The size of the sleeping area of the DVC studio is almost exactly the same as the regular rooms. The bathrooms take up more space in the room then when it was a regular room but the rooms the DVC studios were built into were longer than the other rooms so you end up with the same sleeping area. If you fit the mattresses in the older standard room and it was not in one of the DVC longhouses than you will fit it in the DVC room. If your room before was in Tahiti, Rapa Nui or Tokelau then you will have a smaller area now. It must be hard to find a room anywhere if each of you want to take a bed and you have 3 kids that need a place to sleep also.

It is hard, but the Poly standard rooms have been big enough to pull it off! I'd gladly sleep on the day bed and let two of the kids sleep together on the queen sleeper. Only problem is every time we have tried this they just have not been able to sleep together. They probably need to get just a touch older. At 3, they just aren't that cooperative when it comes to sleep. They need their own space.

We (myself, my husband and our 5yo little boy) will be staying at the Poly the end of Oct! I am so excited. We reserved a villa room with a standard view. My little guy loves trains and monorails. It would be awesome to have a view of the monorail. What building should I request? Any info greatly appreciated! :)

I would word yiur request "view of monorail" for the best chance.

I'm not sure any of the studio villas have especially good monorail views. Pago Pago 3rd floor is probably your best bet, from some rooms you can see the monorail over the parking lot.

Really? Not a good monorail view room? Can you suggest what other building might be a good option for a good general view? :)

Standard Villas are in Tokelau, Moorea and Pago Pago. None of these are that close to the monorail. Tokelau is fairly popular as a standard view, but doesn't have much of an angle towards the monorail.

Glad you have a good one. Ours is horrible. I'm sick over the money we spent to stay here to look at a hallway of another longhouse. (It was our choice but I didn't know standard included hallway view) We picked here for the tropical feel and relaxing we could do on the balcony. Not going to happen. After a 2 day trip here, it's pretty much killed any excitement I had.

I'm really sorry to hear that. :(

I feel very lucky. I requested Fiji, balcony and had my request met. I picked Fiji because I knew either side of the building had decent views for a standard (either the Marina/Pool or Luau Cova/Floridian)

Thanks for your response!
Tokelau...That's what i thought too after looking at map and then confirmed by pp link above. Now I'm wondering how i actually go about requesting. Didn't see any options besides floor height and elevator access on online check in. I've read you can fax resort, but wasn't sure how to locate #...or do you just ask when you check in. We did a room request at BWV but we had rented points, so the my contact at the rental company did it for us, Just wasn't sure what i needed to do.
Oh and obviously i don't know for sure, but on that site a pp listed it shows that 2nd and 3rd floors both have balconies. So, that's a plus i think :)
Hope you have a great trip!!
I have never done more than calling the main Disney number (now DVC since we're owners) and give them my requests. You are allowed up to 3 in order of your priority. Mine for this trip Tokelau, pool side, away from lake. I don't want to hear any boat horns. I've always gotten my #1 and sometimes 2 and 3!

6 Weeks from Friday I will be arriving in Florida for a split stay!!! 4 nights Universal and 4 nights at Disney World. Of course we are coming back to the Polynesian! A total of 12 people staying and we will have one DVC studio and the one and only King Kamehameha Suite!!!! Has anyone stayed in this suite? Would love to see some pics :-) Also, I will be posting photos/videos of the room once I return :-)
We'll be at the Poly with your big group! Let us know when you want us to join the party! Enjoy! Maybe someday we can try a suite or a bungalow!

We've stayed in a standard room the past two years -- two queen beds -- and it has worked out just fine for our family of five. DH and I both have our own bed, DD6 has the day bed and our twins, now 3, have slept on crib sized air mattresses on the floor. Being honest, there's no way DH and I could sleep in a queen bed together. Just not happening.

A friend has offered to sell us her DVC points for a price that would allow us to stay at Poly for much less than we'd pay for a room -- even with a 30% discount.

Would the same arrangement work in a standard DVC room? Could we fit the two crib sized air mattresses on the floor with the queen sleeper pulled out and the day bed thing pulled down?
It may be a little challenging for maneuvering but I think it's doable!

If I had to guess it would be Tuvalu, has some rooms that look directly at Fiji.
Yup. We requested Samoa but received Tuvalu. If we would look out our balcony we see straight down Figi hallway. Room was 3419. BUT MaryAnn from front desk received my concerns and we were moved to original request. I truly appreciate her help. If we were never in our room, I wouldn't have cared. However, littles nap and it's nice to sit out and relax. Now, we can!!! The room had some issues that I also reported. So, hopefully those get fixed. Very pleased with resort employees and overall experience. Even park has been met with great cast members.

I totally agree! We stayed in Fiji, Marina for the first time last summer and I could not get over how nice it was.
Of course, I'm sure they will bump the price to Marina view, so I hesitate to comment but I absolutely LOVED it!
Have a great time :)

This was our view:

Very similar view, probably a few rooms down! Simply gorgeous!

Hey, guys!

I thought I'd stop by today as the guys from the DISUnplugged team just released a really great video talking about all the reasons why they love Disney's Polynesian Village Resort! I hope you enjoy it!

Great video, thanks for sharing :flower3:.

I have some photos of the King K suite in my Tonga Album. I took a lot out because they were before it was renovated and I only got a few after the redesign. I took mostly video of it but you will find some of the bedroom and the living room/ Dining room. Ill have to tell you about the secret door.

For our resort day, I'd like to plan a surprise scavenger hunt for my family. Participating will be my DW, DS9 and DS3. We're staying at Poly so I'd like to keep it within Poly, GF, CR and WL (we'll take the boat over). I would love suggestions with an estimated difficulty rating included so I know who to assign them to (easy for DS3, medium for DS9, and difficult for my wife).

Ideas would be like
At Contemporary:
"Entrance to Chef Mickey" for my DS3 and
"Sign with 'California Grill' on it" for DS9. Etc.

Any suggestions for the POLY would be most welcomed.

Tikiman, I'm sure you have some great ones!

Also, my DW and DS9 love looking for hidden Mickeys so those are welcome also.

Thanks!

Sounds like a lot of fun for your family, @Mikeb1892
Photobucket isn't working right now (at least not for me!) so I cannot attach my photos but

Polynesian: Aloha sign (you will see when exiting monorail and walking into GCH)
Large tiki statue outside, behind Fiji and on the way toward Luau(of course there is one inside the lobby, too)
Hidden Mickey in the bamboo décor/artwork on the East (?) staircase (back, right if you're walking into lobby front entrance)

GF: giant bird cage in the lobby (good one for your little girl)
Various characters in the marble floor

CR: the famous "5-legged goat" in the mural on the concourse

The various colored monorails at all three resorts :)

There are so many things you can do. Have fun!
