Disney's POP CENTURY RESORT Information & Questions

The bar inside the food court is gone. Goofy's Pop Jets are gone. Mom's Night Out Dinners are gone. They have a lot more bookable categories than they used to have. The frozen Coke machines are gone, replaced by iced tea. The view across Hourglass Lake is the hideous Art of Animation Resort. Pool fencing is new, I'm not sure if they're all fenced in yet. The price of everything has far outpaced inflation. Other than that it's all the same.

From reports, the bus screens are there, but I'm not sure if they're working yet. The view of AofA from Pop looks great IMO. Much better than the half built abandoned buildings from before. You can also watch the HS fireworks from the bridge and visit AofA to eat, shop and take the buses. :thumbsup2

Thank you both! I appreciate the news. Its been a long time since I've been at POP, and I'm super excited! I'll definitely take the HS fireworks tip into consideration! I hope the bus screens are working, because that would be amazing!

Questions:
If I'm returning a car to DTD around noon and want to drop off bags (either in room or at bag drop) how much time should I give myself. I'll have two bags (one large, one carryon).
Do you folks think 30 minutes is enough? I've paid for a preferred room, so I know I'll be close to the main building. Yes, I plan on using on-line check in.
Thanks again for all the answers.
109 days until I'm home at POP for my 30th trip to WDW.

First post here... My fiance and I just returned home from our first stay at Pop. I read these boards a lot before going and just wanted to share a few things. When we arrived we went to the gift shop and the food court area to look for a case of water because the Florida water does not sit well with me. We weren't able to find a case of water so we asked if they sold them there and after a little hesitation from the person I was told no they did not have cases of water for sale. We walked to AoA and they had a case of 24 12 oz waters for sale for $17.00. I passed and ended up just getting free cups of water at the parks and it was hit or miss whether it was good water or water that taste like it came from the drinking fountains. It worked out well for us though. I guess I was just frustrated because I had read here a few times that they sold cases of water for $7... Which we did find at Wilderness Lodge when were were checking out that resort (which I find odd that the same case of water would cost $17 at AoA and $7 at Wilderness?!?!).

On a different note... We requested a box fan to drown out sound and when we were at the park a box fan was dropped off.... with a roll away bed which was not requested. So they do have roll away beds not sure how many or if they are always available but we were given on and didn't even ask for it! We called and they came and picked it up but for people who were asking they must be available since we did get one.

This is getting wordy... but overall it was a good stay. We are use to Deluxe resorts because my fiance had vacation club that we just sold so it was a different type of stay for us but we knew going in it would be different.
Unfortunately you asked a misinformed CM. You can buy a case of water at POP. They just don't put themout or advertise them. If a CM says no, ask for a food court mgr. They can help you. Kevin from Puerto Rico is super helpful.

Its been I think 9 years?? since I've been to the Pop, cast member booking our trip told us that they had the free QS dining just opened when we were in process (we were going to ASMu). Has anything really changed since then? I doubt it. Also, this might be in some post that I haven't seen, but does POP have the resort bus schedule screen? I know the All Stars do, but I'm not sure on the POP.
The bus boards still were nonfunctional late last week. No one seems to know when they will be working. And the CM that they normally had there keeping track of the buses, we only saw one once out of the ten days we were there.

We will be at POP in 123 days! We are booked in a preferred room. What building(s)can we be assigned ? What type of request should I make when it's time for online check in? It is just my husband and I. I'm super excited for this trip.

Are you talking about dropping bags at luggage service for storage while returning the car?
Or are you checking the large bag at resort airline check-in? And then leaving the carry-on with luggage assistance?
I have never needed more than 5 to 10ish minutes to leave something with luggage assistance. Picking up from luggage assistance could take longer if they have a lot of people show up at the same time but that is rare for even pick up to take more than 15 minutes.
If you are checking your large bag with resort airline checkin (RAC), That can vary dramatically. Sometimes I have walked right up (my February 2016 trip) & other times I have had to wait because there was a line.
Overall, I think you should be fine with 30 minutes though with just 2 bags, even going to two locations especially since you don't need help getting the luggage there. HTH

Can anyone provide some advice for making a room request? The most important request is a king bed. We booked a preferred room but not pool view and would like to be as close as possible to food court. DH has mobility issues and he will have a scooter for the parks but is able to manage (and enjoys) a short walk to get his coffee.

Call the main reservation line and add a request of a king bed to your reservation. This can be done anytime from the day you book up until 4-5 days prior to your arrival.

Thanks for the answers! One more question.. do they have a safety deposit box at the check in desk for storage of valuables when you can't get in your room? Only going off of my stays in Disneyland here so no idea!

Thank you so much for this thread! My daughter and I have a girls' trip this fall. It will be our first stay at Pop. This thread is such a wealth of info!

This has probably already been covered. I was searching through the thread. When we stayed at AoA, I made my special request during on-line check-in. Is there a better way to do it? We have reserved a preferred room. Also, it is my daughter's 20th birthday. Does adding a special occasion make a difference? Thanks!

Can you give us some kind of idea of what it is you need stored? I will better be able to help if I know what you are trying to store.

I put my request on my original ressie. And lots of people are celebrating things. So, no stating you are celebrating something doesn't usually make a difference.

We are staying at Pop in 15 days!! But just for one night before heading to SSR. I'm so confused on how the luggage transfer works. Do they take it to our new room or do I have to pick it up from the lobby? We are doing DS and then DHS around 3-4. Will it be there before 4? I don't want to have to get my luggage from the lobby after 10 at night and then treck back to the room. SSR is huge and who knows where we all be. Will it be easier to just take a cab over in the morning and have bell services hold it until our room is ready? And then walk to DS? Anyone know about how much a cab is from Pop to SSR? Thanks!

You have the option of taking an Uber (super inexpensive) or taxi with your luggage to SSR, then drop it off with bell services there to hold (since it's DVC odds are your room may not likely be ready yet). Then when you get back, retrieve it yourself to take to the room. At least that way you know where it is at all times, and you are in control of when you get it! That's what we did last trip - we were going from 2 nights at Pop to a week at AKL Kidani. We took an Uber XL there with all our stuff (took the XL since we also had a wheelchair). We ended up hanging out there and having lunch waiting for a room to open up.

I'm hoping my room is ready, but if it isn't I'll be leaving both bags with luggage assistance.

.
When you arrive, ask for the birthday button for her to wear during her trip. She will definitely get many well wishes around the parks. If you have meals planned, you can add the birthday to those, and sometimes they do something special, it is hit or miss. You will sometimes get a cupcake or dessert, and they may sing or give a card(at character meals) . It depends on the place and your server, but it's a nice surprise if they do!
