Resort Thread Disney's PORT ORLEANS FRENCH QUARTER Resort

I may do this. Is there a building that I should request near feature pool? We were looking for a hot tub

Closest Preferred Location building to the feature pool at Riverside would be building 14, but none of them are terribly far. Ol' Man Island is accessed via a bridge next to the food court.

Honestly if I was going to switch it would be to go to Riverside. We loved it there. The only other switch I would consider is the Coronado springs tower but they costs a lot more.

I think I decided to stay at FQ and if the weather is good- we will walk to PO. We mainly wanted FQ for food and bus. We are only swimming 1 day then going to party.

If we did do preferred at PO- is the busy to and from Magic kingdom first stop? Does the bus als go to FQ for park?

On the other side is it a long walk to the main pool from FQ?

How are the buses at rope drop? We usually stay at a value so are used to the bus lines being roped off. Just wondering if it's harder to get a bus early when lots of people are waiting?

We have never had to catch a second bus at rope drop. Always got on the first bus that came after we got to the bus stop.

What time are you taking the bus to the MK? Riverside buses can be busy in the morning. Riverside and FQ rarely share buses to parks. Usually only mid-day during uncrowded times, if at all. It would be about a 10 minute walk to the Riverside pool.

I just booked for December. I thought booking three months in advance was considered a last minute trip (which I did in 2010), but booking less than three weeks out is definitely last minute. Five nights at Coronado Springs and then six nights at POFQ. This will be a different kind of trip for me as my husband passed in September (and my father in February) so this is a first solo trip and I will be facing the old memories (five stays at POFQ with dh) and making new ones. I can do things this trip that I couldn't do before, like spend some time walking around POR, people-watching in the parks, parades and night shows, and not having any set schedule because I won't be making any dining reservations or scheduling times for attractions, a total wing-it trip.

Sorry for your losses. Hopefully WDW will soothe your mourning. I have taken 2 solo trips and both were at French Quarter..perfect for it given the boat to Springs). Have as great a time you can based on the circumstances.

What is the nightstand outlet situation in the renovated rooms? Are there outlets on the other sides of the beds? Seems like our night stand is always a tangled mess of phone cords.

Just got back from a fabulous trip. I stayed in building 3 on the third floor. I had one of the walk in/standing showers. I can’t believe there wasn’t any type of safety rail or bar in that shower. It wasn’t slippery but that seems like such a liability. Are all the walk in showers at Disney like that?

The walk-in/roll-in showers in Accessible rooms do have handrails. The new room styles don't though, as far as I know - come to that, mine at home doesn't either, so it wouldn't have occurred to me as odd.

we got a brand new room in building #1 and it's absolutely gorgeous. We are in love with all the extra little touches and the storage is simply A-MAZ-ING! Only the two of us but with the numerous dietary restrictions I have and other complicated medical challenges we usually struggle with finding places to store things. Not a problem now, moved the coffee supplies to the top shelf and have turned the rest of that area into our mini pantry/medicine cabinet. There's also plenty of room for the microwave between that section of the counter and the TV. The beverage cooler in our room is even functioning well enough to safely store the small amount of dairy and medication we need. I always carry an instant read thermometer at it read 36°in a glass of water.
Some have asked about the scooter situation, we're in a 2 queen room and it fits beside the door, next to that bed, the cord is long enough to reach the outlet over beside the bench. We'll probably switch up beds to sleep in tonight and leave it under the window - hubby had trouble getting in and out of bed, the sliding door to the bathroom looks great but leaves very little space to walk on that side of the bed

I know this will only apply to a few people who require special foods but what the entire culinary team has done for me both before we arrived and for our initial meal is what Disney magic is. They have sourced food that's safe for me and it is being kept stored on a separate cart in the kitchen, away from other food.
First meal was a baked potato with beef and white cheddar cheese sauce

The pastry chef sourced special flour, chocolate chips, vanilla, Greek Yogurt and more to make up muffins that are safe for me to eat. She's packaged them up so I can carry them around in my park bag!

For anyone who did Rope Drop at MK or Epcot from POFQ, what time did the first bus get there? Thanks!

I made a last-minute trip for January and have never stayed at the French Quarter. How far is the QS restaurant from the outer buildings? I want to refill my water bottle with ice/water before catching a bus and trying to figure out the timing for all.
