Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE Resort

We just switched over to Riverside, haven't stayed in this area since early 90s and it was at Dixie Landings. We booked preferred location. Excited for the food court and the access to Springs for food options. We'll be there in September for about a week. Looking forward to it.
You will so love it. Some people say its too big but I never get that feeling. Its peaceful and so beautiful with the river running through it. You need to make sure you take the boat trip to Disney Springs. It takes a bit of time but its so nice and you don't have to worry about driving. We find the resort location so perfect that we can get to any destination easily.

Oh the boat trip is on my list to do, that's one of the reasons we choose this hotel. The peacefulness is one of the things I look forward to.

Back from POR :-(. Can't believe it is over already! As usual, we were thrilled with the resort. Sent in a fax using the template and received all of our requests. Cast members were all very nice, and Yeehaw Bob was awesome as usual. Bus service was very good. Only had one "long wait" (relative...depends on what you consider long)...about 40 mins for HS, but keep in mind that we were heading into Osborn lights, so I am sure that was part of the issue rather than a POR issue. The screen said 4:04, but bus didn't come until closer to 4:45. We weren't panicked, though, bc we knew HS buses were having trouble keeping up with the Osborn crowds, so we built plenty of time into our schedule. I did miss the "gloved" CMs who used to stand at the entrance to POR waving to you as you arrived, saying, "Welcome Home!"...just a small piece, but something I really enjoyed....always joke that I want to do that as my retirement job...now it looks like my retirement job has been cut by Disney :-(. Magical Express worked very well and luggage made it's way back home safely, even with a 2.5 hr flight delay. (Though magical express bus felt like it took forever to leave the airport upon arrival. We waited in line for about 15 mins for bus, then had to sit on bus for about 45 mins before it left..then it stopped at other resorts on way to POR so it took a long time to arrive at POR. Flight landed at about 8:15, but we didn't make it to our room (skipped front desk) until closer to 10:30-11 pm). Oh yeah, love the Royal Rooms. Besides the obvious touches of the room, I especially enjoy the privacy curtain near the bathroom sinks....There with DH, DS16 and DD9...Nice for someone to be able to get ready in toilet/tub area, someone to get ready behind privacy curtain, and someone else continue sleeping or get ready by beds. Also, I appreciate the little shelf by the sinks (and like the double sinks), so we can put toiletries on there rather than junk up the whole sink area. Housekeeping was awesome...room very clean, several trashcans available, and left cute towel animals most days. DD loved the quiet pools. She swam once in main pool, but preferred the quiet pool and swam in that 4 days....so, anyone worried about main pool being closed for renovations, I wouldn't discount resort just for that....that is very minor compared to the rest of the awesomeness of the resort, plus you still have the quiet pools. DH had the runs two days...one day we were questioning if it was from the tea machine with the refillable mugs, as he thought tea tasted funny (stopped drinking it, but ended up with runs for a few hours......then again for few hours next day)...could happen anywhere, though....even back home at fast food places...just be careful with anything tasting funny out of the machines. Nevertheless, we had a great trip and POR was 110% terrific as usual...will stay there again without question :-)!

Can we bring a cooler into the pool area? I know the rules say no food or drink but that seems unreasonable to not have anything to drink. And with DH being diabetic we really need some snacks.

I think it means no food or drinks in the pool. It's fine to eat the on the deck away from the pool. We always have our refillable mugs with us at our lounge chairs.

We have taken a few snacks and our refillable mugs and near had any issues. We have never taken in an actual cooler, but a small bag of snacks.

The rules are no food or drink in the pool, or on the immediate poolside edge area. Food and drinks are fine in the seating area surrounding the pool (including bringing stuff from your room or the food court) but no glass containers.

Is there any refurbs scheduled in 2016 for POR? If so anyone know of estimated completion? Thanks. Considering switch from contemp garden wing to Royal rooms for my two daughters 6&3. Thought they would like he theme much more and if I get a good discount I can save some money b

Just back from our FL trip. 12/14-19 garden view room bldg 39. 12/19-21 royal room parterre place, bldg 95. I loved both of the rooms. Did get to see yehaw bob 12/19, great show as always. The headboard at the royal room was magical for our 3 y/o granddaughter. One boat ride from Disney springs to POR, so relaxing. There never is really enough time to enjoy the resort, always busy in the parks. I usually rent a car but didn't this trip, our flight landed at 11am, we were checking into the resort about 12:30. Magical express stopped at four resorts before ours, but most of us got off at POR.

Nothing too major as yet (once the main pool closure is complete around 4 March anyway). See www.portorleans.org/rehab.php for the latest info though, as Disney's current policy is not to publically release major refurbishment information any sooner than three months out. There will probably be something happening over at French Quarter during the summer, but I obviously won't be able to confirm that for a few months.

I don't really use the pool, so the closure won't bother me. How much does it affect the look of the grounds though? Is it really ugly?

We were down there a week ago at CBR and really loved it. We decided to go down to Disney again the last week of September and did a bounceback offer. There will be 3 couples between 2 rooms at Riverside. We are staying in the same room with one couple and the other booked their bounceback with a king.

Are there any King bed rooms that connect with a standard 2 queens?

Hi!!
Has anyone stayed in Alligator Bayou rooms 1412 or 1444? Is the location awesome as it seems it would be?
Are they corner rooms? I hope I'm reading Andre's maps correctly!! :thumbsup2
We have stayed at Riverside several times but always in the mansions so I'm trying to get a handle on the AB side of the resort.

Thanks for your help!! :goodvibes

Looking to switch from POR FQ to Riverside for our spring trip. Is the preferred rooms worth it??

My DH & I think so. We only book Preferred & usually end up in the building that we love which is 15. Close to everything. Have stayed at FQ & the mansion side of POR but prefer the AB Preferred section over them all.
