Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

On the positive side, the resort will be slightly less full due to some of the rooms being taken out of circulation for the refurb. Might not be all that noticeable, but if 100 rooms are out of commission, that would mean fewer people in the food court, fewer on the bus, etc...

Excellent way to look at it!

I received a call from a Disney representative apologising for the refurbishments. All they can do is change your reservation for a Resort in the same room price range (All Star Resorts). No compensation or other gratuities.

With the recently announced refurbishments starting in October, I'm looking for opinions and/or experiences from people that have stayed at other resorts during refurbs. We start our week-long trip in the middle of October; about the same time the construction will begin.

I stayed at Pop in September 2010 during the major room renovation project that year. I was in building 3 / 50's, which had been renovated, and most or all of building 1 was being renovated during the week I was there. The main activity I observed, during the day, was the swarm of workers with new bedding, etc., working really quickly on all the rooms all at once. I found it fascinating. And, unobtrusive really.

I'm going in December. We don't plan on swimming so I'm not worried about the one pool being closed. I'm slightly worried about the noise because my kids may need a mid-day nap back at the resort. Guess I'll just have to think about it and figure out if we want to just stay with POP or switch.
Possible solution is those soft squishy ear plugs. In fact i think i am going to bring some with me for my December stay, but to drown out the noise at night! :)

I wonder if they are sending out refurb e-mails chronologically? I have a stay booked in mid-November and have not received anything yet. It's a solo stay so I don't think it would bother me. Interesting masmixer reported getting a phone call!

Do you think we will be getting any sort of timeline as to when certain rooms/sections are being done?
We are going in January and I am not going to switch resorts, but I do use touring plans to request a specific room. I WANT room 5118 (60's standard lake facing). But as time gets closer it would be nice to know what they are working on when so I can request a specific room/area.

So what if I don't mind some noise from refurbishments? The email does say the hours of work are limited and not in the middle of the night. We are the type to hit the parks rope drop til they kick us out so its of little to no concern. But I would like to request a refurbished room. Anyone know from past experience with other refurbishments if they allow that if some rooms are ready? And how do you go about requesting that?

I don't mind the refurb, we decided in Dec to stay here for wine & dine since we knew it would be a host resort before they opened it to all resorts. I also don't mine that at the moment we are paying rack rate because there are no discounts for our dates. However, with the refurb, it would be nice for them to put out a discount that will actually work, especially since I imagine there will be people that move resorts or don't book Pop because of it. I'm sure this isn't something they do or take into consideration though.

haven't gotten any emails about the referb and we will be there in Dec....without looking through pages and pages, would anyone happen to know the cost to add DDP from free QS? tryingto see if it really would make any $ sense for us to do that. I already have our dining reservations for the most part....sat and figured out what we would "normally" order and looked at the prices andtook off Via Napoli(we always pay oop for that)

I called yesterday and was told I can add my son to our rooms and all it will cost us is the park tickets-because of his age-19 he is an adult as is his sister so I can have 2 adults in each room and not have the costs change:)plus we will be able to have magical express pick him up when his flight gets in from Puerto Rico(as long as I can get the college to have his return flight to Orlando and not Iowa). I would say that would be my xmas wish/bit of pixie dust....almost the whole family on xmas vacation

So for us we really struggled with Dining reservations and getting the ones we wanted time wise. Now we had made a reservation and there was an error, it booked for 2 people instead of the 3 we booked. We took a screen shot and they sorted it out within 24 hours. (gotta love Disney customer service!) I guess it depends on your dining reservation and where it is a what time and if they have another reservation on that day at that time. As far as the free dining plan, if he isn't on the reservation then it is unlikely he will get the free QS meal plan as that deal has expired (I believe, it wasn't on there last week). My suggestion would be to call Disney Customer service ASAP and speak with them so they can make notes on your reservation once you confirm he is coming you can call back or maybe they can direct you to another deal for just him. :)

called yesterday and had Disney Dining help me....we were able to add one person to all but one reservation...we have a lunch reservation at BOG for 4 and cant add 1 so she recommended that we keep it the way it is and see-that being a lunch and that it is a restaurant that has "walk in" for lunch that we may be able to just have him with us. If not he is ok....we will be able to add him to the room resi ad should only add the cost of tickets:)

That's great that you could add him to all of your reservations! Just be aware that BOG is not *really* a walk-in for lunch. There are many reports of them not allowing "walk ups". Being allowed to add an additional person when you actually check-in has seemed to be hit or miss. I can tell you that when we were there for lunch 3 weeks ago, the check-in CM for some reason thought we were a party of 10 (I think she thought the 2 people behind us were with our party) but we only had an ADR for 8. She nicely said that they weren't able to add any extra guests to ADRs. I told her we were a party of 8 and I had an ADR for 8. She apologized and sent us through. It turned out that the party of 2 behind us didn't have a ADR (I think they were trying to sneak in with us since we were a large group) and she told them that they were not admitting walk-ups that the restaurant was booked to capacity. If I was you, I would keep trying to get an ADR for 1 that is close to your ADR time just to be safe. It could be off as much as 10-15 minutes either way and you would still probably be ok (especially if you explained your situation at check-in). And don't give up finding an ADR -- people cancel all the time. We actually had ADRs for lunch on 2 different days and we ended up cancelling (a party of 8) the day before one of our ADRs because it was just going to be too big of a time suck to have lunch there that day as our plans had changed and we weren't going to be in MK that afternoon.

I would use touring plans. You can put in your party size and desired time or meal and it will alert you when it opens. I have used them this trip to get my BOG as there was no availability when we booked the trip. They don't book it, but they can text you and then click the link and goes to reservations. God luck.

Pop question???
Are preferred rooms only available in 50/60/70 rooms?

These are the only rooms available for when we are going. Wondering where we will end up.

If you go to post #2 of this thread and scroll down to the heading "Room Categories and Rates" you'll see a link to a map that will indicate where the different levels of preferred rooms are located throughout the resort.

You could also see if you can book a reservation for 1 at the same time as your one for 4. Since there is no assigned seating, you can always meet up inside and sit together.
