Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

I called last night, trying to find out more information. I had 4 different cast members retread the email to me. Seems no one has any answers. I just hope they can accommodate the traffic that will be coming through Bonfamille's.

Why is everyone wanting to switch resorts? There is a perfectly good alternative option being put in place for while the food court is being refurbished. Nothing to get all panicky about as far as I can see.

The reservation centre won't be able to tell you anything that's not in the information sheet they've been sent though (they are just a call center). Since it says exactly the same as the guest email that has already been mentioned, I can't see they can object to it being quoted here:

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory food court refurbishment

In order to continue delivering the best possible experience for our Guests, we are commited to refreshing and enhancing our offerings. Beginning July 11, Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory food court will be closed for future enhancements. When assisting Guests with reservations at Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts through this fall, please share these alternative food and beverage options:
  • An alternative dining experience will be available adjacent to the lobby and Scat Cat’s Lounge. This location will be serving Guest favorites such as jambalaya, gumbo, po-boy sandwiches, other hot and cold entrees and our famous beignets. A selection of grab ‘n’ go meals also will be available for purchase.
  • Guests can dine at Riverside Mill Food Court or have dinner at Boatwright’s Dining Hall (open from 5-10 p.m.) at our neighboring resort, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. Bus transportation will run from 7 a.m.-midnight to accommodate Guests who wish to take advantage of this alternative.
  • In-room pizza delivery service will continue to be available from 4 p.m.-midnight. The menu includes pizza, hot and cold sandwiches and pasta, which can be ordered by pressing “Dining Options” on your in-room phone.

There are a few rather pointless reactive FAQs too, which just reiterate the date as 11 July until Fall, the fact that the dining plan will be accepted, and that there will be no noise impact in the guest accommodation areas "while you are enjoying your room" (yes, that's how it's written in Disney-speak).

I didn't get the email and I check in Sept 25th and stay 4 nights. Now I don't know what to do. I'm using a military rate and it wasn't available at Riverside, but they didn't tell me the food court would be down when I booked. I'm staying for a work conference so I was banking on that close proximity for breakfast before heading out. What a mess.

No email for us either and we are checking in the end of September. I'm going to rather disappointed if there is not a station for mugs and if a full QS menu isn't offered. I'm tempted to change resorts or maybe Disney will offer us a discount if some sort. I had to push for others going with us to book rather than other mods, I argued they still have a full QS and its smaller so it's worth the extra money compared to the other mods..but now not so sure.

. What a mess.

Why a mess? There will be an alternative to the food court provided, located in the old Bonfamille's restaurant area. And of course it will serve breakfast, and provide drinks too. We don't know the exact menu details as yet (I'm not sure even Disney know that yet) but I would suspect it may be slightly trimmed down from the original food court options (but then that menu changes regularly anyway).

However I am quite certain that Disney won't let their guests starve!

I'm thinking lines and limited menu. The space won't be the same as it was before, who knows what will actually be grab and go, and as silly as it is I want some confirmation that Mickey waffles will be there. I just don't like that when I booked literally a few days ago it wasn't mentioned. I'll live, but it sort of irks me. I want to be able to get in and out and not be cramped.

I know what you mean, less than 30 days notice to guests is really not acceptable when Disney have had this project in the planning stages for years. It was originally mooted for May, then it was moved to late August as recently as a month ago, and finally they decide on starting it during the busiest month of the year?!

Of course from their point of view I assume they feel it won't be too serious an impact to guests as they have put acceptable alternative options in place. However I tend to agree with you that Bonfamille's isn't really big enough to handle the same number of people (or probably the same range of dining options) as the food court, and I'm sure guests will spill out into Scat Cat's too (which will be an additional problem if they continue to offer musical entertainment there in the evenings, which I believe is currently the intention).

Does anyone know if we will be able to use tables in wonderland if we do access the food court at Riverside during the refurbishment? That's one of the little hidden perks of eating at French quarter in my opinion.

Yes, as there is no table-service location at POFQ it should still be accepted.

Andre

I think what wendybeth75 was asking is will Riverside accept the TIW for the food court during the renovation of POFQ, since it usually does not.

I wouldn't have thought so, as there's no reason for them to since Boatwright's already takes TiW. The only food courts which accept TiW are ones where there is no full-service location at the same resort.

So, Since Riverside has a table-service location, they do not take TIW for QS...correct? Even for those from POFQ who take the special bus just for dining?

Correct. If FQ was not providing any alternate food location then they might offer the discounts at POR instead, but I really doubt they will do so when there is going to a replacement food court at FQ anyway. i.e. it would be your choice if you decided that you preferred to eat at Riverisde (or anywhere else come to that).

If we didn't receive an email does that mean that this wont coincide with our stay? We are arriving Nov 29th.

Are there any images of the Bonfamille area? Just wondering what it looks like.

Do you not read the news posts on my site? ;) http://www.portorleans.org/news.php?first=140616

This is how it looked last Christmas when it was specially re-opened (as table service) for the festive period:
