Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Hi all :yay:

New to the Dis. We have our first stay at the Poly in 60 days for a 14 night stay. We've previously stayed at the beach club but it wasn't available for our stay length, just odd nights. We are staying in a DVC studio.

I just have a couple of queries, if anyone can help:

1) I have seen mention of tired rooms; is this just standard rooms as I thought DVC studios were recently refurb'd?

2) We have an early morning ADR at Trails End to explore FW. I was thinking the easiest way was resort monorail to contemporary and boat from there or boat/monorail to MK then boat to FW. MK does not open until 9am that day, but our ADR is 8; would either of those methods be available at that time or are we better off just catching an Uber to FW?

3) We love Disney Springs, is the transfer long from the Poly and is the bus service shared?

Thanks in advance :flower3:

Boats will be running and your best option as the boat will put you close to the restaurant. If you bus or drive there, you'll need to use FW's internal bus system once there.

We stayed in May and I hope this helps with our experience:

1) The DVC studio was wonderful. Nice furnishings and the bathrooms were great for a young family of 5. The location of Tokelau was amazing. Easy access to everything.

2) I can't help with this one as we did not travel to FW during our stay.

3) We used our last day for Disney Springs with a 6:30 flight out of Orlando. Plenty of time, right? Well, the bus service was something that left a little to be desired. We ended up taking a cab to DS due to the bus being delayed and was not going to arrive via the posted sign for over 45 minutes. So the cab to DS was simple and quick. On the return trip, waited about 45 minutes for a bus to Poly from DS. At this point we were cutting it pretty close to our Magical Express time but we thought we were ok. But then, the bus decided to stop at Typhoon Lagoon. Waited at the bus area for about 5 minutes (nobody on or off) then off to the Poly. Unfortunately, our Magical Express pulled away as we were getting our luggage from the bell station. Took a cab to the airport and off we went.

If I would have one recommendation for improving the Poly experience, it would have been the buses to DS, AK and Disney Studios. However, we were there during the low season (May) so i believe the buses were scaled back accordingly.

Have a great trip.

I know it will vary, but can anyone give estimates of about how long it takes to get to/from AK and HS by bus?

I geek out on my Disney trips and enter a lot of info into to my phone Notes.
Last July from the Polynesian (various days):

4:52p- on bus to AK
Stopped at GF first
AK at 5:12p

On bus to DHS- 9:05a
Left GF 9:11a
Arrived DHS 9:24a

4:15- left room
4:22- on bus to AK (GF-BB-AK)
4:42- arrived AK

AK Bus stop at 7:33p
Departed 7:44p
Arrived Polynesian 8:00p

So, I'd say usually right around 20 minutes to those parks.

We stayed in a standard room last August, I didn't find it tired. I think they were refurbed 2 yrs ago? The DVC more recent.

We had a morning (not early) ADR at Trails End and took the monorail to MK, then boat to FW. After breakfast we explored the nearby resort shop, horse barns (they were getting Cinderellas carriage ready) and pony pens.
Then we walked along the trail (now closed) to WL. The paved path may still be open. Not sure. But you can take the boat from FW to WL.
Once we finished walking around WL we took the boat to CR for more exploration, then hopped on the monorail back to Poly.

The bus to Disney Springs seems to be universally bad no matter what resort your at. Don't do it your leaving day!!!
We usually have a 3:30 or 4:00 DME pick up, so we tend to not go far and just go to MK when we're staying in the MK area.

The MK resorts do share bus service to the parks- DHS & AK. When we were at GF, we shared with either WL or CR, depending on route.

We have ate at Ohana 2 different times and thought it was really good but here lately I have been reading a lot of bad reviews. Is Ohana going down hill and not as good as it used to be?

By any chance do you remember about how much cab was from Poly to DS?

People are more likely to to stop and write a review for a bad experience and less likely to write about a good experience unless it was something out of the ordinary. So you may have many people who were happy with their O'Hana dinner on the same night that one person wrote a bad review. It's worrying when there are many, many bad reviews consistently.

We have been going to Ohanas for many years and have always had good meals. However, we have had really bad servers several times. One time we waited over a half hour for first food other than the bread to be brought out never received drink refills and took forever between courses and different meats to be served. Never received the shrimp at all. Entire meal took 3 hours! Thank goodness that experience only happened once.
Last year we ordered the "twilight feast". It was great although the meats were barely warm by the time food arrived. However I have seen several videos from Dis and utube of people ordering same "twilight feast" and receiving bread service and pog juice which we did not receive.

i am so excited for my first trip to the Poly., and I read tikiman's facebook page on the Poly. every day. For weeks, I have read that they turn off the water to certain long houses or turn off the electricity for the day in the afternoons. This really concerns me, since I feel that for the price I paid, I should be able to have air conditioning, or take a shower in my room in the afternoon! If they do happen to do this during my visit, am I entitled to ask for some form of compensation for the inconvenience, or is it just something that I have to deal with? I read that people were told to shower in the pool house. Anybody know? Keeping my fingers crossed for no issues!

It is a pain but at least you know from your research that it's a possibility.

Looks as though the hours (when they do it) are 11am-3pm, when they've determined the majority of people are out of their rooms.
I'm going in a few weeks and really hope to be able to shower and flush when I want/need to. Good luck!

Wait.... WHAT? That's insane! Does any one resort do this? I have NEVER heard of anything like this.
