May I ask where you are seeing this? I think it would be wonderful, just cannot find any announcements of such refurbishments being made. Once a reliable source is provided, I will update Post 1 to reflect this change. Thanks!

I have heard that disney is switching out the mini fridges for cooler fridges. Meaning that it is not good for keeping perishables. Does pop have regular mini fridges or these cooler fridges. My daughter likes to have yogurt in the morning so we like to have it in the room. Worried it would not be cold enough.

They are just the beverage coolers. Not cold enough for Milk etc. It was at 41 degrees on the coldest setting. We added about 4 large bags of ice from the ice machine and got it down to about 38.5 degrees consistently inside (I brought a thermometer to test). We put in new bags of ice each morning and evening. Kept the milk on top of the ice as much as possible. We felt it was safe enough for milk as long as we had the ice bags in there.

We stayed at Pop for one night last June. I travel with a refrigerator thermometer. We definitely had a beverage cooler (I believe that all Pop rooms have beverage coolers -- I think they were put in during the last remodel). It stayed at about 36 degrees for the 12 hours we were in the room. The waters we had in the back of the fridge were starting to freeze by morning. I didn't pull the cooler out to see what the temperature setting was (there's a dial on the back of the unit) because we only had drinks in the cooler and they were definitely cold.

I've heard many people say their water froze a bit in the beverage coolers but I've also seen people say their milk spoiled. A little trick that some people use is to bring some ziploc bags and fill them with ice from the ice machine. Put your perishable items in the beverage cooler and put the bags of ice around those items to keep them colder. If you can bring a thermometer with you, that will help take the guess work out of it and you'll know if the unit is cold enough to keep dairy items at a safe temperature. And remember that a beverage cooler or refrigerator won't feel cold inside if it's empty. You will have to put some food/drinks in it for a little while for things to start to feel cool. I see a lot of people say they get to their rooms (at any resort) and they open the fridge/cooler door and it's not cold inside. That's normal.

They are now the "beverage coolers". However, every one that we've had has been able to keep Milk, lunch meat, cheese, yogurt etc plenty cold. It all depends on the individual unit. We've had a couple mini fridges that didn't.

Got an upgrade offer from Pop to CSR, CBR or AoA. Turns out it was a paid offer and I asked about CSR Tower and it was available- for approx 10% off rack rate. I'm really proud of myself I didn't start laughing out loud until I hung up the phone. The exact room is currently available at the general public discount rate of 20% and even deeper discount for APs. I think this is the worst paid upgrade offer I've ever heard tell of.

Looking forward to my much cheaper Pop stay :rotfl2:

Did they ever call them refrigerators? I thought they were always "coolers"
There was a time when Pop did NOT have mini fridges or coolers. Many of us joined little groups where someone would buy a mini-fridge and use it for a particular vacation time, then store it with luggage services until the next person in the group needed it and so on and so on. I was actually one of the people who bought a fridge and a number of people sent me $10. I'd venture a guess that there were probably 20 or more such groups going. WDW eventually got mini fridges for the Value resorts so the fridge groups were phased out. They were mini fridges with a little freezer compartment. My understanding is that the backs of those fridges got really hot because they were poorly ventilated and became fire hazards. Then Pop turned to "Beverage Coolers." They work fine for our purposes and I've never had trouble with my dairy products. I always like a lot of ice, so putting a couple bags of ice in the cooler can serve more than one purpose. (I feel so old now!)

That’s a trip down memory lane. Our first two trips in 2010 and 2011 were at Pop before the current room style. I think there were coolers done? I don’t remember, but I know we got groceries from garden grocer on both of those trips and the kids had cereal in the morning and we have cream cheese and bagels so I’m guessing so?

Then we were back at Pop in 2018 very soon after the refurb that made the rooms look like they do now. (Before current ongoing refurb). That was a HUGE upgrade in my opinion. Plus, the refrigerator was definitely NICE size and may have had the freezer section like you mentioned. We will be there next week and I will have my half-and-half creamer in the refrigerator, but everything else can just be cool like monster, energy drinks, and soda and waters. I don’t don’t remember them ever calling them refrigerators, regardless. It’s really no big deal and doesn’t really matter if I’m right or wrong. I just don’t remember.

Love your bags of ice trick. I will have to remember that for next week. We use the ice bag trick on our cruises. When the room steward brings the stainless container of ice, we put it in our small refrigerator cause they are always terrible for keeping things cold.

Wow they tried scamming you. I bet it works sometimes though as no one thinks Disney will actively screw them over like that.

I can't say I've ever had them rip me off, but I've definitely had CMs subtly mislead me, particularly when making reservations. I've had to ask very pointed questions to get the correct information.

Hmmm that’s so funny they would try that🥴😑. I wonder if they overbooked due to all the renovations, if you don’t mind me asking…is your trip soon? I know for privacy reasons I don’t need an exact date but was curious !

It’s not until Sept and all room types are still available for booking.

(I think someone’s computer programming ran amuck.)

Will someone post updates on the lobby refresh? I’m wondering if they’re going to get rid of the shadow boxes?!
I would anticipate since it just started we don’t have an answer to this yet. Normally they block an area to refurbish it. Until a portion of it is refurbished I don’t think we’ll know the answer to this.

I’m hoping they keep them or an updated version of them also.

Anything is possible with The Mouse, but I highly doubt they would remove such a unique part of Pop Century.

Of course they did recently remove the framed pictures in the All- Star lobbies and replace them with murals so it is possible.

But the Shadow Boxes are on a different level of theming than framed pictures.

If they do remove them it will NOT be Groovy!

Checked in yesterday. I can confirm that one of the 60s buildings is currently under refurb. I’ve circled it below if I find other buildings, I will comment on them during our stay.

If there’s any work being done in the lobby, I could not tell. It all looked completely normal yesterday.
