Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

So for my dates 11-15 of February, the hottub and pool are both closed for refurb. I called and confirmed. Although I was told the Riversides facilities are "right there".

LOL

Uhm. Suuure. I can't imagine walking or even shuttling between resorts all wet in Feb.

This kind of sucks. I'm not switching resorts, but... Sigh.. It is disappointing.

There is a very nice bathroom and shower house right at the riverside pool. Take a change of clothes with you and dress there. Not ideal, maybe but it could work.

Enjoy everything else, anway!

I agree, my DD was looking forward to checking out the pool. I guess if it is warm enough, we will head to POR to swim.

I guess it will give me a chance to check out POR for the first time. At least it is only the pool and not the food court.

Just one more day and we will be checking into POFQ... I have goosebumps.

I need to call and ask the FQ to wash our bedsheets in a very gentle/hypo allergenic detergent. Does anyone know when I should call (week before? sooner or later) and what detergent they will use? We had a severe allergic reaction during our last trip and the doctor suggested that among other things that we always use certain detergents. We use a scent free, hypoallergenic, green detergent at home...I'm tempted just to bring our own bedsheets and ask them not to change them.

Bringing your own prob would be easier. No risk that way. What about a few towels

I have 1month and 2 weeks of sleeps before we check in to the POFQ. I am looking forward to it. Just not looking forward to packing.

Oh man! I didn't even think about the towels. Thank you for mentioning it! Perhaps I'll bring detergent just in case. I'm assuming there are washing machines and dryers...hmm, short trip though so maybe a couple towels would be enough.

Have you tried calling the wdw disabilities line? (407-560-2547) Or checking the disabilities board? If I'm remembering correctly, they have a system in place for those with similar allergies/sensitivities that you describe.

Although it might be easier for you to bring your own towels & sheets if you have the ability (room in luggage, time for washing). If you decide to go this route, there are self-serve washers & dryers near the pool. Washers are $2 per load and dryers are $2 for an hour. The machines only take credit/debit cards (no coins).

After 2 years of planning, we've finally arrived! We're at POFQ, have a king size bed and a great view of the Waterway. Couldn't be better. CMs have all been great. White beds with a colorful runner are a nice touch. I don't see what all the fuss is about. The room has a gentle New Orleans feel. My wife says we got pixie dust because of the water view. Tonight we're seeing La Nouba, then a bite at The House of Blues. Animal Kingdom tomorrow!

I agree with a PP, I would definately bring my own sheets and pillow cases. I would not take a chance.

We are here now. My son has life threatening allergies so I asked for the special room clean and sheets/towels washed with the non scented detergent. I called twice to the main reservation line and once to the motel itself three days before we arrived and made sure it was on our reservation. I also asked the hotel direct if the drawers were also cleaned and we're told everything would be taken care of.

When we checked I to the room I noticed the dust on the bathroom counter and shelf above the ironing board. I shrugged it off and wiped it with a wet bath cloth. I figured I better check elsewhere and that is when I found the potato chip in the drawer. Grabbed clorox wipes and started cleaning. Threw away the Nestlé chocolate wrapper on the floor by the table and started cleaning really good. I figured at this point that our requests were not honored but it was too late now to have to wait for them to clean a room. A few hours later when getting into the shower, my son stepped on the cover to a disposable razor. That was my breaking point. I finally went and complained. The room wasn't cleaned at all, much less a special clean. No correctly washed sheets, either.

Bring your own. Don't count on them.

Hello,

I was wondering if there is anything special happening at POFQ for New Year's Eve. Is it possible to see any fireworks from the resort? We have kids and we were going to avoid the parks in the evening. Any recommendations of early evening activities around the resorts?

Thanks!!!

The December 2013 Recreation Activities and Movie Schedules is available in Post # 664 of this thread. It has activities listed for New Years Eve. Don't know about the fireworks.

We are here now and are very pleased.

The lobby is beautiful. Check in went very smoothly. The cast members are very friendly. We did' not make any requests and were given a king size bed (our originally booked room) on a second floor in the corner with a river view.

The room is perfect. Clean. The bathroom is small but has a bowed out shower rod and there is a nice granite ledge for storage. There is a double sink with a granite ledge above for storage and a wood shelf below for storage.

The safe is very small and locks with a key.

There is a coat rack with a shelf above.

There is a dresser/entertainment center with 3 large dresser drawers. I bought hanging shelves from e-bags for storage also. There is a refrigerator that holds a lot.

There is some wear and tear but we are not at all unhappy. I asked for a sharps container, a few extra hangers and extra shampoo. Within 5 minutes of calling, someone was there with everything.

We had lunch there. I had a quesadilla with rice and beans. My husband had a cheeseburger and fries. We both had beignets for dessert. The food was so-so but the beignets were great. We saw others with monster ice cream sandwiches made with cookies.

We took the boat to Downtown Disney. We saw La Nouba for the third time. My husband went to get me some water and was given a bag of cotton candy for our anniversary which we gave to a young girl seated near us. We are dinner at House of Blues which was delicious. We shared the fried chicken which was 4 large pieces. It was crunchy on the outside with a bit of spice and juicy on the inside. I had the red skinned garlic Nash and cole slaw -- the coleslaw tasted very refreshing while my husband had the Mac and cheese which was big enough for a meal. We split the jalapeño cornbread with maple butter. We could not finish it all. Our server was the best. For a little shy of $50 we had dinner, a side of cornbread, a side of Mac and cheese, 2 beers and an iced tea.

We are off to Animal Kingdom today with dinner at Yak and Yeti then head to Downtown Disney to see Frozen at 7:30.

It is very warm...in the 80's. The pool looks nicer in person than on line with plenty of seating, towels and life guards.

Our magic bands work great.

Sounds great!! Thanks for the details!

Did you fly and take ME? How long between landing and arriving at FQ ?
