Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

But, let me add, I haven't received an email like some PPs. Maybe July 11 (our timeframe is the 11th through 18th) is not definite?

The dates (and the scale of the project) have been shifting around for months now. Originally it was meant to have started in May, then mid-August, and now they seem to have settled on 11 July. Having announced it officially and emailed guests though, I rather doubt the start date will change now.

That said, Disney does currently seem appallingly bad at confirming and releasing this kind of information to guests in a timely manner. Heck, they haven't even released the extended hours for the MK and DHS for July 4th as yet, and that's only three weeks away! In past years, that info would have been announced months in advance to allow guest to make plans, but currently the schedules still show the MK closing at 10pm and DHS at 8:30pm (even earlier than regular days in June!)

I guessed from your earlier post that something like this was going on. I appreciate the info that you are able to give.

Yes, that's why they are working on the Bonfamille's location at the moment, that will be used as a replacement for the food court for the duration of the refurb. I've known about this work as an upcoming project since this time last year, but until the dates were finally confirmed (the plans have moved and been adjusted, and I believe also downscaled, several times) I was asked not to release anything officially. I did lay as many heavy hints as I could in my April news post about Bonfamille's though... see http://www.portorleans.org/news.php?first=300416

I had seen those posts from you and wondered today if that's what that work had been about :)

When they say they will have a bus to riverside will it be a seperate bus or will it be just get on the first bus that comes and it heads to riverside? Anyone know their usual standard or practice ?

I sent an email to Disney addressing the refillable drink station. I got the email from them about the closure, but it doesn't mention refilling the mugs at all. I hope they do not expect us to go to Riverside to refill the mugs that come with the dining plan. If so, this will be very inconvenient.

So if Bonfamille will be used, will it be a traditional QS location? The email says favorites like beignets, po boys, etc, but no mention of breakfast, other than grab n go. We are often offsite for dinner or can go to Riverside for that, but it would be tough to corral everyone first thing to Riverside, take bus, and make rope drop. Thoughts?

Is Bonfamille Cafe going to be the location, or is this speculation? I'm wondering if they will be offering a kids menu, or just the items listed...

So has anyone heard of an end date for this one? I'm helping my friend plan and she just booked POFQ a couple of days ago because I highly recommended it. I would hate for this to be going on while she is there. She's checking in Oct. 14th

I received the email from Disney about this today and our check-in date is October 26th.

September plans here... I sure appreciate this thread keeping me informed. Thank you!

I'm confused. I received the email today too, but we are checking OUT on July 8th. Why would I get the email if the project doesn't start until the 11th?

Bonfamille's is definitely going to be used as the temporary food location, they have been working on preparing it for a while. I doubt they will have the complete menus that the regular food court did though, the area just isn't big enough, but they will be serving hot food rather than only grab'n'go chilled items.

I assume they will install a drinks fountain too, but perhaps only one row rather than two? I'll see what more I can find out now that the cat is officially out of the bag on the subject.

Personally I think less than a month's notice is really bad, and I know some people at the resort have been frustrated at the constantly changing plans and timelines which were preventing an announcement being made. This has been in long-term planning for several years - I knew about it in June last year, but at that time there was just a nebulous May-Sept timeline, and I was asked not to mention it until they had firmed up the dates and put a guest information plan into place. I didn't expect that to be this tight to the actual work though.

Thank you Andre for all the great information. We go in less than a month, so we're kinda shocked to hear this news so close. However, this shouldn't be a game changer for us and we will just roll with it. Thanks again!

I'm sure this has been answered a million times. But why is POFQ excluded from discounts? :/ I'm taking a last minute trip in August with my Mom and really wanted to stay at one of the PO resorts. Riverside is about $300 more expensive than CSR, and POFQ isn't even open for the discount. I know this is typical, but I wasn't sure why?
Try contacting the TA that has the magical deals. I just got a room at POFQ for our last trip for ~$170 total (one night). The Disney price was around $70 more.

Excited to be staying at the French Quarter for the first time in October! I enjoyed Riverside a few years ago, but my room was too far away from the main building and I didn't like having multiple bus stops. I booked a standard 2 queens room and using Touring Plans' room finder decided that I will try to request 3rd floor building 4 because it had a good view for standard and was close to the bus stop and main building. Anyone stayed in building 4 on the parking lot side before that can attest to this?

I recently requested 'near transportation' and I got building 5 right by the stairs that are across from building 4. It was a good location. I had booked a std room. Buildings 3 & 4 are very popular because they are std rooms near food/buses. I requested building 4 on our prior trip and I got building 5 as well (I don't mind building 5 as it's still pretty close and it had a nice garden view although I paid for std).

I think that requesting 3rd floor building 4 is too specific but good luck.

If this somehow isn't done by the time we go I may have a fit. I didn't get the email so fingers crossed...
