My kids wouldn't swim in the hotel pool, but they went down the slide a couple times and hopped in the hot tub. The hotel manager confirmed that Disney has made a corporate decision to turn the heat down on the pools a "couple" degrees for "environmental reasons" (that is also why I have turned my heat down at home, to heck with the cost I'm trying to save the environment). The water was noticeably colder than our Feb. trip last year to the Boardwalk, where the kids swam all day and the pool was full of swimmers.

I don't know if I'll go to Disney in the winter months again if the kids can't swim. That's half the fun of the whole trip. Apparently, it's not a popular decision, so let your voice be heard if this is a problem for your family as well.

Yeah environmental reasons, I believe that. :rolleyes1 Someone figured they could save a lot of money. I am sure it does. However it could cost them if people can not swim. :furious:

I guess I should have posted this on the Resorts Board, but yeah, I'm sure they are out to save a buck.

We were at POR in late Nov/early Dec. It was warm enough to swim, but the water in one of the quiet pools was freezing. It didn't make for a fun time in the pool. I wasn't able to warm up at all, even after being in the water for 20 mins. The main pool was a bit better, but still colder than it should be.

When I complained, the manager gave us a $50 dining credit, which I was grateful for, but I would rather have had a warm pool. If they say the pools are heated, they should be heated.

I went swimming at the Beach Club last week and frooze!

It was a nice day (about 75) and I even had the top of my wet-suit from my dive gear.

I've been home all this week with a bad cold.

Thanks Disney for saving a few bucks!

(PS I later found that the quite pool was very warm and well heated.
But who wants a standard pool when you pay the big bucks for the BIG POOL  )
