Interesting. I don’t do online check-in so never saw that. I just checked my email confirmation from when I booked & it says check-in is generally at 3 or 4. I assume the 4 applies to DVC rooms.

Actually, I stand corrected. It technically says "Begins at 3pm", not "Starts", but the meaning is the same. Sorry about the mistake, though!

Disagree. I have never read “starts at 3 either”. I’ve read check in is at 3. Guests have to check out by 11 & a lot do earlier. If they can’t turn the rooms around in time, then they’re under staffed.

In an ideal world that would be the case, but in reality it’s not. The POP has 2,880 rooms and regularly runs near max capacity. Now of course they never have to deal that amount of rooms, but still they are dealing with hundreds of rooms a day and some days more.

The time Pop misplaced my luggage, they had a thousand rooms turn over that one day.

I wonder that as well. I imagine the cleaning between guests takes longer now on the whole if opting out of Mousekeeping is even relatively popular.

Why would it take longer? I can't imagine that not cleaning a room every single day is going to cause so much more mess that it would take a significant amount of time to clean. Definitely not more time than is saved by the people opting out.

Maybe someone can help me. I’m trying to book a room for 1 night to add to a package I have. (The package rate isn’t available) I want to try to stay at POP since that’s where I’m staying. If I put in March 12-15 it’s showing available. If I only put in March 15 it’s showing not available. I only need March 15. I remember this being talked about awhile ago somewhere. Can someone tell me if there is a trick?

This happened to me on our Labor Day trip. Nothing available at POP for the one night I wanted to add, but that night was available if it was in a longer stretch. I tried calling to see if they could do something, but it was the same for the Disney phone guy. So, I just got a night at All Star Sports. However, I kept searching and closer to our trip, the single day showed available at POP so I changed the All Star night to POP. It was actually cheaper for that night than what I had been charged for the night at AS sports.
I think they have algorithms to try to encourage people to make longer reservations because they don't want "orphan" nights left over. But maybe when it gets within a certain timeframe, they just open up any available rooms?? Not sure, but it's worth it to keep checking, it may still become available.

This past September I wanted to add a night but similar to @mamamelody2’s experience, POP was fully booked even when I called in. I booked a night at All Star Movies.

When we checked in at Pop I asked about transferring our luggage to ASMo for our final night and the CM asked if I’d like a room at Pop instead if there was one available.

I was able to stay at Pop, didn’t even have to change rooms (but was fully aware I might have to) and, only paid the price of the ASMo room which was about $30 less than Pop would have charged.

I’ll take it!

When guests have been in a room without Mousekeeping during their stay, there is often additional garbage, dirtier floors, sinks, tubs, etc. It will take longer to clean. Possibly not a lot longer but some extra time would be required I’m sure. I know my house is faster to clean if I clean it more often.

I get that it may need slightly more time but most people don't stay long enough to make that much of a difference. The floors, tubs, sinks, toilets, etc are done anyway. I don't think it would take longer to do those at the end of a stay then it would to do all the rooms of the people who opt out of mousekeeping.

Perhaps they would change that & a lot of other things if guests held them to a higher standard. To be fair, I have never had a problem with my room being ready. But, since my reservation confirmation DOES actually say that check-in as at 3 & the average guest is not likely to be up-to-date on the industry “standard”, most ppl would expect their room to be ready by 3.

Exactly what @scrappinginontario said. I’m sure MouseKeepers have a list of cleaning tasks to do whenever they turn over rooms and it would not surprise me if that list is longer for rooms people oped out of. Probably not be a significant amount of time and obviously nowhere near the time saved from not cleaning for x number of days, but more time nonetheless.

Also, I think most of us would be surprised how much abuse some visiter put the room thru. If I remember correctly, there were more than a few posts in this thread about things broken in the newly renovated rooms within a matter of weeks/months. I truly have no idea how people can be that messy/destructive, but some can be.

if you think about it, would you want to stay in a room that only had a normal daily cleaning before you check? Now imagine how you would like staying in a room that only had the equivalent of trash & towel service but that a housekeeper had not set foot in the entire time the previous guest was in it?

lots of UK guests stay for two weeks. I've stayed in a variety of hotels over a week at a time. Heck, legally, a hotel room can be rented for as long as 30 nights (before it becomes a tenancy instead of a hotel stay).

Not if the previous guest took advantage of the No Housekeeping offer. They weren't cleaned at all.

There are not enough people who want to clean up after many others that Disney could possibly hire enough housekeepers to clean (using Pop as an example and assuming the same number of rooms turn over every day) 400+ rooms in four hours. But if you want guests to so dramatically exceed the normal expectation of check-in starting at 3, the hotel should be able to expect every. single. arriving. guest. to be at the counter exactly at 3.

And nobody can check in before 3.

Are you sure the word at is in there? Or does it actually say "Check in 3 PM"?

Hippy Dippy starts Jan 13 and should be done by the end of March, I think. Of course, delays are always possible with any refurb.

You might be mixing up the HD refurb and the one for the Big Blue Pool at AoA. The BBP will be refurbed this fall.

Good morning I have a couple questions about the magical express to Pop Century. Our flight arrives at 7:30pm and I understand we just get on the magical express and the luggage will be delivered to the room later that night. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get the suitcases delivered? I have young children and don’t really want them waking up the kids up at 11pm at night to drop off the bags. Can we request to have them held somewhere until the next morning? Also just to confirm do we have to prebook the magical express? Or do we just show up?
