Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

We aren't really travelers and I am not sure about tipping. Who do we tip and what is the "going" rates? Thanks! It will be my family of 5 and my Inlaws in two rooms. We requested connecting.

I prepare envelopes ahead of time, and I tape it to the bathroom mirror each morning, and I write FOR MOUSEKEEPING on it, so there is no question. I usually tip $1 per person each day.

My husband and I are staying at Pop coming up soon! We booked a preferred room. Any recommendations on what we should request for the online check in? I'm definitely thinking request a higher floor, but not sure about which buildings are best or if I should ask for lake view. I'm hoping the preferred room part takes care of requesting to be near transportation.

You don't want to request Lake View, because Lake View rooms are not preferred rooms. If you want lake view, book a standard.

I would suggest going to the dollar store and picking up some disposable coffee cups. I buy them at my local dollar tree. There are cups in the set with lids. Then you can just get hot water for your tea at the drink station.
I did this 2 weeks ago. Bought those paper coffee cups with lids at Walmart and it was so easy to just walk to the bus with my tea. Almost always finished and threw the cup away with a minute to spare before we whisked off to the parks!! So easy.

I was going to suggest the same thing! Just stick an old mug in your bag (or buy a nice new one for a souvenir) because it would melt a Styrofoam one! It will heat water to boiling pretty quickly and your tea could be brewing while you get dressed, super easy! You'll usually find them in the travel section and they look like this

I use one of these at any hotel that doesn't have a microwave in the room. You can't make hot water in a coffee maker without it tasting like coffee, and not all hotels have a way to get hot water outside of going into a restaurant. I have one of those glass Disney mugs you can have your name engraved on, and that goes with me as well (and a spoon for stirring). I have to have my tea first thing or I have zero energy! My mug, spoon, teabags, sugar and immersion heater will all be going with me to Pop next month (along with some bottled water to make the tea taste its best).

I learned the hard way that it's a good idea to have a way to create a cup of tea in the room. I was staying at WL several years ago and got the flu (the fever and chills variety) and couldn't leave the room for several days. It was a solo trip, so no one to send for food or drink and I wanted a hot drink so bad I was reduced to drinking warm tap water (disgusting, by the way). I bought the immersion heater before my next vacation, and it has come in handy so many times.

Totally random question .. DD and I recently stayed at POP Century for our girls trip. We are finalizing our Christmas plans which include two nights at Disney after a RCCL cruise.

While there in October we both died laughing when DD crashed out in her double bed only to discover that every time she rolled over it made a horrible squeak .. DH will not be pleased
with "noisy" beds as he likes to toss and turn a LOT when sleeping and the slightest sounds wake him up. Did we just luck out and get an "old" bed that liked to make noise or is that the
norm there at POP?

It's definitely not the norm.

We're here now and our beds make normal noises, nothing overly squeaky. DS1 is a light sleeper so a squeaky bed would be terrible for us!

BTW, I will confirm what others have already said, they have mugs here both with and without handles.

I think it was a random squeak We've stayed in 4 different rooms and never had a squeaky bed.

Does anyone know why POP Century is not coming up on any of the web hotel sites (Orbitz, hotel.com etc)? Last year we booked with them and got a great rate. I am only finding a rate available thru Disney's main website.

They may have already sold their inventory of Pop rooms.

Good news re: mugs
Just saw on the Disney Food Blog, mugs with handles making way back to resorts. Currently spotted at capt cooks (poly) but will be heading to all resorts.

I've seen reports of them popping up at numerous resorts in the last week or so. I think it's safe to say they're back. And it seemed like most people reported that the resorts had *both* types of mugs. I don't know if that's the intention going forward or if it's just until the inventory of no handle mugs is depleted.

They haven't loaded 2017 inventory yet. I have been checking daily since the 2017 rates came out last summer. I read on another site that they are still negotiating their 2017 contract (Orbitz and Hotels.com are both owned by Expedia, who also hasn't loaded 2017 yet). Not sure what's holding things up, but I keep trying.

We are going to be staying at Pop 11/24/16 - 12/1/16 and received a letter some time ago letting us know the Computer Pool would be closed for refurbishment. We don't use that pool, so it's fine. But I just received an email that the Hippy Dippy Pool will be closed and we could instead use the Bowling or Computer Pool. This is a much bigger deal for us. Does anyone know what's going on?

The website shows that the Computer Pool is closed October 2016 thru January 2017. I called and the CM said the Hippy Dippy Pool refurbishment doesn't start until mid-January 2017, but I don't trust phone CMs to have accurate information. If the Hippy Dippy pool is closed, we'll have to stay somewhere else, even offsite if we can't get another Disney room. Is there a number I can call to talk to Pop directly?

I just got the same message about the Hippy Dippy pool.

I just got it as well. My dates are mid-December. I thought it was odd that no dates were mentioned in the email. Perhaps the computer pool is ahead of schedule and they plan to start the hippy pool as soon as the computer pool reopens.
