Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

I received that mail, too. Any chance I can ask for an upgrade and switch to another resort for free? Very annoying...they didn't warn during the booking process.

Switching to another value would probably be less money. I don't think they would upgrade to mod or deluxe (or AOA value plus in my mind) especially if rooms are available at other value resorts.

Being more than two months out, I feel that gives most people adequate time to switch if they choose and shouldn't be on Disney's dime. IMO

Do you think they will start with the 80s and 90s room since they will be working on the computer pool?

I haven't gotten an email for January 2017 yet... we'll see! Maybe they will get it done quickly...

It is currently on their site and pops up before you even book. I doubt they will be done by January if they are stating it will last through Dec 2017

My room is already booked - that's why I was expecting an email, which I've yet to receive... I am just hoping they will be done with part of it, or have part of it untouched yet... Either way

You will probably get one but they may come in waves based on booking dates. Either way, I think you are right. Some will be finished, so you may get a refurbed room. My interpretation is they would just shut down certain areas and work until that area is complete. I would assume something would be done by January. :)

I called and the rep I spoke to wasn't aware of the refurbishments. She put me on hold, saying she was calling the resort for info (whether it was the resort or someone else, I have no clue). She came back, saying that the reno was just announced today, and basically said what we already know, they are doing a complete refurb of the resort, starting w/the rooms. When I expressed concern about the noise/disruption, she said they would not put people in a building that currently was under construction, but I'm not sure if I believe that or not.

I don't know if we should switch or not and my trip starts just 3 days after construction begins (she said it was to begin on 10/15). Especially since we reserved a preferred room, and they are outright saying they can't guarantee any type of building requests, it seems like a crapshoot.

Unfortunately, the other resort I'd really like to stay at, POFQ, is also under refurbishment! IDK, maybe ASMovies? Ugh!!!
There are almost 2000 rooms at Pop. If you definitely want to be away from the refurbishment noise I would think they would be able to accommodate this request.

There are preferred rooms in many of the different buildings. I don't believe they are located all in one location. I would think you'll be just fine. A whole lot would have to happen for you to hear refurbishment noise, especially as the hours are during prime park hours.

I will be going in December with DS20 did not get email, this will be our first time staying at POP. Planning on visiting the resort when I go in September with DH.

a few quick questions, its been a few trips since we stayed at POP and that was an interesting stay with numerous issues. this trip we have book 2 rooms for the 4 of us and have just resently found out that our DS(20yrs) may be able to fly into Orlando the day we are scheduled to check into Disney. this makes me happy but now I have questions....if he is able, will he be able to use the magical express to get from the airport to POP(we are driving in so we don't need it an dwill be in Orlando before him). If we are able to work this out, will I be able to add him to our reservation-and will he get the free dining that we have with our reservations already? and how hard is it to add one person to your already made dining reservations? I wont know if he is able to actually fly in to Orlando until he starts class or talks with the college coaches...hoping it all works out:)

So for us we really struggled with Dining reservations and getting the ones we wanted time wise. Now we had made a reservation and there was an error, it booked for 2 people instead of the 3 we booked. We took a screen shot and they sorted it out within 24 hours. (gotta love Disney customer service!) I guess it depends on your dining reservation and where it is a what time and if they have another reservation on that day at that time. As far as the free dining plan, if he isn't on the reservation then it is unlikely he will get the free QS meal plan as that deal has expired (I believe, it wasn't on there last week). My suggestion would be to call Disney Customer service ASAP and speak with them so they can make notes on your reservation once you confirm he is coming you can call back or maybe they can direct you to another deal for just him. :)

Just a question about the menu at the restaurant. Have been looking is anybody aware if they still serve fries or not. It doesn't appear to be listed. If it doesn't that is a huge bummer. Not many of the quick service places do at any of the hotels anymore it seems.

You're right that fries are not listed specifically but many items note that they come with '2 sides'. I cannot find anywhere what those side options are. I am sure that fries are one of those options, they are just not spelled out on the menu. Wish the sides were identified thought as it would make things easier.

I saw a pic from a week or so ago that included fries. I think that many places don't have them separately listed on the menu, but I have seen very few places that do not serve them at all. Fries are cheaper than most sides and people expect to be able to get them. I would not expect them to go away, instead they are just not listed.

In April we ordered a hamburger and the pulled pork sandwich both of which were served with 2 sides. The choices were fries, coleslaw, and pasta salad. The person in front of me actually got double fries.

Thank you. All Ears had a list of sides and Fries wasn't on it.

Thank you. That is very helpful. It was something we had been wondering since the menu update.

With the recently announced refurbishments starting in October, I'm looking for opinions and/or experiences from people that have stayed at other resorts during refurbs. We start our week-long trip in the middle of October; about the same time the construction will begin. :headache:

On the positive side, the resort will be slightly less full due to some of the rooms being taken out of circulation for the refurb. Might not be all that noticeable, but if 100 rooms are out of commission, that would mean fewer people in the food court, fewer on the bus, etc...

Thats what I was thinking. If the 90's are being refurbed ask to be in the 50's.

I'm going in December. We don't plan on swimming so I'm not worried about the one pool being closed. I'm slightly worried about the noise because my kids may need a mid-day nap back at the resort. Guess I'll just have to think about it and figure out if we want to just stay with POP or switch.
