort. All we can do is ask and cross fingers!

I requested it and didn't get it. If that happens though, ask if they can move you. They didn't have a room on the first floor when I checked in, but they did the next day, so I just moved.

You will love POR. Enjoy!

what are the chances of meeting Louis?

I'd say slim to none I'm afraid. Planned character greetings are very rare (mainly just for holidays like Easter or 4th July) and the only other times you might get lucky would be during really bad weather when they bring characters in for families who are not getting to the parks. And even then you're more likely to see 'standard' characters rather than Louis.

Sweet, the bridge will be open when we get there Sunday. Our room is basically going to be a surprise. I told them I didn't care if they put us in the mansions or AB as long as it was close to the main building. We'll see what they come through with.

Excited! We arrive on March 1st, this will be our first Riverside stay. The last to visits were French quarter, we love the area. Any soft pool openings? please post in regard to bridge opening.

Great vacations to all.

We arrive today, so I'll be sure to let you know if I hear or see anything

Hopefully the bridge will be opening today.

As for the pool, I can't see it being ready much before the targeted 4 March. While the main pool itself has been refilled now, the surrounding area is still very much a work-in-progress (and the pool-bar staff have been given a first access date of 2 March to start restocking). This photo from Thursday, and I should be getting more updates most days during next week:

The bridge reopened yesterday but it appears the pool is several days from opening. There are sections of fencing yet to be installed and the building containing Muddy Rivers continues to undergo work. I've seen numerous workers on the island every morning this week by 7 am

Greetings. Heading to POR in a little over 50 days and I had heard rumors that Riverside has hosted large groups in the past (Pop Warner, "15's" Cheerleaders, etc.) and I was a little nervous because I had heard that there is a cheer competition at Disney's Sports Complex (April 23rd - 29th) while we are there. Does anyone know if this year's cheer group has POR as one of their resort choices? Not biased or against such groups, but it would help with planning eating and busses at the resort if there are going to be big groups there. Thanks.
My friend's DD's dance group is booked at POR 3rd week of April. (Also, i can't remember the last time I stayed at POR when there wasn't a high school group of some sort - i.e., it isn't just the large groups that have websites like Pop, cheer groups that could be at POR en masse.) HTH.

Yeah, I was just going to post that the bridge reopened around 5pm yesterday. The pool is on schedule to be handed back to resort staff on Friday 4th March as planned, but it may not reopen to guests until Saturday as they will need to sort out the chair locations, do some lifeguard retraining (as one of the stations has been moved), etc. So maybe Friday if there is time, but more likely Saturday.

I was checking out room views over on touring plans site. Under room type, there was an option that said "preffered King/Queen room). When I clicked on that one it showed 2 rooms in building 15 and said 1 King and 1 queen. Is this an error on that site? Is there really any rooms that have 1 King and 1 queen bed? I have never heard this

I put a picture in next post. Mods delete if I'm not allowed to do that....I wasn't sure and didn't think I could post direct link to it

That's a specially adapted connecting room combination for disabled guests who need wheelchair access and who have five people in their party (which is not otherwise possible in a single AB room, as the wheelchair access modifications means there isn't then enough room for the bench seat with fold-down bed). It is very unlikely that any guests without special accessibility needs would be assigned to this pair of rooms.

So close to having it opened for my trip! I left last Wednesday.

Well, that makes sense then. I thought it was strange as I hadn't heard about it before. Thank you! You really are the Port Orleans specialist!!

Thanks for the replies! I guess I can be happy I've managed to meet him once in the past.

We arrive at POR tomorrow night. Glad the footbridge is open. Excited to see what room we get placed in. I didn't distinguish AB or Mansions in my room request. I just asked for close proximity to the food court. Can already tell I won't be able to sleep tonight. I guess I better go pack.
